I think it was WG who mentioned on another thread how virtually all of the players we have loaned out to other clubs in this division have flourished:
– Tom Pugh @ Hereford
– Fin Shrimpton @ Spennymoor
– Marcus Carver @ Southport
– Sembie-Ferris @ Peterborough Sports
– Even Bennett @ Southport has got 5 in 17 appearancesI can’t think of any flops, of any players who’ve struggled to get a game, they seem to all have been a hit. So is this just a reflection of the strength of our squad? The simple fact being that we can only pick 11 players each week and you’re bound to have some good players missing out? Or does it reflect poorly on our manager who has either been unable to get the best out of them or, perhaps worse, has decided they’re not good enough?
March 12, 2024 at 3:40 pm #282670Not this division, but Poulter at Cleggy?
Maybe that’s the plan. Get ‘em all back in April and piss the play-offs!
March 12, 2024 at 3:42 pm #282671I left him off deliberately, was focussing only on the players who’ve been loaned out in the same division, a more like-for-like comparison.
Can we loan anyone to Tamworth?
March 12, 2024 at 3:51 pm #282672Leave out Whitehall/Elliott and play Carver/Bennett – no thanks.
Leave out Butterfield/Beestin/Scales and play Pugh/Shrimpton – no thanks.
Leave out a fit Roberts and play DSF – no thanks.
We have better players, Hereford, Southport,Spennymoor & Sports don’t.2 users thanked author for this post.
March 12, 2024 at 3:53 pm #282673The squad has always been strong. I’d also suggest Dean and the coaching team have failed to get the best out of them. They won’t be the first to do that though given the long history of players flourishing after leaving, since Swann’s reign.

March 12, 2024 at 4:00 pm #282675My issue has always been some players can contribute little for several games and yet they keep the shirt. Such as Pugh and Shrimpton can have several good games play not so well the next time and it is the bench or the wastelands for them.
Now we do seem to be targeting the play offs, that is because we targeted too many games previously. We lined up to cope with opponents and not concentrate on us.
Best to the team tonite. Got to go for it because we have no gap on Chorley.

March 12, 2024 at 5:14 pm #282681Our squad has simply been too big for years, these lads are not getting an opportunity to get close to a run of games.
Midfield has been the main area of concern, I think we had close to 10 centre mids at the start of the year.
March 12, 2024 at 7:17 pm #282688Sembre-Ferris is playing well as well
March 12, 2024 at 10:10 pm #282700Sembre-Ferris is playing well as well
I was going to comment on that. I think since his arrival back he’s added more to the team than Roberts in all fairness. If we indeed make the play off’s, I’d at least have Bennett on the bench as he’s someone we haven’t got currently, A genuine targetman.
I can see somebody like him being fairly useful in the play off’s, even if it’s to scrap for balls late on.

You do make me laugh. (Sometimes!) Can’t beat a good early morning windup.
March 13, 2024 at 2:23 pm #282715You post up the assists and goals Roberts added during his playing stint and I’ll compare it to Sembie Ferris’s contribution. Then you can laugh or sulk depending on how right or wrong you are.
As they say… “put up, or shut up”
March 13, 2024 at 3:41 pm #282720Are the loanees flourishing at other clubs because the managers they are playing for know how to get the best out of them and Dean does’nt.I can’t think of any other reason

As they say… “put up, or shut up”Not a question of right or wrong, it’s a matter of opinions and you seem to have a problem with me posting mine. Sadly, for you, I have no intention of shutting up. It’s a Football Forum, you seem to have a problem understanding the concept.
March 13, 2024 at 10:10 pm #282736I’ll save you the trouble cassidy, statistically “not opinion based” If you actually look at the stats Sembie Ferris has indeed added more in terms of assists and goals since he’s come back from his loan than Roberts has this season.
March 14, 2024 at 9:02 am #282739Stats are totally irrelevant here. IN MY OPINION Roberts is a better player than DSF.
Whitehall has more Goals/Assists than Butterfield, does that mean he contributes more to the team?March 23, 2024 at 5:52 am #283007If you are out on loan at this key stage of the season… then I’d guess you ain’t in the managers retention thought process?

Quite possibly true for ..
Carver .. agree should be gone
Bennett ..agree should never have been re signed
Barrows ..dont agree want him back at Scunny ASAP.
Wilson ..Jury still out for me let him go elsewhere.
* Poulter and Robertson .. not seen enough to commentIm guessing Shrimpton my be the one currently out on loan who will figure in JDs plans for next season AND SO HE SHOULD ..if JD has a next season at Scunny obviously…
* IMO regardless of the outcome this season if i were a betting man i would put a few bob on JD still being manager next season just get the feeling the board will stick with him ..all be it with a very different group of players to work with .
March 23, 2024 at 8:46 am #283010I think there will be a managerial change. Time now to reset where the club is going and that starts on the pitch. Too many have commented that after plan a in a game there is no plan b and the league position reflects this.
Excitement is what will be needed next season and a leader who wants to win EVERY game. There is some talented people out there who need a bigger challenge.

March 23, 2024 at 9:33 am #283016Hopefully in right at the start of pre-season.
March 23, 2024 at 10:01 am #283017I spent a long time nattering with Number One Son last night about who to keep and who to release. (Not sure that the Iron hierarchy will be consulting us – but – you never know.)
It is seriously difficult. Hilton aimed to have a National League team in NLN.
It looks impossible that we won’t have to leave salary levels untouched for some players but make significant cuts in salaries for others. We may also need a small number of recruits to improve the squad – no easy task.
Some players won’t like it at all and will try to get a better deal elsewhere; some will not be able to; some will; others may just shrug shoulders and feel that they may well be playing in a better class of football with us – and that matters to them.
It just goes on and on.
Dare the club be negotiating with some players at this point and saying nothing to others? That can lead to rank uncertainty which could ruin our playoff campaign. What’s more, if SNOT is right, a new manager’s thoughts almost need to be brokered into club plans – NOW.
If he is correct – the club must surely know who they want but what if JD succeeds in gaining promotion? Le chat entre les pigeons!
N1S and I concluded that there will have to be fewer players but we found it no easy task to decide who to lose.
There has been a different style of play recently which has made vast improvements to players I had been thinking should be on their bikes.
Gotta say – we don’t envy the board’s job at the moment.March 23, 2024 at 10:56 am #283018Board to Jimmy – Win promotion and you get a six month extension to prove yourself in the NL. Fail and it’s au revoir.
“N1S and I concluded that there will have to be fewer players but we found it no easy task to decide who to lose.”
I fear the players might make the decision for us.

March 25, 2024 at 10:58 am #283083Sembie-Ferris seems to be the most important player in the side since returning from Peterborough, making a real difference to our attacking play. I hope with Roberts coming back too, we know have a real cutting edge out wide.
March 25, 2024 at 11:48 am #283084But it’ll be either/or down the RHS won’t it? McAlinden, Beestin and the 2 loanees for the LHS.

Could Roberts not play down the left?
March 25, 2024 at 12:54 pm #283093Probably but he seems to be more of a “cut inside and shoot” man rather than a deliverer of crosses. As we normally only have one or two in the box for crosses from open play he’s likely to be more effective shooting.

March 25, 2024 at 1:20 pm #283095Wonder if Roberts could also be a deputy for Butterfield in the middle when he needs a breather?

Selection is down to the Royal Horticultural Society? Thought they’d been stood down now Dean’s not taking gardening leave?
