August 28, 2024 at 4:09 pm #290175So, Spalding Sacked their promotion-winning manager over the weekend and his replacement is.. Jimmy Dean.
I know he’s popular with some of the committee and volunteers there so this seems to have been on the cards.
Oh well, no side trips to SHS for a while(especially as Pinchbeck are moving out!)
August 28, 2024 at 4:18 pm #290176A recently promoted side in the division below us? Sounds about right.
August 28, 2024 at 4:45 pm #290177Well done Jimmy, hope you’re a great success.
August 28, 2024 at 5:42 pm #290181Might see him in the Lincs Cup later on the season.
Wish him well An OK bloke who dealt with the Hilton farce with some dignity.

August 28, 2024 at 6:04 pm #290185Nice to hear Michelle on the podcast saying neither Jimmy or his staff who left with him are on the club payroll anymore, obviously settled his payoff, wonder how long WHAM would have made Jimmy wait for his money? maybe forever?
August 28, 2024 at 8:04 pm #290193Of course it would have been forever he stopped funding the club last September, it’s not that hard to understand no money no pay, though Jimmy wouldn’t have got the extra money from the contract extension that Michelle gave him.
August 28, 2024 at 8:19 pm #290194Doesn’t take much to get the Hilton lover nibbling, really funny
August 28, 2024 at 8:23 pm #290195Hilton stopped funding the club on 25 January 2023.

The taxman said never mind we’ll let you off the £192.000 the club owed them.August 28, 2024 at 9:05 pm #290205Ha ha when you really love someone guess it’s hard to let go.

He was potentially a penalty kick away from him managing us in the National League- fine margins.
Some classless comments on social media regarding his new appointment, despite his flaws he held together a team that was ready to jack it in last year and god knows what else he had to endure under dodgy Dave.

Most of them are from those who know the football scene round Pboro… Sacking a manager a few games after he got you promoted.. this was all planned. “Classy” behaviour.
Nice Guy Jimmy, no wonder so many of you were taken in by the previous crowd!

Not quite, he was a penalty kick away from another game that might have seen him managing us again in the National League.
August 29, 2024 at 10:05 am #290222Now at a level more suited to his ability. The players will surely respect a manager that has worked at a higher level, lack of respect was part of the problem here IMO.

Jerry: “What makes you think we’re not still paying Jimmy Dean”
Someone else “Michelle mentioned it on the Iron Bru Podcast”Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
August 29, 2024 at 10:32 am #290228I don’t think any of the comments about Dean are that bad to be honest. Worst I’ve seen is ‘PE Teacher’ and criticisms of his ability. Seen far worse about previous managers. Unless I’ve missed something.

August 29, 2024 at 10:50 am #290229He won’t go down as the worst manager Scunthorpe United has ever had. Far from it.

I wouldn’t have many below him, to be honest. Maybe Alan Knill.
August 29, 2024 at 11:52 am #290231From recent times Hill definitely Cox probably.

August 29, 2024 at 11:53 am #290232August 29, 2024 at 11:53 am #290233Good call on Hill, I thought Cox was dealt a much more difficult hand than Dean. Not to say Dean had it all rosy, of course, but he at least had a really talented squad at his disposal.
August 29, 2024 at 11:59 am #290235And finished second not a great fan but statistics show he not worst
August 29, 2024 at 12:01 pm #290236Dean also finished comfortably second albeit in a lower league.
Cox had a more difficult gig as did Daws but each were bettered by Nelson if only for a brief period.

I would argue a better measure of a manager is how they achieved vs. the tools they were given and the expectations. For example, the job Nigel Adkins did in keeping us up in the Championship in 2010, even though he lost more game than he won that season, is more impressive than say promotion under Russ Wilcox.
My judgement of Dean is, admittedly, slightly clouded by the fact I found him really unimpressive as a leader (those interviews when he sounded like his world had fallen apart after a narrow defeat, you never got that from Adkins) and I found his style of football & refusal to change his approach very frustrating.

August 31, 2024 at 10:09 am #290336Poison dwarf(Hurst) worst one for me with how far he took us backwards in his short time. then went on to blow Grimsby’s cup windfall and nearly got them relegated again. Shrewsbury bottom of the league.
Hill next – just dreadful all the way through.

August 31, 2024 at 12:58 pm #290343Hill definitely the worst for me in my lifetime. Hurst was also terrible, if you look back now at the squad he had there’s no way we should have been languishing at the bottom end of League 2 during that time.
August 31, 2024 at 3:26 pm #290349Not how I remember Hurst, started off poor but once he saw for himself that Kvv was the man and ignored whoever told him he wasn’t, he then started to get a good team together. At the time Swanny sacked him most were disappointed.
Should it not have read Hurst went on to Grimsby and achieved promotion at the first attempt and went on a great cup run getting to the quarter finals CMC.1 user thanked author for this post.
