I understand that cycling can be scary and that some drivers are inconsiderate. I try to bear this in mind with cyclists myself when driving. However, there are a handful of cyclists who seem to love being a pain and making a fuss over little. One of the main ones seems to be Jeremy Vine with his tweets which seem designed to aggravate. Yesterday he posted this:
This bus did three overtakes today which made me feel somewhat at risk. But I actually don't know whether any rules were broken. Thoughts welcome pic.twitter.com/DcOgyi0Zhe

I have watched it more than once, but can’t see what the bus did wrong. Seems entitled from Vine. It doesn’t highlight the need to be considerate to cyclists, it just makes drivers think they’re pains in the backside.
March 20, 2024 at 2:20 pm #282922Joey Barton called Vine a cycling nonce, and is threatening to sue Barton for defamation.
March 20, 2024 at 3:08 pm #282930I saw Vine’s post yesterday and also watched it a few times. Agree with Siderite’s comments. I cycle and drive most days too. I also saw Barton’s comments. The less said about him the better IMO
March 20, 2024 at 3:11 pm #282931Buses and other vehicles overtaking you multiple times is a regular occurrence and isn’t worthy of posting a clip about. It’s not helpful to fellow cyclists in any way.

March 20, 2024 at 3:46 pm #282933All it does is give ammunition to those who don’t think drivers can do wrong with cyclists. They will then make out any complaining cyclist is like Vine. What does he expect the bus driver to do? Drive slowly behind him and maybe make himself late for the schedule to please him?
March 20, 2024 at 6:12 pm #282941Yep a waste of a video, the rules about giving cyclists enough room whilst overtaking must be nigh on impossible on London or any City streets for that matter.
March 20, 2024 at 6:41 pm #282944I am also a keen cyclist and don’t see any problems with the bus driver. The bus stops were all a reasonable distance from the points the bus passed the bikes.

March 20, 2024 at 8:18 pm #282950And he’s not even complaining about that, it’s the amount of times it overtakes he has an issue with. If he needs to ask the question publicly he should perhaps do a cycling proficiency test and read the highway code. Nothing compared to almost getting banjaxed by taxi drivers and boy racers on a daily basis!
March 20, 2024 at 8:26 pm #282953Sensible fellow cyclist I know has been knocked off 4 times in the last year. It’s a bad state of affairs when he asks why I haven’t and I have to tell him its probably because I’m so wary I’m cycling at such a slow pace anticipating a driver pulling out on me or cutting me up that I can stop and prevent it before impact. It’s the only way I’ve avoided being hit a dozen times over in the past year. Always wear high viz day and night plus decent lights at night.

March 20, 2024 at 10:26 pm #282954Try to do the same, and do off road routes as much as possible. Lots of good routes and canal paths nearby. Experience on motor bikes adds to anticipation skills.
My view is the vast majority of road users are respectful to bike riders, but still at risk from nutters who think it’s funny to get as close as possible and road ragers.
March 21, 2024 at 2:51 pm #282957Interesting-read the comments. All is not as it seems in the opening post
This afternoon I've confronted a man in the Hyde Park area for taking pictures of children on the school run as he rides alongside cars. He pretended he didn't hear me and eventually rode away.
I'm absolutely furious, please RT thankyou @MetCC pic.twitter.com/5eIAdq7SPb

March 21, 2024 at 8:09 pm #282959I don’t do x, but that’s Cycling Mikey from YouTube.
March 21, 2024 at 9:37 pm #282960Cycling Mikey is contentious, but I don’t think baseless accusations of snapping kids helps. Why does every disagreement have to be extreme now?
