Peter Swann said our next seasons squad will be put together by the end of May so we are in a better position for preseason on video with Mike White, I will believe it when it happens, at least it coincides with the early bird ticket renewal.
Apologies if anyone has mentioned thisApril 14, 2021 at 6:57 pm #204798I like what is being said …

April 14, 2021 at 7:15 pm #204799Thing is les, a lot of things are said and 99% is pure hogwash. I’ll wait and see what happens. Taking the contract offers away from the one’s who show no willingness to sign is a good start though.
Get all the crap out the door and start a fresh. I just hope the recruitment isn’t anywhere near as crazy as last time though.
April 15, 2021 at 11:05 am #204811Almost a year ago, I was saying how we needed a nucleus of fourth division grafters. Cut your coat …
We did not get the four or five who would surely have been at budget prices and would have transformed us into a decentish squad. After all – we had the ex-Shrewsbury class acts to build around AND Kev was still under contract.
We could allow youth to develop and try out some non-leaguers.
But – how much was wasted on loan players?
(At least Neil got us Taft and has brought on the young FBs and Manny.)Last pre-season I was also demanding a spine to the team. For those in high places who do not know this fact, ‘without a spine you end up spineless.’
Somehow McAtee and Eisa took some waking up which presumably would not have been necessary under Hurst. Kev has been a walking sicknote.
Now we find ourselves going into a new season with very few class acts and precious little likelihood of being able to attract any. To say I’m worried is a gross understatement.April 15, 2021 at 11:30 am #204813I think it’s not necessarely about when you get your new players in, but on which players you can sign.
Remember a few years ago when we were very happy with early bird Iwelumo, and I thought those 3 Preston boys also came in early.April 15, 2021 at 11:40 am #204815Don’t forget you have until the end of May to get the best deal on your season ticket !!!!
April 15, 2021 at 12:17 pm #204816There’s going to be a large turnover and we are going to lose some of the little bits of quality we have got but with the RIGHT additions we could do ok.
Onarise and Taft is a great pairing if they can stay fit. Barks and one other as backup.
Beestin and Spence are both good enough paired with an old head who can put a tackle in. One or two from the kids kept on.
Green has potential and I don’t think Hippolyte is a complete write off with one good signing and possibly a young loanee out wide is ok.
Up front is a worry. Loft has shown he’s good enough with a partner when we play to his strengths and put the ball near him on occasions. Keep Jessop or Mooney as a cheap 4th means 2 quality additions needed. Hope we can bin at least 1 of Jarvis and Turan off on someone else.
Watson is under contract which is my main concern. If we open the season again with “Rory is our number one he’s good enough” then we will go nowhere. Keep Collins as 3rd and sign a proper keeper or it’s the same again and we’ll scramble for a “good enough” veteran again 10-12 weeks into the season.
If we get that then there is a chance. But if all that is in by the end of May at that point I would expect Cox to hit the ground running. Give us some entertainment and not be feeding us excuses.
April 15, 2021 at 12:55 pm #204820Don’t contracts normally run until the end of June? If so it will be difficult to assemble the squad by the end of May.

Am I the only one who isn’t convinced by Onarise? He’s good in the air but he’s so slow and easy to turn, I’m not sure he’s the player some think he is. Of course, compared with some other options we’ve had in this position, he’s going to stand out! But I prefer Clarke to Onarise at centre back.

Yes…quite possibly. I like Onariase personally, not flashy but does what he does with minimum fuss. Strong in the air, positionally good at this level and doesn’t tend to let many players past him.
I think him and Taft will be really solid. I’d promote Barks and maybe offer Bedeau another deal as steady back up.
I’m pretty happy with Taft and Onaraise, more than solid enough at this level. Stick an experienced capable keeper behind them, we may be alright.

April 15, 2021 at 7:51 pm #204841I’m putting a proviso on my thanks – as long as it’s not Bedeau on the naughty step.
April 15, 2021 at 8:01 pm #204844We’ll have to wait and see. It may be Bedeau that’s been unprofessional. It may be hard to sign a fresh CB though as Taft and Onariase will be deemed 1st choice.
Only player we can bring in is a youngster under those circumstances and we already have one of those in Barks.
Clarke can cover there though I suppose so we may be alright.
