Iron Aid 2024. £1000 to play in the game as a supporter 5 places available. £2500 to play in the Ex pro team 1 available.
We all appreciate the club have been down and needed money but excluding probably 99% of the average Joe supporter doesn’t go down well, the raffle fair enough.Would have been a nice gesture to maybe give back a bit to some of those supporter’s who have gone up and beyond S.Maw for one and the people who go down to the club every week and volunteer, no need for this mercenary money grabbing tactic.
I will go down and support the open day but they won’t get me paying the £5 to watch the prawn sandwich team.May 13, 2024 at 2:07 pm #285728If you’ve not skewed the facts I have to agree, even a fiver raffle draw or something

May 13, 2024 at 2:51 pm #285730I don’t think it’s ‘just plain wrong’. If there is the money there to be made from the people ‘who can afford it’ then make it / take it.
To expect the club to give places on this team away for free (when they could make much-needed cash) seems a bit entitled to me.
May 13, 2024 at 2:52 pm #285731I do agree with Fans 64, though. There could have been a general supporter raffle for a place on the team.
May 13, 2024 at 3:10 pm #285732My understanding is that there is a £10 raffle for a chance to make the squad. However 5 of the spots on the supporter’s team and 1 on the legends team can be bought for £1000 and £2500,respectively. If no-one goes for the guaranteed spots, they will go to those who went for the raffle. Either way, there should be several spots available to those participating in the raffle, even if the 6 guaranteed spots are taken up. If I am understanding correctly.

If that is the case then it all seems fair enough and no-one is really being excluded.

May 13, 2024 at 3:39 pm #285735Unless all the fans team are made up of good athletes then there will be plenty of scope for multiple substitutions throughout the game, squad of eighteen would be good and give the former pros something to think about.
May 13, 2024 at 3:44 pm #285737The web page could admittedly be clearer in specifying the number in the squad, but I see no reason to assume it’s anything but a normal 11-11 with subs. As 5 of the supporters, maximum, can be bought, that gives around 11 squad places (assuming 5 subs) to raffle winners, if it is 11-11. I certainly don’t think the club would advertise a raffle for something where all spaces could be just bought out for some 5 a side game.

May 13, 2024 at 3:44 pm #285738I did mention the raffle in my original post 64.

Legends game.
I read a few weeks ago that on average, we take about £50k in gate receipts for a game?
Once the seasons finished, how about a Legends fundraiser the week after the concluding league / play off game?
Iron Claret Legends v Iron Blue Legends
12 claret legends and 12 blue legends.
6 legends play the first half for each team and the second set of 6 legends play the second half for each team.10 fans play for the clarets and 10 fans play for the blues.
The first set of 5 fans play the first half for each team, the second set of 5 fans plays the second half for each team.Claret team = 6 legends & 5 fans
Blue team = 6 legends & 5 fansFor £500, twenty fans get to pull on the claret & blue of Scunthorpe United FC, get changed in the changing rooms with their heroes of yesteryear and to actually play 45 minutes in a game with and against their idols!
20 x £500 = £10,000
2,000 (attendance)(a guess) x £15 = £30,000
Program, food, drinks = £20k (guess)
Sponsorship (annual Legends Trophy) = £5k (another guess)Total revenue = £65k
If match day staff volunteered their labour, then this minimises the costs and maximises the funds raised.
Just an idea. It might be a load of tosh or it could be a good opportunity?
LT would be a perfect match-day commentator over the PA.
UTI.
Good to see that the owners / staff of the club read this forum.
A penny for your thoughts

Topics: 1I heard ( could be rumours) there will be a change of ownership Michelle selling share who will become co owners. Sounds promising and like much needed money coming in.
May 14, 2024 at 1:28 pm #285782It’s not that I don’t like the thread, it’s the fact that it is incorrect.
May 14, 2024 at 5:37 pm #285835Its just a title of a thread.
Read the post and you’ll find it fairly accurate. At least put up a view as to why it isn’t. -
