Being still involved on paper isn’t the point you were making though, he did the right thing in moving on after his age and health stopped him taking an active and therefore more productive role. So he could not carry on in the way he had previously when he made the club successful and you know that.

To apb. There are no shareholders meetings anymore. There are no votes, no anything they are called Fans Forums where no matter what is said from the floor they are ignored.

I believe Mr Swann did say he has 91.5% of the shares. As to volume of Mr Whartons shares they got watered down by the way Mr Swann introduced capital to fund whatever he deemed needed funding.

Errr……that’s not quite true. There was an EGM only a few months ago.

I’m fairly sure we’re singing from the same hymn sheet in respect of Swann and his abject lack of engagement so it’s by and large irrelevant – and because of his extensive majority shareholding and the fact it’s a private company he isn’t required to call AGM’s – and obviously during lock down there were none anyway.

However, in the years immediately after he took over (when he was actually engaged in the business) he did call AGM’s in the usual course of business and SW duly attended.

They were Fan’s Forums. No resolutions were ever presented to be voted on.

All the rules were changed. The last meeting was where people with shares could attend – if you were given a place at it. Do you think with 91.5% of the shares he would lose ANY vote, that any suggestion from the floor would be adopted. Of course it wouldn’t.

Nothing against Wharton and agree the present ownership has elevated him to sainthood but his best ever move was winning the lottery when he took the cheapo option in replacing Brian Laws.

Cheapo option or clever tactical Chairman nous? we will never know so can only speculate and give an opinion. The current Chairmans record compared to Whartons is a matter of proven fact. No speculation required.

Just to put the record straight, my original post was tongue in cheek…

    Poor old Steve.

He was and still is a genuine supporter of the Iron, his health forced him to move aside and it was either Hobson or Swann, excuse the pun but that really was Hobson’s choice.

We will be the first club relegated from the league on ‘one mans ego’ and yes I want Ernest gone, but why should he walk away scot free and with a stadium of real estate in his arse pocket?
