Are you aware that we will be playing in the sixth (6th) tier of English football next season? You might have to get used to slightly different standards when it comes to things like squad depth.

We are in national league north, you can’t expect to have 2-3 players for every position who are capable of at least the division above and expect to keep them all happy.

Whitehall will start, lets say with Wilson and Roberts either side of him, say we did sign Lavery and he’s on the bench where does Elliott fit in?

Other seasons people have been worrying about lack of squad depth and now the same lot are worried now about having too much.

Is there a happy medium ?

Yeh, there is. 2 players for every position and a couple of young lads spare. If you face an injury/suspension crisis then utilise the loan market. We managed it for years

Don’t know where this concept has come from we need 30 players on the books- especially non league

We have 8 defenders – tick.
We have 13 MFs – too many.
We have 2 forwards – not enough! (Poulter not there??)

In which case, why offer Wilson a new contract? Why sign replacements before a firm decision is received?

Back on topic, has Lavery been signed yet? Someone on the Facebook group claimed he was being signed this week. He hasn’t been and neither has anyone else (not that we particularly need new players). What’s changed? Has something happened?

Ferrite ..Wilson and Butters both stated they wanted away then did a U turn .. AFTER new players had been signed and actually gave the reason for the change of heart …quote : due to the ambition being shown by the club re signings ..Wilson then accepted a contract , Butters not sure about him.

Can only guess what has happened to the 3 new faces reportedly arriving this week inc Lavery .. maybe some thing has changed who knows .

No, Butterfield was already under contract I think but signing replacements before he’s gone is perhaps not the way I would have done things, if there was any doubt.

For Wilson, I assume the club offered a contract so that they could claim a fee if he went elsewhere under a Bosman but again that must have been at least considered a possibility?

Surely you can see the difference between signing the forward we have on trial and signing someone like Lavery.

Say we did how would you propose we keep them happy? Whitehall, Lavery and Elliott will all expect to start.

sorry if posting on this thread and it topping the Bru page some members may have initially thought we had signed him …. in all this DH PS toy throwing i had forgot about the possible 3 new faces coming in , one being mooted to be Lavery .. must be about the money as just why any player would want to come to Scunny in the current climate is beyond me suppose it depends on promises made and which tale they are being told.

Good point about the signings though, particularly Lavery. The moral of the story is when someone posts on the Facebook group that a player is definitely being signed, take it with a large pinch of salt! Claimed by someone originally from Westcliff as it happens. Leave Ashby out of it. 🤣🤣
