Money. Money, Money, so what if your not allowed to be gay in Saudi or women get treat shite, £700,000 a week is adequate for you to go against your principals, sure your 2 daughters will look up to you in years to come in more ways than one.

I admire your principled post Awaywego but when did the majority of people chasing money really give a thought to principles when large sums are offered. Money rules all and in football even more so, I’m guessing if you were a modern day professional player you would do the same.

No. Principles have cost me loads in my life it’s not all about money for alot of us, he could have said nothing about the LGBTQIA but no he opened is gob and professed to be behind them pardon the pun, now he’s being used by them, first day of signing and they turned is colour photo of himself wearing the rainbow armband into a black and white photo what a kick in the nuts for him obviously no control of his images.

Sadly this happens in all walks of life, especially with footballers.
Do you really think Ronaldo wants to be stuck in Arab land, or Messi In Miami?…. I do wonder if they think the amount they are earning reflects their ability on the pitch?
At least they are openly chasing the money but Henderson has displayed hypocrasy at its height, maybe someone should tell him there are no shops in heaven to spend all the money?… and Gerrards on the same bus as well.

It’s a travesty that someone with Jordan Henderson’s level of ability has earened £700,000 across his career nevermind in a week.

Doesn’t look good on Liverpool either, they’ve got £12 million from the Saudi club for him.

He’s from Sunderland. He probably thinks Saudi Arabia is next to South Shields!

(Probably have to live in the NE to get that one)

I agree wholeheartedly with your assesment of the greed of some premiership players, and from other leagues in Europe.
But do I detect a certain amount of glee that it is a Liverpool player?
There are much younger players willing to accept the Saudi Riyal.
The Saudis are infecting world sport and we’re just sitting back and accepting it. Don’t blame the players, especially at the autumn of their careers, blame the Saudis.

Can you name another British footballer playing in Saudi ? I can’t.
Henderson is English still had 2 years on his Liverpool contract and a good chance of playing at euro 24. Not exactly on the breadline.
He’s gone to a club with 5000 average attendance that are paying £700k a week. I really didn’t think he’d actually do it.

The last time I played in Saudi an Arab offered to buy my wife for five camels.

I normally smoke Marlboro but it seemed like a good deal!

It’s all very easy t have principles when it takes little effort. Yet, like Beckham before him with Qatar, Henderson will gladly drop all of it for money. I get the temptation with that amount of money, but it is disappointing to see him and others just take the money from a deplorable state who are investing heavily in a sportswashing campaign.

Our government trades with both Saudi Arabia and Qatar whilst protesting verbally to them about the same points and more discussed above, so we as a country employ double standards when it comes to points of principle. I don’t see why an individual should be pilloried over making money when our government sets a similar example.

I don’t think we should base our moralities on the realpolitik of government.

Exactly Siderite. A “government” hasn’t got any morals or principles. Individuals do.

I think we can all agree that when money is slapped down on the table then true colours are shown.

    Whose morals should we use?
IF we think all moral values are relative, how can you say one person is right and the other person is wrong?
I follow the moral values laid down in the Holy Bible.
But hey, make it up as you go along,it’s a free world, so they say.

It’s bad enough when you preach and judge on the other side. If you want to follow Christianity and ascribe your morality, do that. However, you are evidently ignorant of other moral systems and are unable to understand that it’s not ‘making it up as you go along’. I am also not the biggest fan of moral relativism taken to its extreme, but you do you with your prejudiced assumptions of others.

It’s not a question of whose morals or principles it’s the fact that you should at least stick by your own, I personally admire the Saudi stance on gays it’s their moral issue and similar to mine, but Jordan supposedly had his and he broke his, just like the gesture Kane (on behalf of the England team) were going to make at the world cup just the threat they might get kicked out was enough to capitulate.

Will that be an eye for an eye, or turn the other cheek? Make it up as you go along indeed.

    What? Imprisonment and torture?

Thank goodness we have moved on from criminalising people for who they are outside of the dinosaurs. Saudi is a disgusting regime for this, and so many other reasons.

In every corner of this green planet, people have committed atrocities. We have all been slavers and all been slaves at some point in time, and kings and queens followed by politicians have treated us all like shit.

The fundamentals in the Middle East are behind the times, but if we went back far enough in our history, we were just as bad, if not worse.

    Why is it?

Klopp has continuously picked him to play for Liverpool and not just that… CAPTAIN the side to every trophy possible AND regularly picked for England but DarrynStampGoalMachine doesn’t rate him so he doesn’t deserve it.

We used to imprison gay men until the late 60s,who are we as a society now to say Saudi is wrong, since then we’ve seen the age of consent come down from 21 to 18 to now 16 and legalized gay marriage where abouts will you be happy 10?
