Just a minor setback.
No need to worry. (Panic is acceptable, however.)
September 11, 2021 at 4:52 pm #213467Problem is Les these are the ‘types’ Cox wanted in the building. Exeter have walked three goals in with nobody anywhere near them – the defence wad the only good thing on paper. It is a gutless talentless performance beyond the worst fears of most.
Once again we’re looking at 4/5 players who should be nowhere near this level
September 11, 2021 at 5:14 pm #213471Humberside kept saying they had a special training session thus week to learn how to stop Jay running the game!!
That worked well then. How about training all week to teach the players how to play like Jay!

September 11, 2021 at 5:29 pm #213475Losing 1-0 at half time, surely you think it’s not working particularly well, scrimshaw totally isolated, let’s change to 4 4 2 and have a bit of ago,no let’s go 2-0 down then go 4 4 2,that performance was as bad as anything from last season, absolutely shocking, why didn’t Beeston start ?, why didn’t jarvis? play up front with scrimshaw ,3rd from bottom, bottom 2 ? Next week,I hope not but the writing is on the wall, the fans will stay away in droves unless something improves.

September 11, 2021 at 6:00 pm #213484It’s hard to put into a single post how shite that was today.
How does Beestin drop to the bench for 2 young lads who looked scared shitless all game every time Exeter ran at them. Even Pugh should have started ahead of both. Complete waste of 2 vital places when there’s areas on the pitch desperately lacking.
One of those areas being up front- no-one whatsoever to hold the ball up- if the game plan is knock long balls up 50 yards, why not start Jarvis? O’Neil looks like he’s been picked from the Clugston stand at half time to have a go.
Back 3 were shambolic; we all knew cover was needed there if we suffered injuries/suspensions but instead it was decided 8 centre mids have to be on the books.
Millen reminded me of an old rover 200 when the head gasket had blown, was utterly knackered after 30 minutes and should’ve been taken off.
Lills sounded as confused and bewildered as we all felt watching, poor bloke is so out of his depth and Must be wondering how he is back at a professional club.
Swann OUT

September 11, 2021 at 6:23 pm #213487Good job we – trained well all week
– did our homework on Exeter and knew what to expect
– set up to defend against a team that don’t score
Otherwise it could have been really embarrassing.2 users thanked author for this post.
September 11, 2021 at 6:36 pm #213489Words fail me.
it was like watching a Alan Knill team the way they passed it about across the back side to side going nowhere then hoofing it upfield to a striker who is small and up there on his own.
it took us over 75 minutes before we put any real pressure on their goal but that only last 2 minutes, there was no urgency in the play and too much tip tapping and losing it, we got out muscled all over the pitch and only 2 efforts on target and not sure whether the first was a cross or a shot, pathetic second half and now we are starting to concede a few we still haven’t sorted more than one in a game.
what happened to the 4 4 2 attacking football we still aren’t seeing it and pointless when you are 3 goals down.2 users thanked author for this post.
September 11, 2021 at 7:08 pm #213493Only words I can think of after that are SHOCKING, DISGUSTED, DISGRACEFUL! Time for a clear out i’am afraid Messers cox, lillis are totally out of their depth.

September 12, 2021 at 9:56 am #213569It was truly appalling yesterday and I agree with many sentiments on here and in particular the players not in the team that should be rather then loanees and both the loanees yesterday in midfield brought nothing to the table particularly in that 5-3-2 initial system wheras Beestin and Pugh would surely have done better. We needed a forward and a winger brought in not two players who do nothing more and on yesterday’s showing even less then our own players do who were bench warming. If you are going to play Perry then at least let the lad play in the correct area where his passing can influence the game not chasing their best player all over the pitch achieving nothing. Also what is this obsession with zonal marking at corners? It gives the opposition players rushing in from the edge of the box all the momentum they need to meet the ball, it’s for Premiership coaches working with Premiership players not league two bread and butter dross, which is what we are. We need more basic practical thinking with the right players in the right system on the field at the right time.
It’s not rocket science, is it?3 users thanked author for this post.
September 12, 2021 at 10:14 am #213572Reply to OP Exeter, far and away better than us.
September 12, 2021 at 11:20 am #213578They had more energy & desire than I’ve seen all season from our lot.
Every time they won the ball, regardless of where they were on the pitch, they had numerous players sprinting forward, with purpose, to join in the attack.
We win the ball & I don’t see 1 forward run or anyone looking interested in wanting to score a goal.
Lack of fitness, motivation, desire, energy, willingness, confidence, skill? All of the above, probably, except that you don’t need to be skilful to run.
September 12, 2021 at 12:23 pm #213581We was promised fast flowing attacking football at G.P. well we got it yesterday from Exeter.
Sorry Neil/Mark but it’s time to go. Maybe not the only ones either.1 user thanked author for this post.

Check out the selection recently. How many players signed by previous managers get an opportunity ? Seems that signed by Cox you are in – biggest example Tom Pugh, a Tony Daws recommendation and dropped. Mason O’Malley signed by Russ Wilcox for the U23s – now the invisible man.
September 12, 2021 at 3:08 pm #213587I thought Davies was at fault for their first but have just watched the highlights.
The forward pass was a simply exquisite ‘assist’ and took both GK and Davies out of the equation – leaving Jaye on for a terrific goal.No arguments about the other three goals, though. A total disgrace.
What was the thinking over Millen? I’m not blaming the lad himself coz he was knackered half way through the first half but having a quarter fit defender on the pitch was actually worse than having ten men. It was not just match fitness, either.
Another week of fitness training may do it for Millen – but he still needs a full behind closed doors game against tough opposition to get him anywhere approaching match fitness. An appalling decision. I am assuming Lillis did not pick the team.
If we are compelled to play Hackney every match for half a season – we are done for.
If we can play our best team next week – things should change. BTW – why no news on Loft?
September 13, 2021 at 12:57 am #213599I have never ever witnessed a player so compromised in terms of fitness getting a full 90 minutes. I saw him about the 25 minute mark and he looked absolutely shattered.
Made it worse that we had a natural RB playing CB and even had Pugh who could have played there.
How the hell Lillis didn’t notice he was knackered when I did I’ll never know and he was the manager on the bloody day ?
Lillis needs putting out to pasture, completely inept, closely followed by Cox.
Mr Swann needs to piss off but for the time being Lillis and Cox need quickly binning. I’d let McMahon take charge, he can’t be any worse..surely not !

September 13, 2021 at 8:27 am #213602“Lillis needs putting out to pasture, completely inept, closely followed by Cox.”
I wish we had Mark Lillis and Neil Cox on the pitch, because Exeter then would have to do their homework on us especially how to stop Lillis who was a fantastic player.
but then again Burny you won’t have seen him play, way before your time.
September 13, 2021 at 5:48 pm #213633Lillis is the Assistant Manager and he just stood there on Saturday doing nothing most of the game and McMahon was doing all the instructions etc to players.
So what is the role of Mark Lillis. Was he brought back because previously a fans favourite and full of enthusiasm. Was he brought back by Swann to try and get fans on side.
I m very sorry to say that he seems to have very little input on match days.September 13, 2021 at 6:15 pm #213638Mick—-Why do you say that it was like Alan Knill’s team, why not publish the truth, IT WAS LIKE NEIL COXES TEAM, which it was, it is unreal how supporters always appear to blame anyone but COX!.
This team is made up of players that Cox has brought into the club, it is his system that the team plays, it is his team that gets selected for matches, it is his team that are in the bottom three places in the bottom league, and they have ended up there because of the management of SUFC and Cox has a big say in this pathetic team and their pathetic results, so please refer to Cox when blame is being dished out.
This club are heading full steam into non-league football, it is a sad situation for the clubs loyal fans, but as you can well see, 2,000 have let their feet do the talking, I never ever thought this would happen to myself, but I cannot take any more of the shite that is being presented by the club management, and the fans still turning out must think that it is because of loyalty, but you must be annoyed and sadened like us that have said enough is enough, because management do nothing to halt this situation, and there is a reason for this hidden away somewhere, we must take our own view on why this is happening???????
I fully thought that I would open my computer and read that either Cox had been relieved of his duties, or that he had resigned because of his pathetic record at Scunthorpe, but are having difficulty finding such info!!!!!!

No you turned your computer on and found out he’d lost his father, A man of your age I’d have thought you’d show a little respect and have some dignity.
September 13, 2021 at 8:26 pm #213646I wouldn’t wish that on anybody and hope he’s ok but putting that to one side, he really should be sacked. Lillis is just as bad if not worse than Cox is.
That from Lillis, Jesus. Millen looked like death warmed up and he somehow failed to spot just how compromised he was.
If he still had it wits about him he would have easily just stuck Pugh there or even put Rowe there and changed to a back 4 but I suppose that would have been too sensible.
For crying out loud. It wasn’t even hard to spot with anybody with eyes that he was absolutely cream crackered.

I’m no fan of the management team and alot of decisions made on Saturday were baffling, however, you are a dick…but the death of his father to one side and sack him the day after
September 13, 2021 at 11:43 pm #213649Eandmee—It is you that is the Dick, obviously we were not to know the sad situation, and have every respect when we are aware of the sad happenings, what you are hinting at, is that Wondergoals and myself were aware of his sad loss. That just highlights how thick you must be.
It wouldn’t have been too much for the club to inform Scunthorpe supporters of the situation, instead of just saying “he is not present for personal reasons”, and may I say that I am very sorry for Mr Cox and his family for their sad loss.

I know it will be bloody hard and the timing is rotten. Look, it’s bloody terrible in fact but what can anybody really do ?
Give him 3 more games then and see if it picks up, either way you can’t let this go on till end of the season, we’ll be in non league and pretty much sunk.
I can’t see us ever bouncing back with the current state that the club is in. I didn’t know the reason for his absence either.
You should be given a lifetime ban for such language.

When that terminology is used you can be fairly certain it relates to a family illness or bereavement.
This sadly was the case at the weekend. The club get a lot of things wrong, but IMO the statement they issued on Saturday was the correct one.
We all offer Neil our sincere condolences. Some things are bigger than football.
Let’s hope the players support their manager by going out and performing well at Carlisle.
It’ll be my first live game since before the pandemic. Hope I can bring a bit of luck with me!
September 14, 2021 at 10:05 am #213653Bartonscorpion, the club put a statement out 22 hours ago, well before your post “looking” for the sacking of the manager. Sometimes you just have to admit you got it wrong

Treat someone like a human being? Give the man a couple of weeks off to grieve, to organise everything that comes with a family bereavement, to attend the funeral? I mean, is that too much to ask?
September 14, 2021 at 10:36 am #213655NI i shall be there to, come up and have a word, you can’t fail to recognise me from what posters have said about me. The Neanderthal arm dragging with racist tattooed on my forehead. Would love to meet you at last and put a face to your name.
