Southgate explained the penalty taker fiasco when asked saying it was based on the stats from pens in training and the players who wanted to take the first five, I think that is pants. How can training replicate a big match atmosphere against World Class players like Italy?, the senior players left on the pitch after Kane and Maguire scored should have come forward to take one. Reminded me a bit of 1992 play off final when youngsters Alexander and White took pens for us and missed whilst Joe Joyce sat on his arse in the centre circle not interested, absolutely ridiculous putting Saka and Sancho through that, Rashford should know better, his penalty was awful.

Typical Cox interview, sorry Southgate, we needed to win the game in the 120 minutes, well why not try to instead of playing a cautious game. I chose the penalty takers, why?you were shite when it come to penalties, if you did chose a least tell them pick a corner and blast it, no fancy Dan efforts allowed. And to think I let myself get all excited to watch the same old same old.

Grealish now saying he won’t have anyone putting him down and he did offer to take a penalty, that offer wasn’t taken up by the gaffer.

Stop playing politics Rashford, and concentrate on how to take a penalty.

Stand by my post, someone on £200,000 a week should at least keep the ball in-between the posts. A little more practice a little less politics please. Should be able to do both but last night say otherwise.

Knew you didn’t come up with that comment on your own.

Lewis Hamilton has added his voice the the ongoing problems of abuse, so the next time he hits the gravel will you say “He should concentrate more on his driving than on politics”?

The most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a long while.

You would think if you had a spouse convicted of a couple of sexual assaults you would keep your gob shut about someone being distracted from his day job trying to get poverty stricken kids a meal.

To quote what was actually said, in a personal message. Sorry but I don’t understand the fuss!

In a private message to her colleagues, Ms Elphicke said: “They lost – would it be ungenerous to suggest Rashford should have spent more time perfecting his game and less time playing politics.”

Rashford ” playing politics ” ( What a puerile statement ) is the reason millions of kids got fed when the Government of the day were avoiding their political responsibility by not doing the job they are paid for. Rashford took a crap penalty but it won’t have left a load of kids hungry due to him missing it, just disappointed a nation for a night, most people will have got over it by now and the majority will have moved on. It’s a bloody football game FFS, keep things real.

Mr Rashford’s penalty miss was an error, not a disgrace. He is a human being who shows his humanity by his concern for underprivileged underfed children. What is a disgrace is the fact that he is being pilloried by some members of this forum.

Was Kane’s penalty against Denmark a disgrace?

Because if that had been a shootout the follow up wouldn’t have counted!

The same people harping on about Rashford’s humanitarian work will be the same ones who moan about the pampered millionaire footballers training for a few hours then driving off in their Ferraris and Maseratis to get another tattoo or a new haircut, before spending the rest of the day in the hot tub!

When one comes along who actually uses his spare time, fame and money to do something worthwhile he gets criticised even more.

    Hypocrisy of the highest order.

Course I was stirring it NI but nothing to do with that Tory woman’s post. Today we have Ming’s entering the political fray,All for a real stand against racism and Ming’s who was the main target in Bulgaria, when England had a chance to show the world they were not going to tolerate it, and could have refused to play on, but no we bottled it , I mean we might have been penalised and we can’t be having that can we, if we can’t walk off when winning 2-0 and then at 3-0 how could we ever walk off if we was losing, also I will say about again Hamilton when black sportsmen were refusing to play one weekend he carried on he couldn’t risk losing 25points to is rival could he, but give him is due he did wear a tee shirt in support of Black lives. ? What can we do that won’t effect us, we’ll take the knee that I’ll show em. For god’s sake Patel is Bame and knows herself about racial abuse.

I don’t see an issue in Mings pointing out that Patel has room to talk when she is now condemning racism after ignoring why they were trying to bring racism and the need to stop it to light. For them, she dismissed the need to do something against racism, but is now joining in the condemnation. For someone who doesn’t like gesture politics, Patel loves making gestured comments. Is the knee succeeding? Probably not, but that’s partly because people like Patel aren’t doing anything to stop it.

As for the Bulgaria game, the idiots got ejected, many players would have seen forfeiting as a way of letting the racists win. They might not trust UEFA to not reward Bulgaria for an outcome in response to refusal to play. Besides, I don’t see how this nullifies any anti-racist gestures from players.

“For god’s sake Patel is Bame and knows herself about racial abuse”.

Does that give her a free pass to make comments without being challenged?

Of course black footballers have got every right to defend themselves against racist abuse AND challenge hypocrisy from senior politicians.

You and others are bending over backwards to have a go at the players. You are even defending Patel rather than Mings (or Ming’s as you call him).

The players are wrong when they miss a penalty, wrong when they challenge politicians, wrong when they don’t walk off the pitch, wrong because they support a Marxist organisation, wrong because they lost, wrong because they get involved in campaigns, wrong because they don’t get involved in campaigns, wrong because they earn too much and share it, wrong when they do share it, wrong for taking the knee.

It’s quite simple. Let’s see action to tackle racism, stop the politicians dog whistling, stop their fake support of the team and actually do something.

Exactly right BRI,not trusting Uefa that’s my point, scared the would be kicked out of the tournament, same as Hamilton loosening the world championship. Like I said let’s take the knee that will show them.

He is a prime candidate for a kicking. Shouting and screaming, waving his hands about like Adolf Hitler. Slagging off working class Brits, because he probably still thinks we should cancel BREXIT.

It’s obvious why we lost that penalty shoot out. The manager picked the wrong men to do the job. Nothing to do with the Tories, much as I dislike them.

Oh and using the word ‘moribund’. He deserves a kick in the bollocks just for that.

But did he choose the wrong penalty takers? Penalty record of the players:

    Taken more than 10:
    Kane 47/55 – 85%
    Rashford 17/19 – 89%
    Sancho – 11/12 – 92%

    So that’s 3 chosen.

    Taken 5-10:
    Sterling 4/9 – 44%
    Maguire 4/8 – 50%

Maguire possible makes 4, Sterling not likely.

    The rest:
    Sakha 2/3 – 67%
    Phillips 2/3 – 67%
    Grealish 2/2 – 100%
    Pickford, Shaw, Stones 1/1 – 100%

Southgate said the choices were based on practice. The evidence says he got it wrong because 3 missed, but so did Italy’s top penalty taker.

Based on records Kane, Rashford and Sancho were right, Maguire based on character. 2 out of these 4 missed leaves one other choice. He chose Sakha – he missed, I would have chosen Grealish or Phillips.
