‘Continuity player’ implies someone who can do the average stuff Okayish but is incapable of lifting the team.
Wayne Jacobs once explained it to me.
Gillead, Spence and Beeston – it’s very difficult for them to get on the ball and influence a game if the ball is constantly launched over their heads from both teams. They end up running up and down the pitch like busy fools. No wonder they are knackered.
The team will play better if the best players are on the ball. Can’t remember Gillead touching the ball until we were 1 down. We played like a very poor Sunday League team.
