He’s had some stick on this forum and elsewhere, some of it harsh to be honest considering the hand dealt, personally I think the way he’s conducted himself through this has been a credit to himself, and the club.
He wasn’t far off tears when he walked off to applause from the main stand, and again during his interview with humberside.
He seems to get it, and whatever shape or form football reappears again in Scunthorpe. I hope he’s there with us.

September 30, 2023 at 11:30 pm #274228Think he struggles a bit sometimes in interviews and it’s probably just not his thing , he’s done good things with this group of players but they let him down a bit today second half. I always think Jimmy comes across as a genuine guy and unlike the current non funding owner he actually appears to feel something for our club and it’s supporters, nice one Jimmy, if we somehow continue as a club I hope you stay.

October 1, 2023 at 7:34 am #274232He has gone up massively in my estimation. It was poor last season, he knew it, promised better and delivered on that promise.
He has been conned by Hilton as much as anyone else, if not more. I can’t imagine how he feels getting his dream shot as a manager then having the rug pulled out from under him. I don’t mind admitting I shed tears listening to his interview after yesterdays game. I don’t blame the players yesterday, they were out there for us and Jimmy and must be emotionally drained after this week.10 users thanked author for this post.
October 1, 2023 at 7:47 am #274233JDs post match interview on HR was excellent , you can sense he cares and must be really pissed off falling for DHs BS .. he (JD) mentioned something is going on behind the scenes to find a solution and chit chat on various media outlets suggesting the same (lets hope its something positive) .. fingers crossed the players get paid within the next few days which means none on contract can walk…or get poached by other clubs.

October 1, 2023 at 7:54 am #274234Players don’t normally walk they often show a bit of loyalty in these situations, it maybe the club who have to move them on for financial reasons though.
October 1, 2023 at 10:10 am #274235If Dean and the rest of the coaching staff have been the ones responsible for player recruitment, then that’s a massive upgrade on the Swann era.
Some of the football played has been excellent.

October 1, 2023 at 8:56 pm #274249Fair play to Dean who has conducted himself very well this season. The team had some good results and although there may be a dip in the next few games owing to folk not eing paid and behind the scenes turbulence, I think he’s done pretty well in the circumstances.
The guy is clearly not very articulate in front of the cameras and doesn’t like interviews, but then give me a decent manager every day over a shiny-toothed patter merchant who talks a good game but doesn’t deliver any results.
Fingers crossed we get through all this.

This
I just think he comes across as genuine which TBF we aren’t used to at Scunthorpe United and I’m referring to higher up the ladder.7 users thanked author for this post.

I think he’s been a lot better this season than last season (maybe he has taken a bit of media training in the summer?) – but he can still be frustrating to listen to.

October 2, 2023 at 3:05 pm #274304I think he’s also not helped by the fact that managers are also expected to be “personalities” these days. Not everyone can be as engaging a post match speaker as a Klopp, a Steve Evans, someone like that. these guys attract loathing and praise in equal measure but they always say something interesting that people react to.
As others have said JD comes across as very authentic and honest and is clearly passionate about the club despite having taken over at the most challenging time in its history. It would be very easy to walk away and no one would blame him in the current circumstances. Huge testament to his character that he’s not only staying to lead the fight but also seems to be a galvanising figure for the players. I’m happy as long as he can get his message across to the players when it is needed- the media don’t really matter.
