Training under way and once again we have nothing even resembling a complete squad.
We have learned precisely nothing from the failures of recent seasons in spite of a certain promise which now looks to have just been the chairman’s little joke at fans’ expense!
The squad should be all but complete by this point with just one or two relatively minor tweaks being necessary.
We have set up for failure and consequently I have now reached a point where I have zero friends whatsoever who are buying season tickets.

I am guessing that there will be one or two through the door in the coming days but surely training should be commencing with all players part of what the manager is trying to achieve.

    Leftovers alert!

Squad finalised in January perhaps? I’ve given up hope of getting all the replacements we need before the first game but surely a GK and striker are a must in the next few days, we could probably raise a passable (just) 5-4-1 at the moment.

It’s all a ploy so baby Swann can get a game. That boy would struggle in life if he had to fend for himself.

Unless I’m missing someone it would seem the only two full-backs on the books are O’Malley and Rowe.

Whilst not the worst we’ve ever had they’re still youngsters and should one or both get injured then we’re screwed.

The same applies to other areas of the pitch too.

I would expect a minimum of six new faces and a couple of loans.

    Or am I being silly?

Cox happy with Hippo at LB last year and there’s sure to be a young CM who could play RB as we seem to try that every year. Don’t panic it’s all under control I’m sure.

Well, as people know, I don’t think Hippo is as poor as many make out – but I do know he’s no FB!

neither was George Hornshaw a right back, but he gave it a go but never got a chance in midfield.

Hippolyte is not a league standard footballer – far from it, like most of the squad.

How did they entice the two we signed? By saying we’ve got ‘f’ all chance of scoring. The worst forward line in the division and now no creativity in the squad with the exception of sicknote Hallam.

Believe me he is….he was shocking last season at both full back and wing. I can only recall him having 2 good games. 1st game he played when he filled in at LB and when he scored in an away game, can’t remember who it was against.

Apart from that he’s non league. You can tell we signed him from Yeovil. Put it that way !

Looking through the postings on the boards of other clubs you will see that even amongst the weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth of those with lowly league positions and ones who were relegated – there are still a few little lights in the darkness to be observed.
We do not. We have zilch.
Are we now the most toxic of all league clubs? Has the message run through the leagues like wildfire – “Sign for anybody you fancy – but don’t touch Scunny with a barge pole?”

BTW, I missed the chairman on RH. I must assume that he will have said at least a few things to lift the hearts of supporters.

Never got a chance in his position. Tom Pugh & Harry Jessop not really given a run of games yet Mr Cox opted to select regularly players that Jem Karacan said were not interested ! What an example of leadership !!

He didn’t say anything to lift supporters. Basically talked about Jem and that he should not have said those things, bascially blamed him for the run of bad results after he came out and derided some of his fellow pros for not trying – same as Cox did – blamed COVID – and more importantly continued the narrative of ‘my main aim is to keep the football club alive…’ The narrative being set for the club to be close to being non-existent – if we look at all those other clubs that went under and the narrative of the chairmen in charge at the time it looks to be following the same playbook – now this could be entirely coincidental and everything behind the scenes is far from desperate but we are where we are for a reason.

If debts are now removed by loss of the ground and with monies to come in from fans, club shop, adverts etc – if we only have a million pounds this year for use on the team, it rather begs a question.
Just how little is the controlling family putting into the club without strings attached?
Is it not pretty normal for wealthy club owners to donate lumps of cash to their clubs?
Perhaps those fans in the know, shareholders etc can calculate what this figure might be?

    Thanks for the figure.
Allowing for that and other income sources – it is still difficult to see why this year’s playing budget could not run to £1.5million.
Was just thinking back. Five weeks since the complement of players was going to be complete and here we are – two players in, a net seventeen shortfall.

I think we had expected at least seven or eight rather ordinary players in before training began. Even with those levels of hope, some of us were startlingly naive.

Starting a season’s preparation unprepared is, frankly, a disgrace.

Incidentally, our lowest ever attendance was: League: 1,106 v Bury – Division Four – May 4, 1982.
No real reason for including that stat. Just thought it might help to clarify the current situation a little.

So Karacan replaced, McGahey replaced and Clarke replaced. So just Howard, Eisa, Gillead, KVV, Olomola/Mooney and Brown to go. Looks like we’ve started from the back, GK excepted, now time to move further forward for players to win us games rather than stop us losing.

New keeper will be someone who is still without a club in the middle of October.

Which is when the club realise for the fourth year running that Watson is costing us points.

Odds that GK will share a surname with one of the backroom staff?

Josh? I’d have been happy with that last year not so sure now. Didn’t get a game for Barrow last year. He’d be a backup signing meaning we’d start with Watson again meaning we’d be buggered again.

He’s Barrow’s GK Coach, so unless we give Muzzer his p45 he won’t be coming here!
