CB on loan till the end of the season. 27 years old. Left Footed. Expect Cordner to go back now?
January 7, 2021 at 12:23 pm #200388Big unit, but can play a bit too. Saw him a few times for the Leicester development side when I was at uni. He was one of about three or four that came through under Sven at the time. Should help with our set piece woes. Quite pleased with this one.
January 7, 2021 at 12:46 pm #200390January 7, 2021 at 1:05 pm #200391Wasn’t he President of the United States?
January 7, 2021 at 1:38 pm #200392No, an actor back in the 40’s I think.
January 7, 2021 at 1:55 pm #200393That was George Raft Cass surely you remember, anyway seems a good signing a striker now please
January 7, 2021 at 2:23 pm #200397TAFT is a hazardous player. This pass indicates why he fell out of favour at Bolton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMow_lZ2rOM
January 7, 2021 at 2:43 pm #200398A bit harsh over one pass, the pass by number 44 that led to the second goal was worse, also he put in a good forward pass in that clip as well.
January 7, 2021 at 2:47 pm #200399He’ll be Ok here, if we stopped picking players who made a serious error we wouldn’t be able to field eleven.
January 7, 2021 at 2:58 pm #200400Wasn’t he President of the United States?
William Taft, USA President ( 1909-1913 ). George Raft, Hollyword actor famous for his gangster roles in the 1930’s ( bit like Trump is famous for now in real life ) George Taft, footballer currently on loan at Scunthorpe United, where fans have fingers crossed more in hope then expectation that he will be any good. Personally I would have taken a punt on the dead actor.😂
January 7, 2021 at 3:07 pm #200401MORE signings?
January 7, 2021 at 3:10 pm #200403My contact at Bolton says he is a good player that has not been given a chance. Seems been told he doesn’t fit the new system but he hasn’t had an opportunity in it !!
Matt Dean asked MIRF about him – MIRF rates him so thats good enough for me.
January 7, 2021 at 3:14 pm #200404I looked on their forum and someone said the same sanfran, not been given a chance, he looked impressive when he came here with Cambridge last season if I remember right.
January 7, 2021 at 3:25 pm #200407He played a lot of games for Cambridge, Bolton offer maybe swayed him that he was going up the leagues.
Doesn’t always work out as we have seen – Hakeeb a good example.
January 7, 2021 at 4:17 pm #200410As he is left sided if might mean someone has come in for bedeau and taft is the replacement.
January 7, 2021 at 5:02 pm #200417As he is left sided if might mean someone has come in for bedeau and taft is the replacement.
100-200k and a future sell on clause and someone can take him.
January 7, 2021 at 5:56 pm #200421As he is left sided if might mean someone has come in for bedeau and taft is the replacement.
100-200k and a future sell on clause and someone can take him.
I won’t write him off yet but for anything over 100k and we’d be foolish to decline.
Can’t recall seeing Taft before but glad to see Cox has recognised the need for a new centre back.
January 7, 2021 at 7:26 pm #200425From what I’ve seen Cambridge fans have nothing but good words for him. Let’s hope he hits the ground running as we sure do need a boost right about now!
January 7, 2021 at 10:27 pm #200437Centre back makes a mistake! Here’s another “hazardous player” who is not good enough for the Iron.
January 7, 2021 at 11:53 pm #200439I doubt Cordner will be sent back until Onariase and McGahey are fit. I think they’re due back in a few weeks time.
I think Bedeau will be moved on as well once those two are back and Barks will more than likely take his place.
If we can move Butroid and Hallam on as well and get a few strikers in, we’ll be a lot better for it. One on loan and one permanent initially until end of the season will do.
January 8, 2021 at 4:02 am #200441Optimistic, WG.
I’ll settle for just a one trick pony – somebody who can hold the ball up to lay off to those moving forward.
If that person could score a few too – that would be seriously nice.I’m not sure even that will happen. Hope to be proved wrong!
January 8, 2021 at 9:11 am #200443Whilst we have KVV, Loft, Jarvis, Olomola and KDT on the books it’s hard to see anything but a short term loan to cover the injuries. It might be different if we could move a couple on but Olomola is crocked and, based on what we’ve seen so far, getting somebody to take Jarvis and KDT will be, shall we say, ‘difficult’.
January 8, 2021 at 9:21 am #200444Credit where its due – two good signings. Hopefully the sheer folly of previous transfer strategy has been discarded. These feel like the experienced people needed to bring on others. A dream window would include a striker who can contribute a few goals because loft is never in the correct position and Jarvis is worse. Like most on here certainly need to shift out 3 or 4 more players.
January 8, 2021 at 10:12 am #200446We might have to take a risk with sending Cordner back (assuming we even can) don’t think we’ll be able to wait till McGahey and Onarise are fully fit as I believe loans can only be terminated during the transfer window now.
Same with the short term loan suggestion Cass. I don’t think they exist anymore. Fairly sure according to fifa rules all loans must start and end during a transfer window so it’d have to be a loan till the end of the season.
January 8, 2021 at 10:32 am #200447Thanks, wasn’t aware of that. Reckon we’re k*******d then.
January 8, 2021 at 10:37 am #200448Emergency loans to cover key positions (eg if both first team keepers are crocked) are still allowed.
Not sure if having four crap forwards counts as an emergency in the EFL’s book!
January 8, 2021 at 1:19 pm #200457Season longs= loans I do believe have a ‘jan window’ return clause available. I think the matter as raised by lower division clubs if injury issues hit heavily in other groups.
Regarding Cordner, it may be we have to return him to enable recruitment within the budget. For CB cover we have Bedeau, Butroid and Rowe have played that position, Jordan Clarke as well. Plus for a couple of games at a time I would happily put Charlie Barks in.
Charlie has played in the U23s against very experienced CBs and he does fine. It wouldn’t phase him.
January 8, 2021 at 4:30 pm #200465I wouldn’t class Butroid as adequate LB cover let alone CB!!
January 8, 2021 at 9:20 pm #200498Stamp, we’ll have to wait a few weeks till both Mcgahey and Onariase are back and send Cordner back, bit risky but if they come back in say 10 days time and get some training under their belts, we should be fine to send him back.
If anybody would want Bedeau, I’d be tempted to move him on as well. As said on here yesterday, you can tell he has a bit of quality to him but he’s forever switching off during games, his concentration is what let’s him down, he’s a bit too error prone and slack for my liking.
I don’t think the style of his play suits this league, he likes a bit of time on the ball to carry the ball out from the back but you can’t really do that at this level…simply don’t have time.
A poster said he’s a poor man’s John Stones and they’re spot on…just don’t think he fits this league.
Taft, Onariase, Mcgahey and Barks…we’ll more than likely have enough at CB.
If we can move on Butroid, Bedeau and Dales and send Cordner back…we might have enough in the piggy bank for two strikers till end of the season.
That’s the one position we’re screwed in.
January 13, 2021 at 2:31 pm #200786Decent debut last night, however he has a harsh lesson to learn if this quote from his post match interview is anything to go by.
“There are 24 games to go and we’ve got to go into every game and try to win.”
He’s clearly not been here long enough to appreciate the limit of the manager’s ambition.
