Just goes to show how low are our expectations of this team/club when we lose to a team much lower than our lowly position, yet within 36 hours the chat on here is pubs, food and which stand to support from.

Having higher expectations will only lead to disappointment and misery. :-(

We’re left with finding anything to make following the Iron seem pleasurable, which seems to be anything but the football.

That’ll be me and Awaywego you’re getting at then, Alcy.

Sorry for attending the game and boring those who don’t go any more.

But hey! This is a fans forum after all. And yes, the football was nothing to get excited about.

What are your expectations for Southend?

As a Scunny fan, if you expect to be disappointed you’ll seldom be let down.

I’ve hardly watched any football at all this season. My love for the game has evaporated. Despair at what’s happening at SUFC and despair at what’s happening to the game at all levels. I normally love the World Cup but can’t imagine watching any of it. Qatar of all places, in stadia built on modern slave labour. Money, money, money from overpaid players to hypocritical pundits.

I just wish that I no longer cared about SUFC, but in reality I do. It’s back to the bad old days, just worse.

Did you see Gary Neville’s pathetic justifications for the Qatar World Cup, Bucks?

Buck’s, these are 100% the same as my feelings, I never missed a Scunny game for year after year, including possibly 40% of away matches, but the way that football is played these days with players passing to others, then the ball is returned time after time, to me it is just uninteresting boring rubbish, this added to all the diving and rolling about acting has taken over the enjoyable football of teams having wingers and crosses into the box from the wing. Regarding SUFC, after following the club since 1951, it has really hit me how Swann has guided my team into dire non-league football, I could never see this happening, but due to his greed, he appears to have total contempt for our fans, not issuing any information to supporters is even worse than listening to lie after lie, but I am shocked that 2,500 still turn out every home game to watch the total shite that is presented to them, maybe it is the catering and plush surrounds that are dragging them to GP, or maybe it is hoping that they can witness history of a WIN, so that they can tell their grandkids that they were there!!!!

I think it is indicative of the whole malaise around what has happened. Swann has done his worst and on the whole WE supporters have stood by and allowed him to do it, with nothing more than a couple of half hearted protests. No other clubs fans would have allowed this to happen without making things much more uncomfortable for the perpetrator. I include myself in that by the way, I’m as guilty as anyone in just standing by and letting us lose our ground, slip into non league in the most embarrassing way imaginable and continue to witness new lows (as Saturday was) with there being no consequence for those who have led us to where we are. We are ALLfar too compliant, me included.

Try and make the effort to get along to a non-league game, you may find it helps you reconnect. Unsullied by big money, corrupt owners, dubious regimes, VAR, everything that makes modern football rubbish. I’ve been to lots of non-league football this season and it’s been great. Entertaining games, players giving it their all after a day at work, cheap entry, great pies: everything that makes going to football fun (or should do!).

Not getting at anyone, and not bored.
    Just disappointed.
I’d really have expected more anger.
    But no, Swanny has won.
We now expect so little that even s total disaster passes by with hardly a raised eyebrow.
The Cods gave Fenty a much harder time.
But on here we have windy moderators who prefer to post anti-tory drivel in non-football, then delete a post calling him out.🙄🙄🙄

The football is only an 1-5hrs of the day Alcy, went with my son and grandsons bumped into my sister and travelled with friends, none of whom I would have seen if I had not gone, going to a game is so much more than the football if it was just down to the football I just wouldn’t go, and have explained before that’s why I don’t go to many home games, obviously you and the likes of BS have no friends to go with and I can understand why you don’t attend no problem, I just find it hard to understand why you can’t understand what motives or reasons people have in doing what they want and when they want, certainly wouldn’t let one man stop me from watching my team, what did you do on Saturday.

Going out of a cup is disappointing.

Going out of a league is a reason to be angry.

That’s going to happen around Christmas time.

So BS that I’ll be about 70 years you’ve followed the Iron. If the 2 to 2.5 thousand didn’t turn up we would not have a club by now. The big man would have his building site. It won’t happen but I would like to see 5 thousand turn up support the team but make it clear to the heirarchy before at halftime and after the match in one way or another what are true feeling are. We all need to do something before it is too late. Staying away is not the answer in my view but hey ho each to his/her own.

Oh, there are plenty of things about market forces that I don’t like, TW, but I don’t think there’s a better system. In life nothing’s ever going to be perfect.

A colleague of mine, who just happens to be a socialist — doesn’t bother me and we get on very well — is a Man City season ticket holder. I tease him about the money side of Man City’s success given his political views and in true football supporter style he says: “I know, but I’m just enjoying it while it lasts”.

I’m quite sure that if the club was doing OK I’d manage to overlook a lot of other things that are wrong with the game. I’ve absolutely no idea why the club’s position has affected me so much, but it has.

Not strictly true. The Cods barely mustered a protest in 20 years of decline- and their fall was greater than ours.

Unfortunately we’ve probably missed the boat in terms of meaningful protest now; I’m disappointed that the Iron trust have not done more to help organise supporters.

I find myself in agreement with AWG in that the football is a just part of the day, but not the whole day. Yesterday was another home defeat, but a very good day out with pre and post match beers with mates in the pub. I can’t see anything any owner, or league standing, could do to change that, hopefully. 🙂

I keep going because Scunthorpe United is my club and I love the club, win, lose or draw and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let a ball bag like Swann stop me.

I just wish more people listened all those years ago when some of us tried to tell you what the future held under Swann, Gainsborough fans tried to tell us but all some of you could see was the shiny new stadium that was never, ever going to get built and if it had we would have gone bust before now as we simply don’t have the fan base to sustain such a stadium, something else I tried to tell you.

I will continue going until the bitter end which I fear is not far away, but we will be back as a phoenix club of some description.

Sadly pat i have to agree with your last sentence .. the end is nigh.
NLN will be smoke screened by anither make believe buyer /takeover then when that falls through again Swan will say he has no option then to close the club down.. whilst of course still.owning all its assets in Coolsilk name.

He fat hes round he needs bouncing out the town .. one thing he usnt is stupid he holds all the cards to our ckubs bleak future if there is a future at all.

The most overwhelming reason I’m now a rare visitor is that I’m an old dude who can’t face driving back to Sheffield in the dark – especially when so many road closures of the M180 send you onto farm tracks and D roads.
Also can’t easily face bad winter weather – my arthritis kills in the cold.
You’ll still see me in July to September and late March onwards.
Mind you – if I can bum the occasional lift from Number One Son, who now has other Saturday commitments, I’ll risk the cold but only if the lads are trying.
Conclusion? – Probably six or seven games a season.

Old age and health problems associated with it are a real bind for you les but at least the fire of being an Iron fan still burns brightly within you which is the main thing and is very encouraging to hear. I’m just a home bird fan these days, can’t be doing with four hour long ( and the rest ) away days on a bus, then standing or sitting in some draughty old stadium , albeit enjoying the away day experience of atmosphere, banter and all, then contemplating that same bloody journey home after whatever result. Still get to the majority of home league games, cup games don’t interest me and if I get a better offer for some other social gathering, dinner with friends or a drink and food fueled enjoyable weekend away, then I’m gone. Still like going to Iron home games but the magic of yesteryear has definitely gone and maybe age is a factor but the main reason is the owner and his lack of interest in our club which has brought our current situation about.

Awaywego, you are correct pal you say that Alki and myself do not have many friends, that is probably right simply because less people wish to be with elderly people of 80 odd you will find this when you reach that age mate, but what friends I have can suffer other things than visiting GP for two hours of pain.

You ask what we did on Saturday, well my day was probably just as bad as yours Awaywego, I sat and listened to the shite on RH, but that experience was compounded by that clueless boring COX, who for some reason was introduced as the EXPERT SUMMERISER, with his record, how the hell can he claim to be an expert, and to make things worse every time he spoke he included the “really really” words, but at least my cost was zero and driving is not so good these days.

I do not condemn you for going pal, simply because I have done the same as yourself and jumped in my car and attended thousands of away games of Scunny’s, but for me what Swann has done to our once great little club is just not acceptable to myself, and by keeping away and not saying anything to the remaining supporters is criminal, he is an evil greedy person who appears to be enjoying what he has done.

Yes I know what you mean BS it’s the smell of piss and shit that puts me off the elderly. It wasn’t just Swann though you were going to stop going if the manager kept playing Novac, would seem you were going to find an excuse to stop going come what may Imo.

The results are a sideshow at the moment, SUFC are on borrowed time, we all know that. Only the mortgage money, Season Tickets promoted by Bru Contributors are keeping us going.

NI mentions the radio, one bright spot we can listen to the games without restrictions now and Ollie Turner doesn’t shy away from asking the tough questions.

It will happen anyway sir, do you think that you 2,500 will stop Swann pulling the plug on the club ??, I hope that it does not happen, but in my opinion between November and February news will come through that no more money will be put into the club, and with no buyers liquidation is the only answer, he will then get his hands on the stadium and all its land, are you all blind to this?????

Who do you think is likely to offer money for the club, there is nothing of any value to buy, and with no stadium, no car parks and training ground, all that is being sold is a non-league club that is 23rd out of 24 in the National League, about 30 very poor players, well about 25 players if you disgard Hammil and his sick note pals, and the sale would also come with Daws and Mussa, and 2,000 fans when winter arrives, so what value do you put on that package, maybe £20,000!!
