Play to the whistle is one of the big expectations of the game ,Fim Shrimpton spent time arguing with the ref while they waltzed up and scored , totally unprofessional. If he’s frustrated at his lack of opportunities he should look in the mirror and ask himself why
The whole spine of that team is shocking and sloppy .They have to slow the pace in order to control the ball down to make a pass which is ridiculous and when they try to speed up the play the passes are misplaced. This for a full time outfit is a joke. As soon as Spenny put us under pressure on the ball we crumbled. No composure at all.
lastly our squad is too small and lacking quality, not just on the bench but in key positions

    Professionals! Pffff.

Awful performance and from the games I have managed to take in we are no better than the majority in the league.

    The league is anyone’s!

When our two central midfielders are built like Victorian street urchins putting us under pressure isn’t difficult.

How many more bumps before anything changes – same players doing the same things getting the same results and yet they are picked week after week. As Butler signed the players who are who not getting in or stepping up when they do – then what was he doing wasting the little money we have? We are a big club in this league – sadly the players don’t match the billing. And at present neither does the manager.

Irrespective of what formation is played, you cannot afford to grant huge amounts of space to the opposition.
My mate came around last night and couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
Spennymoor often had 15 yards of space when one of their guys was on the ball. That means that you can basically do whatever you like.
When more than one player has this amount of space – the opposition can make hay whether or not the sun is shining.
I think that our chances of ending this season in the top half are very poor.
You clearly cannot play football this feeble and expect to make any progress whatsoever.

I thought the question was why are we full time professionals.
If we went part time, we would be able to attract the best part time players with the funds available. We would be a massive attraction to the best part time player. If this is what we get with full time players, then part time(at this moment in time ,is the way to go,in my opinion.

Our squad is too small with no quality options. A legacy from paying off debts the previous owner refused to pay despite buying the club for a nominal fee

Somehow new season momentum got us to the top of the table early on – but we’re probably now seeing a far truer ‘state of the nation’ picture, and it looks like we’re in big trouble.

Carlton is not a centre forward – and anyway, is still off the pace. Fishburn is undercooked. Beestin is needed in midfield. Whitehall has an injury.
Not even a remnant forward line remains.
No weight in CM. This means that the CBs are now having to suffer ever more pressure when not properly covered from midfield.
On top of all this we continue to play with a badly failing formation.

If we go part time how are we going to attract players to take that left or right turn for the M180 especially to come and train twice a week, or are we just going for local lads.
Whatever you think of Hilton it was a good idea of his to move the training to the Midlands and his reasons behind it then only travel here for match days, then we could go part time.

Never in a million years. Not going in to the detail of the reasons why not again are we? He’s gone thank goodness so it’s irrelevant anyway now.

Part-timers who can actually control a ball with the first touch would be a bonus ! Never seen so many players in one team who are totally incapable of:-

    – controlling a football
    – passing a football (ideally to a team mate!)
    – heading a football (either in attack or defence)
    – shielding a football (arms, back, or arse – any will do!)
    – hoofing a football as quickly and as far as possible when the need arises (and it does !)

I have no idea what the advantages are of this squad being full time other than the ego massage they all have of being able to say “professional footballer”. Pity they don’t behave like that !

Last night’s awful performance and this morning’s Trump victory have really set me up for a baaaaaaad day :-(

Perhaps do a reverse MK Dons and move to London. Huge catchment area for players. Fans would only have to travel once a fortnight. Sorted. Doh!

The flaw in your argument is part time players, generally, will be unwilling to travel far for matches and training. Therefore, we’ll be restricted to signing players from the immediate area

Our squad is too small with no quality options

Including Beestin and Braithwaite who’s on dual registration with Gainsborough, we have 7 central midfielders. That is bonkers in any squad size, but especially one of this size. Butler has caused this problem.

One thing we do lack so size and strength in CM which is bizarre when we have Beestin and Brogan who are both robust enough for this level. I’ve never seen Brogan barged off the ball after coming off the subs bench and Beestin is strong enough. Clunan would be fine in a sitter in a midfield 3 with say Brogan and Beestin, but Scales should be nowhere near CM.

I’d play scales out wide before playing him in CM. Scales played best for us when he played right wing back so not such a far stretch to move him a bit further up the pitch.

Agree. It was odd that we had so many midfielders in on trial (and subsequently signed 3) when the need for at least one (preferably two) seasoned wingbacks has been glaringly obvious to everyone other than Turnbull and Butler since pre-season.

Perhaps it was a scattergun approach in an attempt to replace Butterfield. But what we’ve ended up with is 3 very average midfielders instead of one quality one.

I saw a comment on X or FB (memory fails me) recently that suggested we’ve gone for quantity over quality. Maybe we would have been better served bringing in one proven striker from the division above rather than both Carlton and Fishburn. Perhaps one decent midfielder would have been better than Brogan and Rowley, who both can’t make the team. Appreciate there’s squad numbers that we need to meet but with the ability to dip into the loan market for emergency injury cover maybe the poster has a point.

Suggested Scales would be good at RWB a few times but Roberts aside Barrows is the player who has adapted quickest and best to Butlers formation.

Denton is still like a fish out of water and only one of our 4 centre backs can successfully pass the ball more than 10 yards and he’s injured.

Whatever you think about our midfield or forwards our inability to play Butlers formation start with the back line. Nothing against Boyce and Kouogan. They are very decent back four defenders at this level as they showed many times last season. Denton was probably in the top 3 players for the club last season playing as a full back. None of them have the attributes to play this system. As for Nicholson we cannot keep playing someone who sends simple passes direct to the feet of opposition 3 or 4 times every game.

I refuse to join the Butler out hysteria whilst the team is top of the league but would remind him of the old definition of insanity. Keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.

Find a system that suits the players you have or go find the players that would make your system work.

At a bare minimum this would need:

A centre back with pace that can pass the ball
A centre midfield player who relishes the fight and can win aerial challenges
A right sided wingback with some pace and purpose
A forward that can play with Whitehall

That team would win this league at a canter barring serious injuries. Imagine how bad we could be if Beestin and/or Roberts pick up significant injuries.

7 midfielders in our squad and he plays two defenders in there (sometimes 3 when, bizarrely Evans sits in there).

I can’t believe we have no loans here. Maybe we can’t afford part of the wages, something isn’t right.
Butler seemed to be struggling in that interview

It is a tad strange that whilst other clubs are finding and bringing in new players it appears for whatever reason we cant ….are we even trying to source any of the obvious positions we need to strengthen. Ive never known the club drag its feet re loan signings as they are now and IMO its imperative it happens and quick.
So so lucky still to be top its mind boggling after such a poor run of results and add to that all the top sides loosing which probably won happen again.

I wish we would sign Dec Howe … just to stop Rene posting 55555555
