I hope AB and JS have noticed that once we bring on Mark Beck we cease to be an attacking team.
People decry Whitehall who can score goals but more importantly he is always driving towards goal. He galvanises others to play good football also.
When he went off on Tuesday we ceased to be an attacking force until the lad from York came on.
Beck whenever he comes on alters our style of play which starts to break down halfway between the box and centre circle. We then do not get anywhere near the box making it doubly harder to score.
Beck is not the answer to our attacking needs he breaks us down, whether that is him or the style of play is anyone’s guess.
He is either sat on his arse, laid on his back or making himself into a giant cross, without much else going on off of him or for him.
As for a telling heading contribution his notable moments are defending corners
I hope Beck does not start whatever the situation with Whitehall.

February 14, 2025 at 5:47 pm #298950Seconded.
February 14, 2025 at 6:51 pm #298953We’ve had this conversation before, if you use Beck you must play to his strengths which means fast crosses coming in from the wings so he can attack them goalwards. We also need someone playing close to him if we persist in knocking long balls down the middle of the pitch and hoping he will do something with them, on his own not a lot, with a man close by then the flicks on he wins could bear some fruit. This guy has scored goals before at this level which is why he moved up a division before he joined us, he’s not at all like Whitehall and you would not expect a man of his physical build to play like Whitehall. Play to his strengths and give him a chance, he’s a target man so play in a way that suits a target man.

February 15, 2025 at 5:10 am #298963Not the game we saw on on Tuesday,we were still an attacking team but stalled at the 18 yard box .We don’t get numbers up quick enough. He’s winning balls but totally isolated .Roberts too now is being too indulgent and easily read. There’s also an extra defender as our midfield maestro sits back having a cuppa with the centerbacks so they don’t need to watch him
February 15, 2025 at 5:42 am #298964I don’t get a holding / shielding player at this level, it’s not as if we’re playing the likes of Real United, Internacionale Town, Athletico Rovers etc
Win the ball, get it and men forward as quickly as possible, shoot whenever possible… no shots = no goals. We all know it ain’t rocket science.February 15, 2025 at 2:02 pm #298988Nice to have a debate about the beautiful game and share opinions.
It always bothers me that we do not get to the by-line to get crosses over which may suit Beck, preferring instead to cut in at the edge of the penalty box.
Alas this is the FA way of coaching coaches, and why the premiership is full of managers not coached at St George’s park and the reason England haven’t won anything for 58 years.
February 15, 2025 at 2:32 pm #298990He’s neither fluid fast or a forward. All very well winning a ‘flick on’
But if that flick goes spooning out 40 yards then it’s not really going to work.
Roberts being indulgent? He’s leading scorer and leading assists so I’ll accept his alleged indulgence when he gets us another win.
I guess the manager has seen something in Beck so set the side up to what you supposedly saw because if Whitehall is a long term problem then we’re in trouble so we need that Plan B nowFebruary 15, 2025 at 2:48 pm #298991Wide players – Rfooter on the right, Lfooter on the left = crosses for big man
Rfooter on the left, L footer on the right = cut in and shoot
Will Cal & Mo switch at any time and give Beck a chance?February 15, 2025 at 3:40 pm #298992Can’t beat a bit of indulgence

February 16, 2025 at 9:33 am #299057After the views on here I watched Becks game very closely yesterday.
He is extremely poor in every aspect of his play. His positive contributions could be counted on one hand. He falls over far too easily and never once challenged the Scarborough No 5 who had a great game.
Positionally he is all at sea and never quite in the right place.
When good balls were played to him he could not offer anything and to my memory had no shots or headers at goal or forced a save from their keeper.
You can polish a turd but at the end of the day it’s still a turd.
This was a tragic signing on so many counts, and from what I have seen playing to his strengths will not alter this players offerings.
Sorry but he is utter shite.
