January 3, 2023 at 7:03 pm #251843Court documents now released proving that Swann was actively looking to sell the club in the summer 2018 to pay off gambling debts.
This was also the summer our fortunes reversed and we began plummeting down the leagues.
At least we now have an explanation to why we dropped so suddenly.

January 3, 2023 at 7:42 pm #251847According to an email dated April 2018 shown as part of AB defence PS was planning to sell the club at that date and that would help his cash flow. This seems at odds with his claims on the club website that the dispute was unconnected with the finances of the football club. pic.twitter.com/p1dQ0z5opA

January 3, 2023 at 7:56 pm #251849Looking to sell the club in 2018 ?
It appears Swann’s gambling addiction has tanked the club. That’s what it looks like anyway. The funding from Swann started getting pulled in 2018 so that coincides with the money he owed Apollo Bookmakers.
What a shit show !

January 3, 2023 at 8:46 pm #251855Not unreasonable to suggest that IMO
January 3, 2023 at 10:41 pm #251862Totally agree Wondergoals. Have read the contract documents. The statement regarding being in a position after the play-offs to pay a sum of money to AB says it all, if I understand it correctly. Pure evil what Swann has done to our beloved Scunthorpe United. All the staff must be so worried regarding upcoming wages. Its disgusting. The worst I have heard regarding an owner of a football club. Where is the protective legislation, there isn’t any. Unbelievable what one man can be allowed to do to a football club, its soul destroying. How dare he show his face in public and in the business community.

January 3, 2023 at 10:43 pm #251863Sorry was supposed to read, have read the COURT documents not contract documents.
January 3, 2023 at 10:48 pm #251864Sordid stuff. A proud history, community asset and employer potentially tanked by someone in charge without the character to steer the vessel safely. I actually have a flicker of empathy for anyone who gets out of their depths even if they chose to swim there. If I were on Peter Swann’s team I would move heaven and earth to make whatever financial compromises are possible on the sale that could give the club a future. It may not be a legal obligation. It may not be good business. But it would be more honourable than the pain that looms on the horizon. And it would be a decent decision.
January 3, 2023 at 11:01 pm #251866Now we know why our stadium and land was transferred to Coolsilk, Swanns company.

January 3, 2023 at 11:03 pm #251867And what galls me is that all those radio interviews and Bru podcasts he did since 2018 were done by him knowing that was the case.
All the time he was saying everything was hunky-dory. We weren’t going down, we were sustainable, work was about to start on the redevelopment.
Laying the blame on others. NLC, the fans, Covid and the managers.
At last we’ve got some answers to what the hell was going on, but it doesn’t make it any easier to take.

January 3, 2023 at 11:05 pm #251869I wonder what UTI99 would say to defend him against the ‘unjust criticism’ from fans on this. Our abuse probably drove him to gamble so much, in his eyes.
January 3, 2023 at 11:05 pm #251870Simon Elliott and Ian Sharpe I’m sure are doing their utmost to attract more investors. Lets all pray to God they succeed otherwise Swann will have been allowed to force our Club into extinction to feed his disgusting gambling.

January 3, 2023 at 11:36 pm #251871I am afraid that there will be no happy ending to this story, although I forcast that the end would be a lot like it is going to be, I did not possibly think that anyone would sink so low as to drive a league football club into extingtion, just to cover up his stupid gambling adiction.
He has spun loe after lie over the past six or seven years just to allow himself to continue his evil adiction, and over 6 or 7,000n Scunthorpe supporters will lose their once loved little club.
These latest happenings probably explain why our better players were driven out of our club, and also why Cox was kept on as manager for a year too long, just because his management was suiting Swanns aim of driving our club doewn and down, and the appointment of Swanns son appointment as head of recruitment is now showing why????

January 4, 2023 at 5:43 am #251874Thanks Peter … Happy New Year to you too … this sad tale just gets worse and worse , with more facts coming forward tying to dates when only negative things happened at the club it all drops into place , yet this evil selfish asswipe just kept spewing BS lie after lie..
Unless a takeover happens and quick this will surely mean extinction for our club thanks to one man and his greed.

January 4, 2023 at 7:01 am #251878He was a wrong un from the start, Trinity fans tried to tell us but were accused of sour grapes! Bucks & UTI should also hang their heads in shame for the shite they gave us that tried to tell them about Swann. What did we get in return??? We were accused of having agenda’s and hating his wealth….arseholes!!!

January 4, 2023 at 10:55 am #251889Some great work from Kieran Maguire – he’s really putting the spotlight on the murky dealings of our club owner. I love the fact that he shows clearly that the statement made on the website from Swann appears to contradict the court filings.
I noted that Jeff Stelling mentioned Scunthorpe United in this tweet (https://twitter.com/JeffStelling/status/1610438779084636160). Hopefully the press will start picking this up and run with the story. The more eyes on Swann the better. It may not save the club, but at least it will let the world know exactly what sort of a human being Mr Swann is!

Drug addicts and alcoholics’ I have known have always said the same thing. “I know what I’m doing, I’ve got it under control”.
January 4, 2023 at 4:18 pm #251923How far Swann has fallen when it takes a shady bookies to out him and take the moral high ground in this sad episode.
The business world will treat him with the disdain he deserves and the only ones willing to work with him will be those who see him as a target to make a quick buck. If he is allowed to handle money again, surprised Karin hasn’t taken his phone off him

What an absolutely ridiculous comment, Pat. All of Swann’s business plans made a great deal of sense and it’s baffled me as to why things went the way they did. Now we know the answer.
It’s the easiest thing in the world to say that Swann’s a “wrong un”, but no matter how much I hate the man for what’s happened to our club I’m not going to condemn him for having a gambling problem. That’s what’s killed our club, not all the absurd stuff you and others were moaning and groaning about, such as running out of pies at half-time.
January 4, 2023 at 7:16 pm #251952I don’t think Pat or anyone on this forum has claimed that catering problems are why the club has imploded.
