    https://soundcloud.com/sufcofficial-398987333/interview-david-hilton

If you haven’t listen to this, listen to it. There’s a lot to digest:

    1. He’s gone against advice to give this interview. (Credit – good – I’m glad he’s communicating with fans)

    2. He’s admitted that he was jailed back in 2015. (Admitted it – good. But the fact that he WAS jailed, is a problem – the owners’ test for next year is going to cause us a problem. Big-style)

    3. He’s being up-front about depression. Good.

    4. He sounds like he could resign. What on earth happens if he does?

    5. Swann = bad doesn’t automatically mean that Hilton = good.

Now what? I don’t hate Hilton. I can’t. If Hilton hadn’t come forward, Swann would have let this club go out of business.

But that doesn’t sound like a man who thinks there’s a way to stay as Chairman.

    At least now we know…

Good to see some honesty, but after months of gaslighting and nonsense my sympathy only goes so far. I don’t trust him after what has happened. He told us, with a straight face, that his past isn’t dodgy, that those stirring up were trouble makers trying to bring him down, who we should have seen as a saviour. Not only that, there was the accusations against sceptical fans or owners of this website, whose comments were not that inflammatory against him. After all that, I will not be fully accepting of it and more wary of his intentions. People will say he can reform, which might be true, but I am not going to take his word for it, especially after the rubbish we had from him earlier. Frankly, I hope someone comes in and buys the club off him, so we don’t have to deal with this circus from the saviour.

The interview sounded like ‘goodbye’ will happen. Whether by luck or design, we’re in a stronger position than we were when he said ‘hello’.

Turned off after his self-pitying attacks on journalists.

He says he made mistakes and is willing to own up and change, but I’d have had far more sympathy if he didn’t hurl accusations against others, while always being the victim. He owns his mistakes, he says, but there’s always a but about those who bring these things to light. If he is going about changing his life, he’s doing it the wrong way. He might have a point about it’s hard to get second chances when you’ve been convicted and you want to change. However, people will always have wariness around such people, and you can’t blame them. I’d have had more respect if this didn’t come when forced and wasn’t after months of digs at others. Nor at journalists for doing their damn job. As for public interest, of course it’s public interest. We have had clubs collapse due to lack of transparency and such. Transparency is needed to prevent bad owners, even if it creates stress for them. I have sympathy for him dealing with depression, but that doesn’t mean we should just turn a blind eye to his tenure or worries over how he would handle the club. That could affect others’ mental health.

Credit for a frank exchange. I am less impressed by the continued accusations against others though.

Difficult listen, would not be surprised if he walks and I wouldn’t blame him TBH, hope the board can come up with a constructive plan going forward if he does, indeed perhaps a way forward is already being put in place.

Should all convicted criminals be reintegrated into society after serving their sentence, and be able to make a success of their lives?

I hope he stays but fear he will go, football is a family warts and all specially outside the top 2 divisions, I don’t and won’t have a problem with him staying more like one of us we all have our pasts, well at least some of us do and don’t deny them.

Now what? I don’t hate Hilton. I can’t. If Hilton hadn’t come forward, Swann would have let this club go out of business.

I’m not sure about this narrative; there were other bids on the table, weren’t there? Now it may be Swann’s fault that he made the wrong choice, but I’m not convinced that it was Hilton-or-nothing, not the way I remember it.

I’m all for giving people a second chance but is misleading people the right way to go about getting that second chance?

Also, for me, that statement, whilst interesting & informative, didn’t answer the key questions for me.

Hilton was happy to sling mud at others, including fans of this club, for daring to question, so it would have been nice to have more frankness and less hostility to questioning earlier. If he hadn’t acted as if questioning him was trouble making from bullshitters, I would be more forgiving.

    My questions:

    – Does he have the money to a) buy the land & b) make up any operating shortfall (i.e. gate receipts v. wages) to ensure the club can continue?

    – Does the club currently have any significant debts/borrowings?

just chucking this in the mix , not wishing to start a shit fight but ..if DH walks away and no others come in isnt it pretty much certain the club will die…

Bearing in mind DH did step in to basically save the club , now the best squad n set up for years in a good place to move back up the football ladder …so he has done a little bit of bird ( i know many who have) mislead on occasions but id much rather have him at the helm then the club go under.

Listening to his interview sounded to me like a broken man who will walk and who can blame him.. and our club is fooked.

Im sure certain members will be along soon posting with glee .

I’d be more sympathetic to this if he hadn’t lied about his past previously and claimed it was nonsense from trouble causers. Now he can’t fib, it’s easier to be open and honest. I am not writing off that he’s being genuine, but after months of nonsense from him, I am not going to be wholly sympathetic to everything. He’s destroyed trust in himself through his own actions.

Crowds of 3500 to 5000 tell me they are happy because we now have a decent team who are playing good football patrolled by the chairman. We all have our opinions but I reckon he will stay

What I don’t understand how you say you would rather have him at the helm? Really, a convicted criminal! An out and out liar to the fans of SUFC on a regular basis! Doesn’t sound like a good mix for a Football Club owner to me, and I guess the FA might have something to say about it too.

Whilst many will not be happy with someone who defrauded the council of £68 grand, it is the fact that he changed his name (4 names in total I believe) and denied it to all and sundry, making out that he was a victim in all instances.

Yes, we all make mistakes, but defrauding the council is hardly a mistake. It was very obviously planned and carried out over a period of time. He was also charged with fraud under the name White, but evidence was not brought at the hearing. Whilst this is not proof that he was guilty then it does show the areas in which he operates.

Do we really want this at our Club? I certainly don’t.

Is it that easy to tell the difference between a man in a poor mental state and a sob story? Not sure I’m qualified to make that call and I’m not sure you are but your entitled to your opinion.

    so hes
    convicted and served his time
    told a few porkies

    and also
saved the club from the brink of going under
    bought a squad to compete
smiles on faces and abuzz around the place

Good mix to be an owner ??? maybe not but no worse than the UKs politicians and more

Scunthorpe still has a football club

btw if he goes n the club folds would you shed a tear ???

He’s been crying wolf far too often to be believed. It’s never him in the wrong it is Swann, the journalists, the fans blah, blah, blah.

A fairly easy question to answer, with Hilton at the helm we have a club, without him – who knows. Some of us are desperate for our club to survive, others just want to see Hilton humiliated. Do I have concerns? Of course I do, but I also wonder why you and Interested Bystander are so keen to destroy an individual.
