I asked Mike White yesterday had he heard anything from George lately and he said according to his son he hasn’t been very well, but has promised to inform me if he gets any news updates, I hope you all wish George well with any recovery.

talking of Radio Humberside for anyone listening how did the young man Ollie do on commentary with Tom Newey, I said to Tom you have a new lad to train up then, I think with those three that was more than there were reporters at the game.

He did a confident interview with the manager after the game. Is he a Kentish man or a man of Kent ? He agreed that the end of the season can’t come quickly enough for Kent CCC, so poor recently. UTWI

just remember barrie, you support Kent, I support Hampshire, we have won a Trophy this season, he did sound good coming home but wondered how he did on commentary.

Both very good. Ollie good with the commentary and then tom excellent with his professional experience.

I really hoped we might have moved on from Tom Newey this season.

nothing wrong with Tom, at least Radio Humberside hasn’t deserted us, unlike a certain paper.

I agree, I think Tom offers some intelligent insight and is much better than other expert summarisers, you can also tell he’s a teacher… Something studious about him.

I do miss George though and hope he finds better health.

Each to their own but I find Newey’s commentary really hard work, he might know his stuff but he doesn’t put it away in a particularly interesting or entertaining way. I also don’t like his approach to referees – he’s a bit old school and confuses what the laws of the game are with what he wants them to be.

Still, each to their own, hope you enjoy listening to him.

I used to enjoy listening to George when he waited for a gap in commentary and was asked to comment. Latterly he interrupted commentary unasked, often to tell a story about something that happened to him years ago. We ended up with about 60 minutes commentary and 30 minutes of George’s memories. I wish you well George but Tom is doing the job properly now.
