This morning I convinced the wife we should have a last minute break this August for a week on a holiday park just outside Maidenhead!
All booked – along with tickets for the Maidenhead and Woking game – :)
Do you think I should mention the football (she’s not a fan) before we travel from Plymouth, or drop it into a conversation when we get there?
Anyone else had to go to this length to catch a game? :)
Got a feeling you might suffer from acute earache and a large serving of cold shoulder on this break. Good luck
Always go to the Congleton Jazz & Blues Festival August Bank Holiday.
In previous years it has just happened to coincide with games at Port Vale and Macclesfield.
Hoping this year we’d be playing someone like Altrincham, but no such luck!
Drop it in to a conversation when you’ve just gone out your way for something and she’s extremely grateful. It’s either going to work if you’re savvy, or go tits up if she’s got the measure of you
Good luck.
Give her a few quid to treat herself shopping and tell her you’ll have a quiet couple of pints in the club house. That might work for one game.
Twice – once to Grange Over Sands for a week at Easter to catch the Good Friday game in Morecambe (1-1 – Winnall), and again to Clyst St Mary in Devon to get within 50 miles of Plymouth (4-0 – Madden 2, Morris & Hopper )
Took my better half to Shrewsbury when we won promotion from league two back in 2005. It was our 25th wedding anniversary but I sneaked my mate and his missus along so the girls went shopping whilst we went to the match to witness the memorable 0-0 result and even more memorable seeing Steve Wharton with a single bottle of champagne plus flat cap on the pitch celebrating our great day. Made up for things with a fantastic meal out that evening and next day we called in at Bournville to suss out the chocolate story. You can always woo a lady with chocolate.
I took my then girlfriend, now wife, to Luton on Valentine’s Day one year. We won 3-2. No idea how I managed to swing that one to be honest.
Can’t match any of them, mine have just been selfish actions going to the European cup final Liv v Bruges on wedding anniversary, and Accrington on valentine’s night, she’s voluntary been twice to London when we’ve played Charlton obviously not to the match though.
