    Cue:
“We can’t stand in the lad’s way. He’s going to a bigger club/higher league/ someone who will offer more than 50p and a half sucked toffee”.

What should we offer him? And where should that money come from?

I’d love to know what “monitoring” actually means. Classic tabloid speak!

Correct Alcy. Not a lot can be done of he’s out of contract.

I’d just like to know that we’ve offered him the very best deal that it is humanly possible to put together in these straitened times for small clubs.
Whatever that figure might be should have made him the highest paid player.

Agree with that Les. Best and most consistent footballer at the club.

If we have any ambition to mount a promotion challenge next season we should happily make him the best paid player and try our best to hold on to him. If not we should let him go with our thanks to play at a higher level – with a player of the season trophy tucked under his arm.

With our budget limits now set a lot lower then when the Chairman first arrived then whatever we have offered Gilliead, even our best offer under difficult circumstances, won’t be anything what a club like Ipswich can offer. When he looks around their ground, set up and overall history compared to ours then that will be another contributing factor. He’s a typical player we have on our books, bring on and improve then let go to bigger and better things, it’s just life in the lower leagues, you all should be aware by now so stop talking bollocks alcy.

When talking about “we” or “we’ve”, are we really meaning Swanny, so easy to spend other people’s money.

Apologies for repeating what I said on another thread but much depends on what motivates a player. If it’s purely money then undoubtedly we’re doomed. Gilliead was not a regular starter for Shrewsbury in L1, has he improved – probably, but standards and aspirations will be higher at Ipswich so will he play regularly? He’s a certain starter here and might(?) be settled so let’s hope we can make him a good enough offer so that regular football tips the balance in our favour. Not holding my breath.

Sensible? Your post is not worthy of a sensible response.

Footballers move to clubs in a higher division and for higher wages. Happens to all clubs at all levels. Get over it!!

    Lol.
We either have ambition…or we haven’t.
If it’s the latter, what’s the point of Swann and Co?
You know, the guy the *** lickers all big up as being club saviour?
What’s he bringing to the club?
    Know our place?
Because if that’s the extent of it, he needs to get gone.

That could also apply to Mr Gilliead himself!

I can’t see him staying. As somebody said further up in the thread, he’s simply too good for us and league two.

In times like this, if I was him I’d jump at the chance to move higher up for more money. Who in the right mind wouldn’t ?

Don’t forget he’s currently playing in a team that more often that not fails to even have a single shot on target, which seems like every other game we play.

Cox is not far off being a carbon copy of Wilcox….both would put a glass eye to sleep.

Working in a positive manner in training doesn’t count for much when their manager goes into “self preservation mode” and goes ultra negative when it comes to match day outings.

I worry for us next season..most of the current quality will be gone and we’ll have Neil “Handbrake Firmly on” Cox in charge.

I don’t know about face masks for next season, I’d throw eye masks in as well as a requirement. I can’t see people putting up with that crap.

I have said before I think Russ is a big influence in tactics, this style of play is typical Russ cautious football.

When you consider what players Cox inherited as far as team selection is concerned there were too many not even good enough for league2 so whatever tactics Cox decided on did he have the quality of players to play to his instructions – I don’t think so ?

I’m still a fan of picking your best 10 outfield players and playing a system that suits them rather than having a system and trying to fit players into it.

So the players aren’t good enough to perform under ultra negative tactics with the team failing to hit more than 1 shot on target in 9 games this season ?

    I don’t understand what you’re implying.

Cox’s is sending them out like that. Tom Newey has said numerous times when commentating about the hand brake been on.

    That’s Cox’s doing.

Likely hood is we aren’t going down or going up. Struggled against a shite Crawly side, instead of sticking Olomola on in a bid to change it up a bit and maybe stick Eisa out wide for Green, he floods the midfield in a bid to get a foothold and puts the already struggling Loft upfront on his own.

That’s not a player problem. That’s a manager mindset problem. I suspect Cox is just naturally very cautious.
