Had a great day at Ilkeston, superb little ground, ran the right way with helpful stewards and staff around the ground, a steady performance from the team, clean sheet and 3 goals, looking forward to Tuesday night.

July 16, 2023 at 8:49 pm #266869Did they have enough pies at half time?* :-)
*Honestly no malice meant here. This is meant to be a light hearted comment and I am not meaning it as a dig like Bucks used to do.
UTVI (up the vermin iron)!

July 16, 2023 at 8:50 pm #266871On a serious note, I am pleased to hear reports that the performance was good. It’s only pre-season, so we shouldn’t read too much, but wins should hopefully instil a winning mentality again.
July 16, 2023 at 8:55 pm #266873I didn’t have anything to eat at the ground but my lads did and both said in was top notch (one had a pie and one a burger, and both looked good quality). Clubhouse was clean and roomy with plenty of staff serving, decent beer and £11 for 4 drinks. That is how to make money over and above ticket sales. The Farmhouse, maccies and KFC get most of Scunthorpe fans money, which was always my point.

July 16, 2023 at 9:39 pm #266881I went there when we played in the FA Cup and it was on a freezing night and it took you all your time seeing because you’re glasses kept fogging up with the cold, nice little ground, I once went to their old ground to watch Gainsborough Trinity
July 17, 2023 at 9:30 am #266900Ignorant question but did Hilton built Ilkeston’s current ground and does the club own it?
I know nothing about the club beyond the cup tie we played there in 98.

No & no.
July 17, 2023 at 10:37 am #266908Agreed. Good little venue to watch a game and the facilities were excellent. The pitch must be one of the best artificial surfaces around.
It’s embarrassing that both Winterton and Ilkeston have better clubhouses than the iron bar.
Good performance on the pitch too- looked more comfortable playing 4-2-3-1; Whitehall, Denton and Scales impressing

July 17, 2023 at 11:08 am #266912I don’t know who owns the Ilkeston ground but according to supporters it was in a poor state and the club had significant debts when Hilton stepped in to rescue them. Their words not mine. They became debt free, improved the ground, installed a top end 4g pitch and managed a couple of promotions under his ownership of the club.
Same again please Mr Hilton – except the 4g pitch needs to be at a training facility if we are to return to the EFL.
The Ilkeston folk don’t seem to mind that he changed his name or briefly worked as a debt collector.
There is a genuine and obvious warmth from their fans towards their previous owner. Mind you if our previous owner was to visit us many fans would like to shake him warmly by the throat.

Imagine in the future Swan returning and mingling with Iron fans ..carnage .. i wouldnt piss in his gob if his tongue was on fire!!
July 17, 2023 at 2:12 pm #266923Hi MK Iron
It was a pleasure to meet you and awaywego Saturday.
Just wished we had more time to socialise, trade our football life stories and basically enjoy a bite to eat and a few drinks.
I did of course realise you both were aware that it was not so easy with how busy it was, however I intend to come to some of Scunnys games when possible (possibly mid week evening match)… and we can meet again and have some social time swapping experiences, and considering we are of the same generation it should be an interesting exchange… that’s how I found the situation to be when mixing with Scunny supporter’s at the games I have attended, I would also like to meet pat’o’cake who posts on here, his posts are very good and think he would be good company as well
I will get us one of the boxes in the stand to watch the game if you 3(pat o cake included if he wants?) and the young lad fancy it?…. that way we can have a few beers, dine out and down watch the game at the same time…but of course I understand if you want to stay in your season ticket stands.
I am quite pleased at the many pleasant comments from an awful lot of fans who enjoyed their visit to Ilkeston across this and other forums, that is how football fans should interact before and after the game, but of course sworn enemies for the 90 mins in between, we at Ilkeston realise we are a small club and Scunthorpe are far bigger, so it our pleasure to host clubs like yourself as we did Saturday, there was a lot of banter between the supporters not only at my outlets but at the bar as well…. all good natured and not one unpleasant incident all day….. that’s nice to see.July 17, 2023 at 2:26 pm #266930Executive boxes supposed to have sold out for the season Pat unless you know someone who’s got one, but a meet up for sure then I can get you a drink.

July 17, 2023 at 2:39 pm #266933Hi awaywego and MK Iron.
(Said in fun) I know someone who has got all the boxes so think it won’t be a problem.. maybe if they are all full we can have the boardroom.
(Confident there won’t be a problem)
I will go through your fixtures later and see how they correspond with Ilkestons midweek fixtures and maybe find a suitable match?
Our fixtures throw up us at Whitby new years day, missus was not pleased about, but is now, as week have booked in a hotel for 3 days new year at whitby, she is not interested in football but is a champions league standard shopper so she is going to give Whitby a bash…me, I just hope the shops are shut!July 18, 2023 at 3:18 pm #266979Thanks for the umpteenth rehash of your “He used to be the Devil” story.
If you think Hilton has done anything illegal then take your evidence to the police and have done with it.
My only interest in David Hilton is in what he has done and intends to do as owner of our football club.
The reason I went to Ilkeston on Saturday was to judge for myself his past history and record as an owner of a football club. Everything I saw and heard in that regard was 100% positive. If that does not fit the narrative and agendas of the cult of anti Hilton I don’t give a monkeys.
July 18, 2023 at 3:24 pm #266980Bystander stick to publicly proven facts,White Hilton as fas as Bru can ascertain are the only names we know of.Anything else can be libel if untrue

July 18, 2023 at 3:26 pm #266981Strange how IB’s post got wiped, given some on Facebook claim the runners of this site (admins/mods) have an anti-Hilton agenda. This is not an argument against removing posts which may cause issues with libel, but just an observation about the claims against this site and those who run it.

July 18, 2023 at 4:01 pm #266985“and leave Scunthorpe utd to try and get to better times, without him dividing the fan base for his personal agenda.”
The same could be said for you, to be honest. At least at times. I am aware you were very hospitable at the weekend, which is commendable, but your digs and rants at anyone who isn’t so pro-Hilton is wearisome and divisive.
July 18, 2023 at 4:05 pm #266986Well Done to this site, a credit to you.
I have just seen you have taken his repeated (many, many, times) anti hilton post off…. I was wondering how it was being allowed day in day out?July 18, 2023 at 4:10 pm #266987I think you have missed the point, I don’t have any problem with people questioning Hiltons tenure, and if they actually attended games they could ask him themselves, to me it seems it is the people who don’t move far from there keyboards on match days that make the most noise… not those that spend time and money supporting thier club, the good fans I seem to bump in to at matches.
July 18, 2023 at 4:10 pm #266988I suggest you edit your cancer post too or it will be deleted, you’re just as tedious coming on here and abusing Iron fans as you have in the past is also unacceptable.David White doing so has led to death threats of our team and people’s families being threatened ,he hasn’t apologised. We moderate to our rules not who’s side your on.
July 18, 2023 at 4:13 pm #266989I have not been able to get to many matches recently for a variety of reasons (including financial). However, I don’t claim to be a ‘top fan’ better than anyone else, nor does it invalidate concerns. Either way, I will still be supporting this club when I can, no matter what, while you’d slink away if it fails. Yet you come on here and make digs about who’s a genuine fan and it doesn’t come across as accepting of others’ opinions, to me. It’s this I have issue with.

He won’t be able to edit now; the time for editing will have passed by.

If your paper boy kept pushing the same newspaper through your door.. you would stop him posting wouldn’t you?…
Maybe that’s what’s happened here?July 18, 2023 at 4:25 pm #266993Sideline… how can I possibly be abusing a Scunny fan?…. did you not read he has NOTHING to do with Scunthorpe …ask him on here, see if he answers the truth of where he is from?
July 18, 2023 at 4:25 pm #266994Where have I argued against IB’s post from being removed? It was removed because of the potential for libel and I understand why that is against forum rules.
I don’t know why you’re twisting my words to suit your agenda now. I am not referring to your beef with IB. You have repeatedly made comments which have implicated several of us on here (not just IB) as not being genuine, along with other digs. It’s this which is the issue. Such comments may have been clumsily worded, but that’s how they have come across to me.
Also, please get my username correctly, if you want to be respectful.
July 18, 2023 at 4:50 pm #266997A fair point from Pat though that most noise comes from those who don’t drift far from their keyboards S not heard a bad word about Hilton, Pat or anybody else from those who attended Saturdays game so he does have a point that shouldn’t be dismissed easily.

Your name changed because of predictive text, and I did not read before sending.. so sorry my fault for not checking.
I think you maybe are reading my texts as they are sent?, mainly because written words have little or no inflection?
I do respect you, and you are very welcome to yout opinions, they are not offensive in any way, even if I don’t agree with them all.
You have stated you do not get to so many matches and sometimes because of finances, that’s fine (and honest as well, not so many people would say that)
You are welcome to come as my guest to the next Scunthorpe match I attend, I will buy your ticket and pay your taxi there and back, and we can discuss our disagreements in a friendly manner and hopefully put them to bed…and if we don’t I will shake your hand and wish you well… up to you, I keep my word with everything.
Ps I am not so tech savvy and would have sent this as a private message if it was possible… I don’t know?… some sites you canJuly 18, 2023 at 5:02 pm #266999So to be clear,we have an Ilkeston fan telling a Bury fan to not post on here as he’s not be an Iron fan,?
Can we talk about something else and not one and other?July 18, 2023 at 5:11 pm #267000That’s a kind offer from you, Pat. It’s very good of you. I just want to clarify that I have no ill will towards you really. I have said before that your hospitability and openness on Saturday shone through. I just have a few disagreements with how reactions have been to fans on here who have disagreed with and have queries of Hilton and his ownership. It may have been miscommunication or misinterpretation, and don’t worry, I wondered if the misnaming was something like that. I just wanted to let you know really.
My financial situation is a lot better now, so I am hoping to make future games when I can. If we can have a meet one game it would be decent. Thanks again for the kind offer.
July 18, 2023 at 5:13 pm #267001Hi 64
Fair point, but in fairness to myself I have recently been attending Scunthorpe games(home and Away)
And many people like our Ilkeston fans attend Forest/Derby games as well as Ilkeston… not sure if that makes me a Scunny fan or not?… but sure makes me more qualified to post than someone who wouldn’t be able to find Scunthorpe on a map.. not a dig at you, just a valid point in my opinion. -
