Another midfielder from Middlesbrough until January
August 31, 2021 at 11:31 pm #212996Taxi for Cox?
Bollocks to full backs and forwards, let’s flood the midfield!
Works for Man City I guess.

September 1, 2021 at 12:40 am #213002Millen is near enough fit now I think, not far off. Rowe put in that display last match and Pugh can do a job there, albeit a bit dodgy there but can hold his own at times.
Thompson and O’malley for the LB slot isn’t too shabby. Scrimshaw, Loft “when he’s back” as the main two upfront with O’neil and Jarvis as back ups is a bit questionable but I imagine Scrimshaw and Loft will cause teams a lot of problems at this level.
This Hackney from what I’ve read is supposed to be a right player. I’ve read what the Boro fans said about him, by all accounts league one clubs were after him but we’ve somehow managed to get it done.
I can’t recall ever reading so many positive comments on a player before. Hull lad is supposed to be a bit of a player as well.
Perry, Hackney, Beestin, Wood and Pugh as the options now. Hallam will probably never be fit and Kenyon despite being injured looked like he was shuffling around in lead boots, never seen anybody as immobile as him before.
I would have liked a striker in but considering we had very little CM options, these two will do nicely. There’s no way we could have kept relying on Hippolyte and whoever else filling in there for much longer.
All in all I’m personally pretty pleased. Get Millen and Bunn back fit to add to the options and we may be ok. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I’d keep Watson in goal now, Bilson will have to wait.
September 1, 2021 at 7:43 am #213003This squad will not be relegated short of even longer injury lists than we started the season with.
I can dream of a top half finish, I reckon.
21 out – 11 in. Sounds sensible.
Considering the budget, I think Neil has done a decent job.
We look to have a working defence with improved GK.
We have some decent CMs + new blood to fire ’em up.
Bit thin on wide players, maybe.
Three big lads who can lead the line but an awful lot resting on the shoulders of Scrimshaw.
Neil can now decide on systems to use.
Biggest issue is that we look set to work through with three CBs. That can only work as long as all three stay fit. Backup looks thin.
If we do play 3/5 at the back – it is how the rest of the plan is going to work which concerns me a bit.
Get stuck in Neil. Prove the doubters wrong.
September 1, 2021 at 9:02 am #213007Wood looked decent in the preseason game here, never heard of Hackney but both have had a taste of first team football and both I believe are attack minded which with Jarvis now fit is that the reason we didn’t go for a striker, so with experience at the back and quite a few mobile midfielders it is hopefully we can start winning games and get a mid table finish minimum.
September 1, 2021 at 9:14 am #213008Still got the man with no number lurking around!
September 1, 2021 at 9:34 am #213009I’m thinking Kenyon Hallam crocked and these are the replacements.
On paper look good signings but goals wins games and we are relying on Loft and Scrimshaw for the whole season. Jarvis isn’t a goalscorer and ONeil looks way off it at the minute.
Next 4/5 games will be interesting to see where this squad is at.

September 1, 2021 at 9:42 am #213010I was talking to Kenyon at the Man City game and he said his was only a minor injury and would be fit in 2 weeks, regarding Hallam no idea, I hope we have signed 2 Ryan Yates, or I wouldn’t complain if they are 2 Alfie Beestins.

September 1, 2021 at 10:32 am #213011Can’t remember the name of last years Middlesbrough loanee as he didn’t play much. Surely this one must be better.
September 1, 2021 at 10:58 am #213012Think it was Ben Liddle the season before last. Made a couple of appearances but didn’t look very good. Now on loan at Queen of the South from Bristol Rovers.

September 1, 2021 at 11:27 am #213013Will Wood and Hackney be the next Lansbury and Cork ?
September 1, 2021 at 12:15 pm #213014What about the impact on players like Dan Gallimore, who was so impressive on his debut at the weekend? Why are we training up other clubs’ players for them rather than our own?

Agreed. If Millen is close then Pugh should get a run at CM I think he’s looked like he has potential there.

This Hackney is supposed to be top quality. Boro fans are expecting him back there in the future to play 1st team football in the championship.
A fair amount of their fans were even saying he was unlucky as he’s good enough to have played more of a part there, he’s supposed to be an attacking central midfielder who can score goals but who’s still solid enough and likes to get stuck in.
No offence to Gallimore but we can’t pass these kind of players up.
When I read “What a signing to you” about a dozen times and the word “baller” a few, that tells me he’s a top young player.
Beestin, Perry and this lad in CM to go with an improving defensive line with Scrimshaw and Jarvis upfront “until Loft comes back” has me fairly optimistic.
As I said Gallimore is a talented lad but this lad will be a lot more developed than he is and will be more handily placed to effect games than Gallimore will be.
You would have thought that he could only learn off a good young player like him anyway.
Pretty pleased with him and wood coming in.
September 1, 2021 at 5:03 pm #213030What’s the point if we’re just a finishing school for other club’s players?
September 1, 2021 at 5:25 pm #213032What’s the point if we’re just a finishing school for other club’s players?
I agree to a certain extent. However, number one priority is to stay in the league and I think these lads give us a better chance. By all means give our players game time but only at the right time
September 1, 2021 at 5:32 pm #213033At this stage of the season I think you look at everyone who is fit and eligible to play and then pick the best team to win a game.
If we are more fortunate than the last 3 seasons and reach a point where mathematically we can reach neither the relegation or promotion/play off places then you favour our own players over loanees.
September 1, 2021 at 5:58 pm #213035It looks possible(?) that Cox might be favouring a 5-3-2 set up in tha absence of quality wingers. He’s said, wrongly IMO, that Pugh is his first choice RB so, if we need 3 fit CMs every week then Kenyon, Perry, Beestin, Wood & Hackney looks OK. If Kenyon fails to improve then Pugh could supplement and, who knows, Hallam might be fit occasionally too.
September 1, 2021 at 6:13 pm #213037We are saving Hallam for next season and giving him this season to get fit

You’ve got it in one. I think this point is missed on ferrite. I agree with him in the sense it’s always more beneficial long term to go with your own players but if you’ve got a player of considerable talent who comes on loan you can’t exactly turn him away because Gallimore is here.
I’m sure Gallimore will get some game time as well.
I agree with cassidy that it appears Cox is favouring this 5-3-2 formation. I’m pretty much a 4/4/2 man but if we have quality midfielders with Scrimshaw and loft when he’s back causing mischief up top I can’t really complain because we are getting solid defensively now which is half the battle already won.
I hope to god Cox still doesn’t see Rowe as a CB after the performance he put in the other day. Rowe looks way more comfortable at RB and same with pugh while playing as a CM.
September 2, 2021 at 8:36 am #213049I can understand signing an extra player to fill out the squad and to provide more competition for places but we now have Kenyon, Pugh, Hallam, Wood, Hippolyte, Pugh, Perry, Hackney and Gallimore competing for two or three midfield spots. That’s 9 players! Granted, Pugh might spend more time at right-back and Hallam has fitness issues but, realistically, how often are we likely to see someone like Gallimore on the pitch in the coming months?
I wouldn’t mind if he’d been nowhere near up to standard the other day but actually he was quite impressive, so let’s see more of him!

September 2, 2021 at 8:47 am #213050possibly the intention is to let Gallimore and Jessop go out on loan to get more experience at non league level.
September 2, 2021 at 9:01 am #213051Why?
Because that’s where we’re heading?September 2, 2021 at 6:09 pm #213068I was talking with cliff Byrne last night at a local game and he said hull city really rate wood! So we will see how these two players get on.
I hope they aren’t just bench warmers as seems to have been the case recently.September 2, 2021 at 6:55 pm #213070Several recent loanees have been bench warmers but that was because they weren’t good enough. I’ve said before that IMO loanees should be nailed on to start (Yates, Toney, Gabriel, Lansbury, Cork) otherwise the loan would seem pointless (Thomas, Miller, Liddle, Ugbo et al).

September 2, 2021 at 8:38 pm #2130742 in, like several I can see 2 going on loan. But which 2. His favourites will say which means………
With Rowe already looking as though he is not in favour which is baffling. Why does he see him as a CB does that mean he sees a CB as a winger.
How many different line-ups this season already ? 352 or 5311 seems the attacking plan !!

Hippolyte was only filling in there so he doesn’t count as he’s a wide player
Hallam is a perma crock so you can chalk him off
Gallimore is still only a rookie so you can’t expect him to feature too oftenThat’s 3 whittled off your total already.
Leaves wood, Hackney, Perry, beestin, Kenyon and Pugh
“who’s seen more as a RB”. Gallimore will be drip fed into the side given cameo here and there but the main players will the first 6 listed players who will be competing for 3 midfield slots which I think is more than suitable. If we get 1 or 2 injuries to those listed players and we favour 3 in the middle like we have been doing then that’s completely fine.
I don’t get why people are moaning personally. Come January I’d loan out Hallam and Jessop if at all possible and get another striker in.
Jobs a good un !
