Interesting question, Deerey. A range of possibilities I think. Here’s a few that spring to my mind.
Some people have more time than others .. or have different priorities on how to use it.
Some people have strong thoughts and ideas but fewer outlets than others.
Some people like a ‘strong exchange of ideas/set to’.. but for many it feels like an unpleasant row brewing so stay away.
In some cases it looks like people become targeted not just for reprehensible ideas but for presenting a ‘non consensus’ perspective and/ or for their style of presentation.
I am sure there are more.

When there are so few posters on here, it is not surprising to have a majority who disagree with the posts of one or two on here.

Here’s an observation.

Perhaps it reflects the percentage of population who have views on current affairs.

In my experience the percentage of those who are ambivalent to politics, the environment, human rights etc is higher than those who take an active interest.

Which is why I still value the contributions of Bucks and BPG even if I oppose their views.

Here’s an observation, when some people don’t get their views universally excepted they can become paranoid and accuse others of targeting them. This is very sad for them but there are medical people who specialise in such matters so they can seek help if it really effects them badly. Happy New Year to one and all, may we all find peace.

I think it’s like the twitter pile on effect. Bucks is forthright in his views and many disagree. Those who disagree often signal their disagreement, which makes it look like people ganging up on him. Throw in the odd joke and mixed in comment which goes too far and it does appear like targeting.

It’s a fine line. We all know what people find irritating about him, and I have pointed it out through frustration and trying to make him see how his behaviours appear to others, from my point of view, in a futile attempt to create a reset. I won’t pretend that I haven’t ever overstepped the mark myself when responding. However, I try to be civil, at least before I get fed up of being misrepresented and made to be a stereotype. Also, when I have made small jokes referencing him it’s not really meant maliciously. I hope Bucks can see that, and I am more than happy to laugh at myself, so long as it’s not meant in spite.

I am aware that I am an opinionated bugger and like all opinionated buggers, we need our soapbox kicking from underneath our feet occasionally. :-)

You said ‘you are evil’ of him the other day. You personally blamed him for ambulance waiting times the other day. You don’t find that hypocritical? You are one of a number of moderators on here. You set a bad example in my opinion. You don’t appear to moderate, so much as make your own rules up as you go along. If you really wanted to do something about some supposed ‘feeding frenzy’ you should probably start by not blaming him personally for the NHS crisis and calling him ‘evil’. Get a grip or allow others to continue keeping things orderly and civilised. Just my opinion.

I’m going with the flow. I tried to keep it civil and nobody wanted it. .I am now going to continue say it as I see it.If somebbody talks down to me and puts words in my mouth I am going to be vicous towards them. I’ve tried the civil route ,it doesn’t work,it isn’t reciprocated.
the 1st ever response on the old official board to a post was somebody calling me a wanker,. I also never fore the 1st shots,look back .
Look how you reacted to my Tony Blair post,making your response personal about me and on this thread too . You cannot have it all ways.
He voted Tory, he continues to spew Tory lies so is completely and utterly to blame ,he’s part of it and I will respond to his posts supporting Tories in that way

Interesting perspectives. I’m enjoying reading this thread. Alot of sense there NI. Bucks seems to feature quite alot so I would add a further couple of comments. Firstly IA I don’t think he needs medical help. The old ‘keep taking the tablets’ approach can lighten the mood at times but if it becomes a ‘go to’ strategy it contributes to that dynamic which leads to fewer and fewer posters. Secondly, and probably more provocatively, I don’t think that Bucks does get a fair crack of the whip on many occasions. His style isn’t mine by any means. I think it takes a fair amount of goodwill and self discipline to explore a topic with someone who presents as he does, especially if we sit on the other side of the debate. I frequently see an over eagerness to dismiss what Bucks is saying just because it’s him and not on the merits of what he is offering. A bit more reflection on this and the umber of contributors might increase.

I see several examples of appeals to a better tone in the above thread. I find your ‘snap and snarl’ approach a real downer. It may relieve ..or even energise ..you but its not all about you. Its never to late to learn new skills ..how about having a go.

I don’t think you can blame people entirely for not going along with Bucks when you acknowledge his debating tactics are easily aggravating. Personally, I have got a bit fed up of being straw manned, especially when he accuses others of treating others badly. I know I have room to improve, but I try and reflect on how I have engaged and improve for next time in any discussion. I think Bucks should pay attention to your comments, but he’d probably see that as a personal attack.

Bucks ,from his worldview perspective,speaks how he sees it,even though he receives constant ad-hom attacks.
Some have a worldview perspective which they keep silent about. If they do creep out of their shell and are attacked for this worldview,they soon retreat into silence again and fall in line with the “world” yet again. Offending people with the Truth is off the agenda for some,unfortunately.( offending people with patronising,pompous,arrogant posts is not off the agenda,though!!)

JI I never mentioned Buck’s needing medical attention I only said people who think they are targeted because their views aren’t accepted by all could do so as a result of paranoia which can by helped by seeking medical attention. Buck’s was mentioned by you, my point was just a general one about people who believe they are targeted for some of their views on this forum. Do you understand that can be interpreted as ‘if I don’t like what someone says, I am going to be aggressive in reply?’. As a moderator, could I ask that you reflect on your thinking about this? That’s a polite way of putting it. Difficult not to get personal when one is remarking on anothers posts btw. We’re not robots.

Hi IA Not convinced that Bucks wasn’t in your sights when you made the quip. In fact I probably think your defence wasn’t altogether honest. Without trawling back I recall questions like ‘Are you Ill ?’ and other examples when you take a different position. My point to you was that it can be amusing but if you over use it then it becomes toxic to a discussion. That was my point.
