Firstly it looks like there is some fight in this team and hopefully a better finish than last season.
It appears the club does listen with the new flags. Don’t know if seats where cleaned. I gave mine up this season as was fed up with the state of them.
Now to the Iron bar. The service and standard of service is atrocious. Peter wants fans to spend money down at the ground. Halftime there was lads in front of me wanting to buy £20 rounds. They didn’t get served They ended up walking away. One person told you can’t be served you’ve got one. People just walking away from the bar not been served.
Bottle beer been poured in to plastic cups just get plastic bottles.
Two staff on. With no speed at all. Don’t blame Covid.
Then you wonder why fans/customers don’t use your facilities. They want to spend there money and support the club.
    PLEASE SORT THIS OUT.
It’s spoiling the football experience you keep asking us about.

The food kiosk at the away end in the main stand at half time seemed to have virtually no customers.
The Club seem they don’t want to make money.
    I wonder why ?

Took my 2 daughters as the wife was at work, seats covered in cobwebs and bird poo with the season ticket holders sticker still on there from 2 seasons ago…
    shoddy!!
    Unprofessional!!
And all of this under the stewardship of someone who’s main business is hospitality…
    Disgusting!!

If only we were run by a ‘developer’ who aspires to match “anything London has to offer” when running a bar.

Perhaps if the Scunthorpe demographic included a sizeable number of wannabe James Bonds we might be the beneficiaries of such quality surroundings….

Agree with the OP. The Iron Bar was a disgrace and it’s no wonder the place is nearly empty on a matchday now.

I feel really sorry for the staff who are genuinely trying their best, but given they are now forced to pour beer out of bottles and cans into plastic cups, there’s just no way of serving quickly & efficiently. The whole point of the bottle bar was so drinks could be dispensed quickly, yet it took me the majority of half time to get two drinks.

The steward was also making a tally of the number cans sold on a piece of paper. Why? I thought we had a state of the art roll system.

I mean it when I say I won’t be going in there again.

It’s as if the Club are trying to run everything down to make it a match day experience to forget
Not been in the Iron Bar for ages so cannot comment but the rest of the catering seem run down and the state of the ground and surrounding areas is terrible.
May be trying to get the crowds down so they can say we tried but the town is not supporting us.
As it says in the link it will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds to clean the hotel when it opens but they not prepared to clean a few seats etc at the ground. Says it all really.
Even if all this was sorted we are left with a Team that is hardly going to bring fans flocking back !
Supported the Iron for over 60 years but don’t think I will have a Team to watch in the very near future.

Dunno about James Bonds, but we’ve a fair few Dr Nos amongst our fans!

The Old Farmhouse and Costa will be rubbing their hands together. Swann wants us to come and spend money but all he does is encourage us to spend it elsewhere.

I go to Castleford Tigers on a regular basis, slightly different rules on the sale of alcohol I know but we have ‘Bottle Bars’ dotted around the ground which to be honest are just glorified sheds serving beers and spirits manned by two people with an extra person who flits between the other bottle bars.

All the bottles are plastic, served cold from fridges, which are topped up by this extra person who moves around the bottle bars when the fridges run low which always seem to be full throughout the game.

If someone wants a draught pint (usually Guinness and bitter with an extra cider pump) it is served quickly (depending on number ordered).

The queues are minimal (3-4 minutes) including during the usual busy periods (just before kick off and at half time) and payment is taken by both cash and card.

The bars close with 5 minutes to go, the tills are read and stock is counted.

They are continuously busy but seem to run smoothly to the untrained eye, if only we had someone who worked in the hospitality industry in the club who could run our bars and kiosks more effectively.

SST is claiming the iron bar is nearly empty on match days, and yet it took nearly 15 mins to get his drinks?. From the original post people were walking away because they couldn’t get served,it would appear actually the iron bar is very popular, or maybe not which is it?. The staff are probably all they can get and if there owt like the stewards there just no no’s, so you can’t really expect to much.

That’s the point Awayswego; It was hardly 2 deep at the bar and it still took over 15minutes to get served.

Not only were there few punters actually bothering, those who did couldn’t even spend their money.

    Won’t be going back in.

In my working career I once worked for a company that went bust. You could see the writing on the wall for months, there was a lack of investment from the owners, they cut-back on all but the most essential of services, and didn’t replace any staff that left. The whole business looked like it was being deliberately run down.

Not too dissimilar to what we are currently experiencing this season!

I walked through the door into the Iron Bar on the half time whistle. There were four people ahead of me in the queue and I was served about three minutes before the second half kicked off. Why would I make it up?

I tried and tried to get these points across for a long time, but was ridiculed by the resident club apologists who no longer comment because they are not man enough to admit they were wrong about Swann. None of this is anything new, the service in the Iron Bar and food kiosks has always been a joke, in the Iron Bar the lady that appears to be in charge (short lady with dark hair) spends more time gossiping to her staff and mates that stand at the bar than she does serving customers.

Haven’t any of you got a voice, wouldn’t be happening if I went in and there were so few people in and it was taking so long, raise your voice get angry with them. The photos do show no one at the bar and no queue, what was the problem?, if people were walking away why?. If you couldn’t get served in a bar that sparsely populated there’s something wrong with you and not the staff.

Give it up Awaywego the reflection in the flat screen of the sparsely populated Iron Bar tells it’s own story, what a joke. I’ve been in plenty of away bars at half time ( would never go in our shit hole of a bar ) and they have always been jammed with fans jostling, chatting and more importantly all drinking beer. The screen should read lost customers due to an idiot not lost signal.

Shouting and screaming at the staff is not the answer, if they are not capable of doing the job they are paid to do then the club should deal with them accordingly and get staff in that are capable, who is Managing them??? Any hospitality venue worth it’s salt has a food & beverage Manager? This is not a new thing, it’s being going on for years now, the Iron Bar should be rammed every home game, and it would be if it was Managed properly especially now that The Berkeley is shut.

And the staff complain to a steward and that’s the end of your experience at the club that day… and maybe for longer?

Not as many real pubs down here these days, I usually head out of town for a drink as it’s much cheaper. If I was stood there at the bar waiting to be served, and the staff were not serving anyone else, I would lean over the bar and in a slightly louder voice I’d say ‘excuse me!’ If that didn’t work I’d raise my voice until I got their attention. They’re bar staff, and probably have other jobs elsewhere. Insist upon service and you will surely get it.

If all of the afore mentioned problems are to do with Swann lowering the value of the club. Then he may well sell it to Coolsilk in a bonfire sale…

Ironawe thanks you saw there was hardly anybody in there so you appreciate that what people said about not getting served was utter bollocks, this never ending beating the club over the head, don’t mind if it’s genuine but Saturdays photos show otherwise, of course unless you can see something different to me. And Pat shouting always seems to work for me in shops when there’s only 1 on a till while many filling shelves, I raise my voice and ask for service, after all without customers they won’t have a job and I do tell them so. Of course you can see they don’t like it but they get over it, Swannys Wilko’s used to be the worst, don’t get me wrong everyone will look at you but at least you get served (and so will they). The point of shouting is to get attention and to get served, after all I’m not asking for a favour they won’t improve if everyone let’s them get away with it. What is the steward going to do when called over Alcy when everyone backs me up. Unless of course they ARE serving everyone and doing their best.

Awaywego if you raise your voice or shout at them they stop serving all together. You obviously don’t go in the Iron bar. We stopped going in before the game because bad service.
We thought we would give it another go at halftime but it’s was no better. We have now made an official complaint.
The club want the fan’s to have good match day experience. Then they need to sort it out.
Awaywego I would treat you to a pint but we would miss the game.

I can not speak about the staff behind the main bar and try to avoid it at all costs due to negative past experiences, however the girl at the bottle bar was genuinely trying her best.

She could have served triple the amount of fans from this bar had she not had to pour the drinks into plastic beakers. It was taking her ages as she was taking care to avoid too much froth but in all honesty it was painful to watch.

It should not take the best part of fifteen minutes get two cans of beer in any establishment. If this is the service the Blackpool locals can expect at Swann’s new luxury Spy themed bar, the place will have the shutters up before the hotel opens next summer.

Well done Marty for putting a complaint in, if no one says anything nothing will change, at least your trying, if everyone tried a bit of direct action things might change, Oldham fans are trying various actions, the first failed miserably a group organised a home attendance boycott but ended up getting more in than previous opening day fixture, they ended that one and blamed coved and lack of tickets for away games, the second one went rather better with the pitch invasion on Saturday that has got everyones attention, media wise as well as an fa investigation. Posters on here have a lot to say, it’s about time they backed it up.
