“We’re working with a smaller squad now because some of the trialists are choosing to go elsewhere, but we’re happy with the condition of the players.

In regards to the first pre season friendly vs Sheff Utd

“It’s something that will really test us but we’re looking forward to it. Hopefully we’ll have a few more players through the door, either on trial or signed”

We’ll be happy with simply having players on trial by the 16th ?

6 or 7 short, just under 3 weeks from that pre season game until the season starts and we may have a few players through the door on trial ?

Ok Hill saying he’s not going to panic but we seriously need players.

The young kid from Rochdale, RB has gone as well. Short of players and we’ll be content with getting a few trialists in during the next week .

Does Hill not realise new players will need to bed in to fully contribute ?

Whether he realises it or not is irrelevant if he’s not allowed to do anything about it anyway.

Don’t understand why we are not utilising the loan market. We should have been knocking on the door of the Yorkshire clubs back in may trying to get players through the door.

I remember reading an article a while ago about Lincoln’s staff attending larger clubs with a slick PowerPoint presentation detailing how the could develop future talent in a bid to get clubs to loan them higher quality players.

Aye,suppose it comes down to that pretty much. Money talks. If potential singings are concerned they’re about to join a toxic club , a better wage may well assuage those fears! Which in itself would be a concern. If we were offering big money that is! So what calibre of player does that leave us with? Unless Keef can sell it to em? Maybe he can. I live in hope.

I’m not convinced that the loan market is the way to go. Many teams send junior players out just to build them up. If, however, we can get a couple of big and nasties on loan, then fair enough.

I don’t want any loan players in who haven’t got at least 40 or 50 league games under their belts. Young loanees to make up the numbers is not the way to go.
Bringing in the untried and untested to lift a team with our problems is crazy!
We’ve done it year after year and is one – amongst many – reasons why we are where we are today.
League Two plodders are preferable to the inexperienced ‘with great potential’.

I wouldn’t rule youngsters out 100%, we’ve had a few gems (and plenty of duds)
It’s chancy of course, with a player having 40/50 games under their belt you know what you’re getting. I might be optimistic (I can be sometimes, it doesn’t last long) but the thought of another Cork, Lansbury, Yates whets my appetite a little.

We’ve not had much success recently but I’d put that much more down to what’s going on at the club rather than the quality of the players we bringing in.

The good guys mostly came when we were in The Championship and L1.

We ain’t going to get another Jack Cork in the National League.

After all weren’t people on here suggesting our undercooked players should go out on loan to the NL the past two seasons?

And as for those hardened professionals. Tommy Johnson, Chris Iwelumo, Geoff Horsefield etc.

    It really is pot-luck!

We’ve got enough young players who’s development should come before any other teams youngsters. So please no young loanees from anywhere.

We have our own youngsters to develop particularly in defence and midfield so there is little point bringing in young loanees in for those areas.

Did the likes of Wood and Hackney offer anything better than a Gallimore or a Moore-Billam?

Up front is an area where it might we worth a punt on 1 or 2 loanees. Scrimshaw and Burns may well have got a few goals in a half decent side. Goalscoring is more about instinct and confidence than it is about technique and experience. We have had a few young forwards with little experience that have banged in goals at a better level than National League e.g. Sharp, Keogh and Hooper.
Low risk so long as it does not cost us much and we don’t guarantee appearances.

The guys you mention, NI, were good players who were past it but we still took a punt.
    I did say plodders

I know you’re right and Hill’s hamstrung in terms of what he can go for. I’m just frustrated about the current situation we find ourselves in !
