He bleeds claret & blue and has done for decades. Before lockdown used to stand in the east stand tunnel, selling Half Time Draw tkts – made his commission and the rest went to the club.
Is it now true that he is no longer welcome to sell in the ground and that outside he has to be on the move because if he stopped he would incur the wrath of someone faceless individual ?
August 14, 2021 at 2:04 pm #211917What next? Iron Trust banned from selling badges no doubt, we’ve had Max Bell banned from going to the ground, no one from the Telegraph allowed in. Whatever his views a letter from lawyers banning you from the ground is quite frankly ridiculous.

Treated like they are disposable till there is no one left.

August 14, 2021 at 9:07 pm #211954Very sad to not see Staffy on the bus or at the match today. Whatever has gone on is wrong and John doesn’t deserve what is happening to him if true, A true iron legend up there with alot of the players,

Of course he wasn’t, he would have had to pay! Another freeloader off the books.

August 14, 2021 at 10:15 pm #211960If true (and i have no reason to doubt) then frankly this is an embarrassing move by a club who are doing as much as possible to alienate us core supporters. John is part of the matchday experience and I missed seeing him last week against Swindon. I don’t know anyone who loves or cares about our club as much as John. We need to take our club back if decisions like this are the standard. A disgrace.

August 15, 2021 at 12:29 am #211961Every week we read of unsavory actions being taken by club management, true supporters are faced by one thing after another, all the bullshit we have been given over seven years, we now cannot use cash in the ground, we have sunken to an all time low, with results, entertainment and general enjoyment throughout our once enjoyable visits to GP, with many loyal long term or even short term supporters driven from what was a very big part of our lives. So after the ground, car park and training land being taken from us, we have no reason to even go to games any longer, simply because the club is on its last legs, we have lost everything we ever had, and if John is no longer doing the half time ticket draw selling and being in charge of the away team bus, that must be about the last straw. It is difficult to see why such a devoted, friendly and loyal person can no longer be doing these jobs for the good of supporters and club funds, it just points to me, that everything is being done nowadays so that the club fails.
It is difficult to see how supporters can accept any more of this, and it is about time fans got together and demanded to know why the club management appear to do so many things against supporters wishes, I feel that I and a few friends and family of mine have done the correct thing by no longer attending matches, what’s the point!!!!
Good luck John, it has been good knowing you mate.

August 15, 2021 at 8:52 am #211962Certainly a question needs to be asked by this trust thing you all seemed to have joined, or Bru, or the new fans panel or indeed why don’t the Bru invite John to do a podcast or interview to explain what has really gone on and of course is life as an iron fan. If indeed true well worthy of a protest during game time either clapping or turning ones back something along them lines, but let’s find out first.

August 15, 2021 at 10:14 am #211965I once went with John in his car to Macclesfield with a young Earl Priestley, when we got parked up near the ground the club bus arrived and John ran off helping the kit man with the basket into the ground, me and Earl never saw John again until after the game, he is a great bloke and have got to admit I have never seen anyone eat so many chocolate biscuit bars, he must have had 4 or 5 packs of 5 over the 2 journeys, I don’t know what as gone on but it is no way to treat a dedicated clubman for numerous years.

George Guest was the pot man at the club where my dad was steward.
Another senior moment 🤪
August 15, 2021 at 12:06 pm #211974Before Staffgate gets totally out of hand has anyone actually heard John’s version of events?
It could just be as simple as going cashless means that selling draw tickets is not practical. I assume going cashless is for Covid relaTed reasons and many English clubs seem to have done the same thing this season.
Of course if we are sure he has just been told to “do one” then I fully support some kind of public protest. I worked with Staffy very briefly when I was an apprentice electrician about 50 years ago and he used to wear an Iron shirt under his overalls long before replica kits were a thing. Iron legend more so than most ex players.

August 15, 2021 at 12:16 pm #211976Has the stadium gone fully cashless though? I paid for a coffee and mediocre pasty with cash in the Cluggy stand vs Swindon.

That’s rather uncalled for Mick, Staffy started going to Scunny games and selling programmes outside the OSG when he was around 11, he’s the wrong side of seventy now so I don’t think his loyalty is in question TBH. Top bloke Staffy, ” draw tickets “.

August 15, 2021 at 1:37 pm #211980Top bloke s going a bit far Ironawe, bit of a nerd really but he’s our nerd and it appears he has been wronged.
August 15, 2021 at 1:47 pm #211981Cashless makes sense at turnstiles and the ticket office. Even the refreshments kiosks, as it saves time sorting out change and cuts out errors related to such.
But where Staffy’s draw tickets are concerned I can’t see how it would be an issue, especially if he’s the only one handling the cash.
Handing the lucky winner(s) their prize money at halftime is another matter however.
Sands Venue gift vouchers perhaps!
August 15, 2021 at 2:13 pm #211987But your idea of a top bloke is someone who checks the wind direction before they throw a flare in football stadium awaywego. You couldn’t make it up.
August 15, 2021 at 2:47 pm #211989George veal more like it George GUEST was me dad and didn’t sell papers at OSG

August 15, 2021 at 3:08 pm #211991Can everyone take notice, you CAN pay cash for refreshments and you CAN take your own refreshments in as well (within reason). It is an urban myth that you can’t please stop perpetuating it.
August 15, 2021 at 4:48 pm #211996I did make it up you bloody idiot Deerey, Hooligan with flare checks wind direction
I doubt many people on here understand when you’re being and honest and making things up awaywego, such is your logic and reasoning the majority of the time.
August 15, 2021 at 5:12 pm #211997Nowt to do with honesty,Deerey just trying to have a laugh as we roll along. Seriously to think a hooligan would check the wind, come on, I suckered you in and wasn’t even trying to, just get over it. If it makes you feel any better I have been suckered in at times, just crack a smile.

August 15, 2021 at 6:22 pm #212002I’ve seen stranger things at matches in the last 40 odd years tbh and it’s the sort of thing a pissed up hoolie might think funny so I’d hardly say you ‘suckered’ me in. Anyway, it pleased you and triple x so that’s nice.

August 15, 2021 at 8:57 pm #212006Staffy was a programme seller , turnstile operator , 50-50 tickets etc. Got paid for them all.
Infact he’s been on the Iron payroll in some form since the 60s.
Told he always got free bus travel and free away match ticket.
First time he does not get free travel and ticket he does not go.
Call him a top fan !
The over 400 fans who had to pay for travel and tickets yesterday are top fans not someone who stops going once his freebies are stopped.August 15, 2021 at 10:28 pm #212009Is this all just speculation or can someone actually clarify what has happened ?

The over 400 fans who had to pay for travel and tickets yesterday are top fans not someone who stops going once his freebies are stopped.Remember Staffy just didn’t sit on the bus discussing whatever whilst it reached the away venue. He checked for no alcohol on board before leaving ( the law, not his law and meant all fans on that bus could see the game and not miss it due to a moron, probably one of Awaywego’s mates ). He ran raffles, dispensed drinks and snacks, informed fans about drop off and pick up procedure on the day, dispensed rubbish bags for litter and retrieved them for disposal before the bus went back to its depot, informed fans about next games, old programme sales etc etc.
The rest of us just did what all fans do, discussed the game and life in general, met and got to know like minded folk, stared out the window waiting to arrive or spent endless time on their phones whilst Staffy ran the bus for their benefit. So maybe he did get a free ticket, I don’t know or care because John Staff deserved that at the very least and I wish some folk would be a little more gracious about a really nice bloke who’s heart was in the right place and really loved his football club. Nice one Staffy, well done mate 👏👏👏
