I have a sneaking suspicion that Michelle’s looking at Butler thinking “Why the hell did I offer him that extension!” and is reluctant to give him any more spending money.
I know we need it, but why waste money on players for him to sign when he’s fecked the squad up to the extent he has ?. Not only that, there will be serious doubts about him due to the last couple of months performances, or shall I say, lack thereof.
I cant quite believe we’ve ended up with 7 Central Midfielders, 2 wide players “1 of which should have been let go last season due to never being fit” and only two recognized strikers. Carlton was brought in as a striker, but has played most of his career on the wing and I still say Beestin is better in midfield.
Basically leaves us with Whitehall and an untried Fishburn who will need time to develop.
When you take into consideration just what a state this squad is in, would you give him any more money to sign more players ?
What if Michelle give him money to sign 2 or 3 more players and he ends up signing absolute dross and then get’s fired 3 or 4 games later ?
November 7, 2024 at 9:52 am #293242Loans just till xmas? Should have had short term loans pre Scarborough and now be looking at extending them if they were any good.
Certainly could have signed one permanent player with the salary of the catering manager gone begging, it doesn’t look as there looking at replacing him.November 7, 2024 at 10:13 am #293245Might have swapped a catering manager for a CEO. Agree about short term loans though, how risky can that be financially and, as you say, extend if effective.
Butler must have some input though, no point Turnbull getting another Youmbi and wasting time and money.November 7, 2024 at 10:26 am #293252I know people think this is harsh what I’m about to say but Turnbull has been living off his past exploits of signing Sharp, keogh e.t.c years before. Who’s he brought in post Sharp, Keogh who’s been any good ?
All we keep doing is keeping him in the background involved when he’s had a hand in signing absolute dross for previous failed managers. Sorry it’s just not good enough.
This fascination with keeping people because “they’re part of the furniture & bleed claret and blue has to stop”. I’d much rather have somebody here in an advisory role when it comes to signings who knows this level particularly and what it takes to get out of it.
All the times we’ve tried this it’s worked with Adkins, no more.

So why does he play the two who look like Under 11s playing for the 6th Form team?
Who are your seven WG? Am I missing someone?

More likely that if and when they do spend, it will be at the last possible moment. Bet-hedging. See how far we can get with what we’ve already got, just in case that is far enough.

I totally get where you’re coming from. But I’m pretty sure Lee Turnbull’s role involves a bit more than sitting in a corner chewing a Scotch egg that’s gone beyond it’s best before, and occasionally getting a text from a scout and signing a player. He does know the workings of the club intimately – better than anyone else I expect, and particularly in terms of the player experience – and the insight there is probably a valuable bridge for prospective signings.

November 7, 2024 at 3:38 pm #293290I concur
November 7, 2024 at 3:40 pm #293291Putting all that to one side apollo, we still have somebody here in the background involved when he seemingly keeps signing dross for previous failed managers.
No doubt he does other work at the club, but personally I’d rather we had a clean break and taken a fresh route.
November 7, 2024 at 4:44 pm #293304You can’t be to harsh when it comes to Turnbull WG, talked the talk but when it came down to backing the fans or just keeping quiet as he could have done under Swanny he through them under the bus instead, moves matches when not needed new year this season others previous, plus the main obvious one the recruitment this season.
November 7, 2024 at 5:30 pm #293308Butler just on Humberside confirming he has the final say on recruitment and doesn’t sign players he doesn’t want.
Admitted the squad needs expanding but only with players that are ready for the first team. Seemed to discount loanees certainly young ones.

It’s a month too late so far on signings needed so they need to get their finger out.
As for LT when was the last gem he unearthed?
Rob Jones :o)I’m sure he does a grand job for the club in other areas though.
November 7, 2024 at 5:51 pm #293314If none out there are good to start, even more reason to get some in asap to get them up to speed asap. Could leave it another month and still no one materialising, then we’re in an even worse place. That’s my logic anyways. You won’t get this high level of wisdom on the Facebook Group, I tells ye!

How much did we squander on him?
November 7, 2024 at 5:58 pm #293320The days of unearthing gems are long gone for most smaller clubs . I’ve found it incredible how many people I know with kids have them signed on or training with clubs .It’s this scattergun approach by bigger clubs that is skilling the chance for the Iron to unearth someone . It’s sad for the kids too as they have little chance of signing terms for these clubs and then leave football disillusioned when maybe they could have had careers lower down. When we left School two lads went to SUFC ,one made the 1st team. Now it seems all kids are at clubs

November 7, 2024 at 5:59 pm #293322Don’t know RB. He was a bit static and the same diameter from head to toe from memory
November 7, 2024 at 6:04 pm #293325Was thinking about Andy Stephenson a while back.
A bit of his bite wouldn’t go amiss in this team.
Can’t remember who we were playing when he got sent off to them walk behind the goal at the away end and goad the travelling supporters. Priceless1 user thanked author for this post.

November 7, 2024 at 7:58 pm #293332That was when we had the steel fence up, I reckon it was York, though I may be mistaken. Good times back then
November 7, 2024 at 8:00 pm #293333Denton is not the player I was watching in early Autumn 2023.
November 7, 2024 at 8:04 pm #293334Andy Stevenson I presume you’re talking about, he would be brilliant for us now, used to see him at games, was a big supporter as well
November 7, 2024 at 9:12 pm #293340With a ‘V’, of course.

Yep York it was.
Another one never to shirk a challenge Glen Humphries had twins Ronnie & Reggie.
Played with him and flopper at NFU.

I must admit he doesn’t really look like a wing back, does he ?. Barrows has done fairly well on the right hand side, but Denton doesn’t get forward enough and is too passive.
