Enjoyed this year’s Christmas special. Demonstrates how sea fishing or fresh water angling is as much about being out there with nature, friends, and the peace and tranquillity, as catching a whopper. Though a 100lb cod would be nice one day. Would love to get out in a boat and try that. So expensive though. I’ll make do with my roach, bream and the occasional carp for now.

Didn’t pick up that you like a bit of fishing, Deerey. Me too. Just occasionally, though not too often, we seem to find a bit of common ground. :)

Yes, wish I could find time to go more often. Not so easy still working full time. Limited trips are restricted to commercial fisheries for me, but I miss a bit of river and canal fishing i used to do when I was much younger. Still, nice to get out for the odd trip, particularly early summer when they’re feeding well. Do you get to rivers and canals yourself JI?

Two or three times a year ..just squeeze value on my pensioners rod licence. Mainly catch perch on maggot or worm on free stretches of the Leeds-Liverpool canal.Occasionally on the Wharfe near Otley or the Nidd at Knaresborough … one or two tasty trout there last year.My wife loves all the peripheral stuff on Gone Fishing … scenery, banter, philosophising, cooking whilst I also get the bonus of the fishing.
Have you come across The Ginger Fisherman on You Tube? I love a quick 20 or 30 mins with him from time to time.

JI-“My wife loves all the peripheral stuff on Gone Fishing-scenery,banter,philosophising,cooking,whilst I get the bonus of the fishing”
Has your wife worked out what is the difference between you and the person who is NOT a Christian. You trusted Christ as your Saviour and they did not.
    What made the difference?
Is it something in you, something in them,is it something God did?
What is it,what is the difference? What is the difference between you and the person who did not choose?
Maybe your wife and your good self can give this some philosophical thought the next time you’re on the river bank?

I see someone else is trying a different kind of fishing.

Like the sound of that JI. Particularly the trout. As I mentioned, mainly commercial fisheries for me, on sweetcorn more than maggot. No more trips for me till Spring. No close season on the commercials which gives more opportunities on the hoof, weather permitting of course.

I may try a bit of Winter perch fishing on the canal. Perhaps fancying a go on the Aire sometime in early Spring before the river season closes.
IA … mainly on the canal stretch from Rodley towards Apperley Bridge/ Bradford If you know it. Occasionally on the Kirkstall stretch. Only go a handful of times each year .. mainly to escape Bill’s compulsion to set my doctrine right.

Hey,your intelligence, correct choice, existentialistic “leap of faith” must give you great pride. Shame your next door neighbour who hates God doesn’t have your same disposition!

Know it I certainly do JI, our daughter lives in Rodley and when we stay over we stroll the canal section quite a bit. Small world isn’t it, we often have a few beers at the Rodley Barge, sitting outside by the canal watching the swans and boats go by, a lovely place. Enjoy your fishing and I can recommend the beer in the pub.

Next time you come IA … if you see a tall, balding but extremely good looking guy casting his line then stop and say hello. :)

Sounds a lot like me, there maybe a mirror on the canal bank JI, nice one.
