April 22, 2024 at 11:46 am #284351A tragedy. Could mean an exodus of their better players as will things alter for next season should they be in the play-offs or better..
April 22, 2024 at 12:17 pm #284353Won’t we have the same problem when we next win promotion or make the playoffs from division 1.

I hope to still be around to see the div 1 bit ..

Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead has a population of around 200,000 yet home attendances are between 600 and 1,000. 879 v Chesterfield earlier this month. Hello!
So only 0.5% of the population can be arsed to go along. They’re all Mags anyway. Sooner pull on their black and white striped shirts and spend Saturday afternoon in the pub than pay to go to the International Stadium.
Proper Mickey Mouse club!

Agreed, it doesn’t matter if there’s five hundred, fifty, or five of them, the die-hards have been shafted. Dare to dream, but prepare to awake with a start.

Thats bad comment (maybe a tad bias i dont know) Gateshead obviously have a way better football team than most in the league above the mighty Iron .. as a football team they deserve the right to progress regardless how many fans they have ..
Boo Boo the local Council.. who ever it iz

The council’s so financially cash-strapped they need to sell the stadium – like virtually every council in the country their budget has been cut and cut and cut over the last 14 years to the point that they can’t afford basic services, nevermind valuable community facilities. The real story here is how communities & society have been so royally shafted in the last 14 years. And maybe also why the EFL felt the need to have such a hard & fast rule – especially given the unusual circumstances and the fact the club has played there for more than 40 years….

April 24, 2024 at 7:08 pm #284453Its not true at all, read what the council have said.
They are looking for new partners to run the stadium complex not selling the stadium at all, so it will be up to the new partners to agree a lease and at what cost.
Why not Tory aren’t the Labour council outsourcing the asset out to a private company.April 25, 2024 at 11:59 am #284468They still need to get it off their books due to a huge budget shortfall because Tory central government are not supplying enough funding to local authorities like them to cover Covid costs, rising social care and cost of living etc. More truth in that than your attempt on another thread to blame the Labour council for this situation.
April 25, 2024 at 2:35 pm #284471Should never have gone on their books in the first place, a white elephant in the wrong part of the country British athletics soon ditched them they just couldn’t pull in the crowds so moved to other stadia, sad really the pole vote pit was full of weeds and grass when we went up there what a waste, in all honesty it needs bulldozing and the land sold on.
It is the councils fault they could choose to bring it back inhouse but they chose not to, all I have pointed out is our council, government aren’t that nasty bogie man, for us at least. Funded the steel plant in administration for over a year and helped buy the ground for us all.
Just ask yourself which council looks more like a labour council. Or would you rather a labour council and government being in power and us without a ground or steelworks.April 25, 2024 at 3:53 pm #284475Allowing for inflation my Labour council spent £78mn building a stadium, the opposition party called it a white elephant. During the building process the opposition party (Libdums) won power, and the two faced bint that called it a white elephant had the brass neck to actually officially open it. Hey ho, as ever any passing bandwagon will do for the Libdums.
April 25, 2024 at 6:30 pm #284485Funny how posters on here care more than the people of Gateshead!
April 25, 2024 at 6:36 pm #284486Hardly surprising when less than 1%of the population go to watch the games, not everyone wants to pay for something they rarely use.
