One not mentioned in the list is Jamie Forrester.

Like Sharp he always got a shot off at the earliest opportunity. Touch-shot-goal!

Don’t think we’ve had a fox in the box type forward for many years now.

Then there was Martin ‘Ghandi’ Carruthers. Ghandi’s gonna get ya! Cool, efficient striker with a decent goals to games ratio over a couple of seasons.

Easy job playing alongside Torps. Carruthers, Hayes, Mclean all got 20+ and the big fella got double figures as well.

Torps – best target man ever seen at Scunny and could still score goals.

From memory didn’t Jacob escape a red at GP when with Barnsley with an horrendous tackle near the tunnel ?

Two footed shocker. Remember it well.

Butt was a good player back in the day, not anymore. Rather give a chance to Shrimpt, Cribb, Moore-Billam.

Sounds as though he had a good 55mins today. McMahon in interview with Chris Sumpter said he joined trained to get his fitness any decision to make an offer will be down to Mr Hill but one hasn’t been made yet.

It would appear that we really need to get this man and pronto. The kind of player who could change everything.

He must be at least a little keen, otherwise why would he be playing in our pre season?

Also why would Hill start him in our first home friendly if he was just here to train and get his fitness up? Sign him up!

If he can stay fit and he’s as good as some on here are saying then won’t his agent be looking to get him the best financial deal possible? If so then surely a league one or two club with more money then us and that’s a lot of clubs these days, will come calling.

Saw a massive difference when Butterfield, Feeney and Whitehouse went off and we got pushed back like last season with the kids, they are promising but not ready yet to play too many of them.

I disagree, to an extent Mick.
The point is that these lads will only produce of their best when they have experience amongst them and around them. Our past problems didn’t come from youngsters but from youngsters having to play with even more youngsters.

The upside of that has been how many are now ready to slot in alongside more experienced players. This was why I supported Hill’s decision to put so many of these guys into the inferno at the end of last season when the season was gone. The value of that was starting to show through today.

Daniel, Whitehouse and Butterfield brought genuine structure which had previously been lacking – even Feeney looked better in a proper setup and helped younger players.
Gallimore had a really good game – looks a genuine RB now.
Moore-Bilham looks like a real find. Nuttall looked better alongside Daniel.

Only Sellars-Fleming didn’t look quite right. He has guts, skill, determination, ability but needs to spend some time in the gym building some muscle. Real promise there, though.

Perhaps Harry Lewis is not an LB. I suggested he might be a few weeks ago and someone took me to task over that. They were right. He is better further forward.

    GK looks a find!

I know full well that it was only a friendly but it encouraged me. Am unable to get to the next two – and am lamenting that fact.

We are moving slowly towards a ‘balanced squad’.

A good gutsy performance obviously lost there shape with the substitutions, looks like we have a few seventy minute men ,need cover at centre half if boyce gets injured we will be snookered and nuttall needs a striker to play alongside.

Going by today he’s top end league one level kind of ability and he’d be more than comfortable there. As I said on another thread, if we can somehow pull this off it will be the signing of the season by a country mile.

Les isn’t that what I said, when we play too many of them, they aren’t physically strong enough.

True enough, Mick but experience is the biggest factor.
Some great performances from young uns today.
We both agree that there can be too many in a side.

Could actually be a marquee signing. His experience invaluable in helping the young talent coming through.

Perhaps this has helped him make the decision.

This signing is a piss take really for that level. If we can keep him fit for the majority of the games he’ll stick out like as a sore thumb at that level, not too dissimilar to what Beagrie looked like when he came here.

Honestly this signing is right up there for me. I’d pitch him fairly comfortably top end league one so how the hell Hill has snagged him is anybody’s guess.

    Top, top signing.
