We have a striker crisis with Loft injured yet we have a striker with league experience on our books who – for whatever reason – Cox won’t play.

Anyone else think this is ridiculous? The man is on our books, he’s presumably being paid, why are we not picking him? If we want to sell him, then surely he’s more likely to attract attention if he’s on the pitch? I just find it absolutely bizarre when football clubs do this sort of thing.

I find it absolutely bizarre we signed him in the first place when we had KVV, Olomola, Loft and Jarvis on the payroll.

But he’s not the first is he?

    Vose, Margetts, El Mahani, Dales.

Obviously paying his wage instead of a team of maintenance workers!

But some of those did get games and they didn’t get overlooked when we had no other players to play in their position!

I agree the signing seems odd but now that he’s here, why not give him a go?

Also, as somebody mentioned on another thread, there’s Jessop, who made the match day squad but was overlooked in favour of a midfielder when a striker went off. Now I accept that it might be too much to ask of a young player to play a lone striker role but, without an U23 side, when is he going to get any football?

It’s a fair question Cass. I can understand Cox being hesitant to chuck him in at the deep end but, like you say, how else is he going to improve?

I seriously doubt that this is an ‘his face doesn’t fit’ type of scenario.
Got to assume that the manager probably has genuine reasons.
We really do know so little about this man.
If the guy could play any sort of a positive role – then, for the team’s sake – he would surely have to include him when we have three other strikers injured.
If he does play the guy and he’s an unmitigated disaster – won’t he be carved up into little pieces on this very site?

Of course he will, is that what he’s afraid of? If he only has 2 fit strikers ( 1 unknown and 1 untried) then I don’t envy him at all.

Strange thing is Mr Cox wanted to sign him seeing him a bit of training and possibly 1 game.

Don’t think he is registered hence no squad number, although Lewis Butroid wasn’t registered for the league last season either – we have a history of strange decisions.

Personally don’t find it strange or ridiculous at all. Just a case of signing somebody who then it transpires is nowhere near good enough. Show me a club that has never done that ?

99% of people on here have agreed in various other threads that he isn’t anywhere near good enough, so why play him just because we can ? Chuck Jarvis into that bracket aswell. Both as useless as each other.

Not good enough, never will be, keep them as far away from the first team as possible !

To do anything other would be strange and ridiculous in my opinion.

I think what puzzles many of us is on whose say so this player was signed in the first place. Doubtful if anybody will admit to it!!

What? Are you serious? We literally have no one else who can play up front and we have a player on our books, being paid a wage, and you still don’t want to play him?

Don’t you think that if Cox or the rest of the staff had seen anything in training or matches to think he was worth picking that they would give him a go??

Look at his Wikipedia page, it will show you why he isn’t being picked. Not much league experience as claimed above. The big question is WHY was he signed??

I said that if we started the season with Loft as the main striker that we were doomed. I didn’t expect him to be the ONLY striker!!!!

Not really rocket science is it, if Cox thinks he’ll do more damage to the team by being on the pitch than off of it then he’s not going to play him.

This is the only logical explanation for me. No matter how shit he may be he is a striker who we are paying so logic would say give him a go.

Supposedly he was blamed for a goal last season so the only thing that makes sense is that Cox doesn’t trust him to do his work defensively, pick up his man at corners etc and considers him a liability.

Jessop on the other hand needs a chance. If you don’t think he’s good enough yet get him out on loan cos if you’re not going to pick him now then what’s the point of keeping him around?

Stick him up front with Beestin or Hallam as 10 and give him a chance.

Jeez, if that’s the criteria, how do we manage to put a team out every week?

Don’t you think that if Cox or the rest of the staff had seen anything in training or matches to think he was worth picking that they would give him a go??

There’s literally no one else, how bad can he be? He didn’t embarrass himself in his couple of appearances last season, did he?

I take it none of the posters were at the Grantham match. D-T played most of the game.I understand why he is not getting a shout.

I think Neil did say he was only just back in training after isolating from the Covid.

KDT must be worth at least £5 million if this ex-loanee is worth £4 million….

“Chelsea still have an unwieldy squad, even after clawing back more than £91m in sales so far. Ike Ugbo is set to add another £4m to that figure, with Genk and Marseille battling for his signature.”

What would Chris Kamara say? He’d be right. If Tomi Ameobi has improved as much could we get him back?

    Wow!

His stock has risen by £1m in the space of a few minutes!

Ugbo, who is 22 years old, has never played a professional game for Chelsea. Since graduating their academy, the Lewisham-born forward has been on loan to five different destinations.

He impressed on his most recent excursion with Belgian side Cercle Brugge, operating at a goal every other game.

That led to speculation of a permanent exit, which could generate Chelsea a small windfall. There was talk of a £5m move to Genk, another Belgian side. In fact, he has already been in advanced talks with them and a medical was booked in.”

Good Ole Tomi. Still traumatized by that shot he took away from home at Plymouth when went to belt the ball, only to completely miss kick it to such an extent he hit the ball side on and it flew in a straight line right to the other end of the pitch for a throw in lol

Hands down the worst shot I’ve ever seen.

To be fair he was dreadful, he’s clearly come on a lot since then. Ugbo went to Barnsley before us and they all thought he was crap as well.
