Training with the iron according to Iron-bru on twitter! Would be a good signing if we can pull it off?

Another who has struggled to play a full season for most of his career.

    This is probably why:

“Butterfield missed the rest of the 2011–12 season through injury following a shocking ‘tackle’ in the New Year’s Eve derby encounter with Leeds United bringing his “amazing” form to an end. Scans taken after the match showed it to be torn anterior cruciate ligaments. He finished the season – albeit prematurely – with five goals to his name and a growing reputation in The Championship, described by his manager Keith Hill as the best midfielder in the league.”

Obviously a decent midfielder, but still not a CF.

Maybe waiting to pick up a league 1 or 2 CF on loan?

Bring him in – but he needs to have an ‘enhanced medical’ first.
A bit of class would not go amiss in the squad.

I think this should be called ScunthorpeSupporterSyyndrome SSS, look to see who could / has signed/ training with us, don’t look at their career record or what level they have played, but first of all look to see their injury records and how many games they will miss sat with Jordan Hallam in the treatment room.

32 years old, lots of higher level experience, possible captain material?

I like the fact we are getting a bit of experience through the spine, Boyce, Butterfield, Nuttall, more needed though and the clock is ticking.

Oh! and we need a kit to play in (preferably two in case of a colour clash when were away)

Steve – just so long as it is someone with experience.

Regarding Kit it has been said it will be unveiled at the Sheffield United game.

If we sign Butterfield it would be a coup you would have thought for national league but we’ll have a load of CM and still only 1 striker.

Feeney, Hallam & Beestin have been tried as partners for Nuttall. Guess that will be the fall back if we don’t/can’t get what we all know we need.
As WG says we have numbers (7) for CM and 1 striker, not great in terms of balance.

    We still need a CB.
The balance of the side looks as though it could possibly end up being a bit better than that of recent seasons – but balance of squads has been our bugbear for a lot of years.
Where does a club in our situation find at least one goal-scorer, though?

Nuttall has fewer league starts than Jai Rowe.

From memory didn’t Jacob escape a red at GP when with Barnsley with an horrendous tackle near the tunnel ?

I agree but with all the left sided players we have on the books, maybe Nthle has signed primarily as a CB.

That hadn’t occurred to me before. Would have thought O’Malley was pencilled in to start.

Looks more likely that Nthle is going to be cb cover since we’ve signed another LB

If we can get Whitehouse and butterfield in the centre midfield than would be very promising.

O’Malley can play further forward too. And he can cross a ball at pace.

We keep quoting our more recent strikers as examples of what we would like but wont get theses days, how about a Jim Lumby type of poacher to go alongside Nuttall. I’m sure people of my vintage and era will remember what a useful asset Jim was back in the days of average Iron teams.

Cam Wilson could do that role. Not scared and will attack defences, make runs etc.

Favourite – see user name for details.
Best – Barrie Thomas by miles if you’re lucky enough and old enough to remember.

Yes Barrie Thomas. But I would like to mention Nigel Cassidy – very sadly missed.

Definitely Barrie Thomas with Nigel Cassidy next ( although Nigel May be a ‘romantic choice’ because this was the team of my late teens with Heath, Keegan, Kerr, Ashman etc, Friday night football, fish and chips and a sneaky bottle of cider on Frodingham footpath). After that it’s a close call between John Eyre, Andy Flounders and and Tony Daws. John Eyre I think.

If Nthle is signed as a CB then fair enough, you can see the sense in that. If Kahoosi or whatever he’s called works out and we sign him for LW, he can compete there with Lewis. Butterfield would further strengthen midfield but could really do with another RB to compete with Rowe and a few strikers.

I did mention Tom elliot yesterday as he’s available. I vaguely remember a player for Barrow scoring a worldie against us called Sea-pronounced sea-a, young french striker and another one who I think score against us called Benny Ashley Seal…think he scored against us for Northampton, scored 2 in 9 last season, ex wolves youth.

There are players out there worth a trail at least surely ?

Lumby scored so many of his with headers in the 6 yard box.
Flounders scored more with his head than many tend to remember – last touch from 3 yards out.
When I think of Cammy, I see him going two paces into the box in left channel and then hammering across the GK and inside his left hand post.
He did that with SO many goals!
    A smile and a sigh!
