As we are all aware there will be a lot of money saving next season! With that in mind thought I would look more closely at the opposition players from now on with all teams still to play again.
Today thought chorleys no7 and no33 Johnson I think look good and in no 7’s case as good as if not better then we have for a midfield player that gets forward, these players will be on half or even less then then we have now so Would be worth a punt IMO
December 17, 2023 at 1:31 am #278220IF get promoted i would hope JD has noted quite a few players in this league to snaffle ..the baldy Buxton left right back was impressive to name one… re Buxton coming up next i believe would hope the players are well up for it being as they have kicked our arse twice at home already this season.
Question .. whats happened to Jenkins ?? injured , out of favour or did i miss hes gone back to parent club.

December 17, 2023 at 8:44 am #278221It looked like Jenkins, and Wilson, were having some kind of fitness test during the warm up before the game.
December 17, 2023 at 9:15 am #278222Think Jenkins has a non cancellable loan unless seriously injured.
December 17, 2023 at 9:37 am #278223Ar ok .. its possible Wilson and Jenkins may find it hard to get into the starting line up as their positions are some what well covered .. and thats with DSF out on loan n playing very well by all accounts. Competition for places is good and some will possibly get a bit peed off.
December 17, 2023 at 9:49 am #278225Jenkins looks a decent prospect but was obviously brought in to cover for Clunan’s injury.
He is not going to break into the holy trinity that is our midfield so will probably be heading back to Leeds in a couple of weeks.
Might have been just the circumstances of the particular games but the last couple of times Wilson has come on Jimmy has put him in midfield rather than wide or up front. Don’t see him as a midfielder myself but Jimmy might have a masterplan.
At the start of the season we were complaining about having too many midfield players. Now if Jenkins does go back we look very light for cover.
Only really Shrimpton as Jimmy seems to see Beestin as a wide forward.
December 17, 2023 at 9:58 am #278227is it likely we will see Connor Smith going back to Scotland in January
December 17, 2023 at 10:05 am #278228Some players will get a run out in the Micky mouse trophy at Gainsborough on Tuesday.
December 17, 2023 at 11:50 am #278232Hopefully no serious injuries in that one.
December 17, 2023 at 1:28 pm #278238Well Mr Dean has been informed about next seasons playing budget. Then you would hope we have been assessing opponents players with a view to future recruitment.
Then other teams players may see a greater opportunity of promotion to a higher league in the Claret & Blue. There again some players from a higher level may just be looking for a club ! James Chester ex Hull City in prem. had an injury marred season at Derby, got released only Barrow gave him a chance on a short term deal until Jan 2024 ! They will not be big payers so they will be out there.
December 17, 2023 at 1:35 pm #278239If we do get promoted, build a team of NLN players you’ll end up being a NLN team again. Just look at the teams promoted last season there are no shortcuts.

December 17, 2023 at 2:04 pm #278242How many of this years squad are on two year deals?. Could we not build around them?.

Agreed; overall the quality in this league is very poor. A big drop off in quality from the national league as the game against Solihull demonstrated .
December 17, 2023 at 2:55 pm #278246I used to love these ‘worth a punt’ threats in the glory years. The fact that player recruitment is a topic for active discussion shows things are on the up.
December 17, 2023 at 2:56 pm #278247Threads not threats …. Where’s the edit option gone ?!

I think that contracted for next season are:-
Whitehall, Kelly, Fitzsimons, Kouogan, Roberts and Law.
Butterfield has said he’s happy to stay but I guess it would have to be on reduced terms. Needs negotiating if possible.December 17, 2023 at 4:10 pm #278249If Butterfield has said he’s prepared to stay, the club should do everything in their power to achieve that. He just needs an arse kicker in midfield to win the ball and give it to him and we have witnessed enough of his magic this season to know what happens next. Yesterday he probably did a little too much in beating around six players, went round in circles a bit mind you, to try to get an angle for a shot then ended up getting a booking, which I thought was bit harsh, for a foul. His football brain, quick feet and ball striking are powerful assets at non league level and would probably mesmerise most defences in league two.

You can’t assess the quality of a player on a single performance.
December 17, 2023 at 7:59 pm #278252…..or being Geoge Weah’s cousin?

December 17, 2023 at 8:15 pm #278253No but you can have them watched for the rest of the season
December 18, 2023 at 3:44 pm #278279Future players – nice to think about. But the first thing the board have to do is make sure the club actually has a future.
Great to see so many doing bits to help, the fans are involved again. I popped down to the shop got another beanie, mug and a few other bits. But as I say stability is the priority.

December 18, 2023 at 4:33 pm #278281For me, next season (24-25) is all about securing a mid table spot in the NL and ensuring that we start 2025-26 in the stated league.
Let’s not chase a quick return to the EFL. We need to be debt free and a self sustaining business before we go chasing promotion to L2.
I’d prefer a few seasons in the NL and the club having no financial hangovers than running up debts chasing a dream too soon.
Same squad will do me for next season.
We need to galvanise a team where the output is greater than the sum of its parts. We need a Wimbledon type mentality in the coming seasons, both on and off the pitch.

December 18, 2023 at 7:26 pm #278291Sensible points, the club is nowhere near out the woods yet and I believe it will many years before we witness EFL football at GP.
The squad will surely have to be trimmed come the summer, with the best will in the world we cannot support the wages some of the lads are supposedly on.
Like Rene states, we need to be launching an EFL return on a sound footing. That means: no debt, larger crowds, and income from other streams. Plenty of work to be done, but im optimistic about the future with the current regime.

December 18, 2023 at 9:40 pm #278295My point is these players are probably on considerably less money then the players we have now but look equally as good.
December 20, 2023 at 2:21 pm #278316Michelle and her team know what they must do and I have no doubt the supporters will support the decisions made.
