Never came for a cross all game which is the way Mussy has coached every keeper under his care. Foster seems to have the attributes to progress but, in order to maximise his opportunities, either he or Mussy needs to move on. My preference should be obvious.
Maybe under instruction from Mussie, Foster was expected to let the CBs clear if that was possible – and he was not to come out unless they were unlikely to win the header.
Dunno. Just casting around for an explanation.
Gone are the days where a good keeper would come and catch a ball skittling his fellow defenders in the process.Even punch balls that are heading for their bodies, too frightened to get hurt
Your right SDO101, seen quite a lot of punching rather then catching the ball in this World Cup, even so called top class international goalkeepers seem to have been coached in this way. Seems daft punching a ball you should comfortably catch, must be a confidence thing or it’s drilled into them ” don’t risk dropping the ball just punch it away “.
Same for shots which used to be caught but are now palmed away. If punching away crosses has to be the method at least the keepers are dealing with them rather than the Mussy way. Watch and wait and then look to save the shot/header that comes in because the cross wasn’t dealt with.
How many keepers now push it back out to a strikers path. Unheard of years ago. Push it out for a corner. Not rocket science
I think we can safely say that keepers ain’t what they used to be!
