Maybe I’m missing something but I cannot for the life of me see why we are playing Howe over Rowe at the moment, given Howe is on loan. Why are we prioritising him over developing our own players? I thought we wanted to use youth development as a way of making the club more sustainable over time?
In general, I understand that loan players are a necessary evil and occasionally you will get a good one (although it’s been a while since we had anyone particularly memorable), and occasionally you need someone a bit more experienced and difficult times, but now that our season is over why are we not giving our own youth players a chance?

April 13, 2021 at 8:39 am #204651Maybe we have been advised that Howe will be available in the summer. I think Rowe is OOC (with no information on a new contract offer) and the manager might be having a good look before making his choice. Taft’s loan was made permanent after a few games, this could be similar.
April 13, 2021 at 8:59 am #204652also if you are paying for a loan player if you don’t play him you aren’t getting value for money, apart from the fact he has played well.
April 13, 2021 at 9:25 am #204654Short time thinking there Mick – why aren’t we investing in our own players with a view to making more money on them in future?
Maybe we have been advised that Howe will be available in the summer.
Yeah I wondered that but if that was the case, you’d have thought we’d have got something agreed in advance before giving him the chance to attract other clubs to come in and gazump us. Maybe it’s already agreed behind the scenes? Who knows!
April 13, 2021 at 9:38 am #204656Blackpool are on a good run and will fancy their chances in the playoffs.
Although I doubt they’ll go up they may want to offload players they don’t consider Championship quality.
I’d be happy with Howe and Rowe as our RB options next season with Clarke either released or kept as a CB with Taft, Manny and Bedeau. O’Malley at LB with either Brown or Butroid.
That defence wouldn’t be too shabby.
April 13, 2021 at 10:13 am #204657I wondered the same initially, Ferrite; but as mentioned above you’d like to think that the reason is because we are eyeing up a permanent move in the summer, and this gives us chance to have a closer look.
Or is that too pro active ?
April 13, 2021 at 10:57 am #204658Think it’s a combination of things already said above, mainly that’s he’s better than Rowe (especially going forwards) and we’ll likely be interested in a permanent move of the opportunity arises.

Would you have thought that Ferrite? Have you forgotton which club you support? I might have thought that a few years ago, now I’m afraid what we are doing is exactly what I would expect.
If we had any kind of forward thinking we’d be bringing Jessop off the bench for 10-15 minutes instead of Olomola.
April 13, 2021 at 12:42 pm #204662But – we still need two RBs.
April 13, 2021 at 12:54 pm #204663Maybe Hornshaw again for the first 10 games until we decide (again) that it’s not the answer.
April 13, 2021 at 1:10 pm #204664Agree regarding Hornshaw Cass.
As a club with a stated philosophy of developing young talent it might have been worth having a look at Hornshaw in his proper position.
April 13, 2021 at 1:20 pm #204665I’d have no problem with Howe playing if we were seriously considering signing him but that remains to be seen.
As for the other youth team players, there are several like Barks, Dawson, Jessop, Pugh & Hornshaw who I’d like to see given the odd opportunity to see what they can do. And given how tired/injured half the team looked on Saturday, this is surely the time?
April 13, 2021 at 2:10 pm #204666They obviously haven’t shown that the defensive aspect of their game is good enough. Probably Dawson can’t defend corners and that’s what’s holding him back.

April 13, 2021 at 4:34 pm #204672Anyone unable to defend corners would have fitted seamlessly into the team in about half the games this season.
April 13, 2021 at 4:36 pm #204673Perhaps Dawson is good at attacking corners in which case he definitely wouldn’t fit in the team.
April 13, 2021 at 4:48 pm #204675Howe is contracted at Blackpool until 2022. Cannot see us paying a fee.
Rowe, Butroid, Hornshaw, Pugh, Jessop, Barks, Jessop, Shrimpton, Silva are all out of contract – how many will be here next season ? I fear not many. We don’t develop our own these days to regular first team duty. So I cannot see Joey Dawson signing a contract, even more so when you look at the opportunities all of the above have had this season.
Mick Buxton gave young players a chance when there was a downturn of fortunes – Mr Neil Cox got his chance, Richard Hall got his chance as did Graham Alexander. How come these young pro’s never got a chance ?
Never been so disappointed in the management this season over this.
