Great result for the U18s last night.
Wondered if anyone who watches them regular thinks some of the lads are good enough to be starting for the senior team on a more regular basis – or is it a step to far? UTI

Both Man Utd and West Ham won in Europe last night with teenagers in the side.

A seventeen year old scored for City on Wednesday.

Okay this is Scunthorpe, not Manchester. But it’s also the National League not Europe.

Not saying it’s the answer, but worth considering.

I remember the FA youth cup semi final against Sunderland in 1967. We had good youth players, they had better. 5,000 crowd at the OSG.

Technically ready physically probably not, there are some very physical players in the national league and this is where in my opinion they would struggle, but the future is a little bit brighter and we are producing young up and coming players.

Agreed, other than Gallimore we seem to have had a very ‘small’ youth setup – we have seen the likes of Poulter, Wallace and even Wilson come into the first team but struggle to make an impact in very physical games. Even Pugh and O’Malley are fairly small footballers.

Apter makes it work because he’s clearly a level above and is fairly stocky – I think we’re going to struggle to integrate the younger lads at this level unless we have a better (and more confident) side around them to give them some breathing space to flourish.

    Good point.

The one that sticks out for me was when we brought Harry Lewis on for his debut, he got crunched in 3/4 tackles straight away within 5 minutes
