We need everyone there, no excuses.
October 27, 2023 at 9:22 pm #275968Truly shocking what was allowed to happen here. The repercussions will be felt for many years I imagine.
The positive news from all this is Scunthorpe supporters look to be more galvanised than ever to help the club.
That energy needs to be channeled into productive means.

October 28, 2023 at 12:46 am #275976Below the belt that awaywego. I get to games when I can but living over 100 miles away and restricted by financial, family and work pressures which inevitably mean putting family first, means I’m unable to get to anywhere near as many home games as I’d like to. Trust me, if I lived in town still, or much nearer, I’d be there every match, putting funds in from matchday tickets, spending on food and merchandise, encouraging as many friends and relatives to attend with me. It’s very frustrating not being able to do that more often, but hey, you carry on with your cheap shots mate if it tickles you.

October 28, 2023 at 12:58 am #275977I also contacted the Trust directly weeks ago offering pro bono specialist support with grants fundraising (offered Simon the same before Hilton grabbed the club), which they acknowledged, and they know where I am should they wish to enlist my help at any point in the future. Doing what I can to help. Not sure what else, as one individual, I can do tbh. If I was more wealthy I’d commit more funding myself, but I just don’t have enough disposable income I’m afraid.
October 28, 2023 at 9:00 am #275981Reality is the club can’t afford the current squad. I hope they find a way to keep it together and we’ve got an excellent chance then of promotion. But if they secure the ground and we have to lose some good players and stay down here longer then that is the price as fans that will have to be paid.
October 28, 2023 at 9:25 am #275982TJO seems like other clubs are already sniffing about ..York being openly mentioned as approaching players /agents and with Neil “has to be braver” Cox there should not be a surprise to anyone.
DSF out on loan already by the sound of things and can see other fringe players departing , i just hope the club can keep the first team together as will give us an excellent chance of promotion.

October 28, 2023 at 10:04 am #275984My cheap shots have tickled me down the years Deerey I must admit, they will cease with you now about attending sorry for all the digs i have made about it.
October 28, 2023 at 10:48 am #275987No worries awaywego-read your post làst night after coincidentally bemoaning to a fellow supporter about wanting to get to more games. I’ll keep thinking of ways I can help the club from a distance. Hoping for another thumping win today!

There’s no way the £1.2 million debt is all from Swann’s era. I hope if players have to leave to balance the books, the fans are understanding. It would be great if we can find a way to fund the squad, but I still classify survival as a success for this season.

Agreed. It’s hard for us out of towners. I have made a few this season, and I am going today, but money and other commitments make it hard to attend every home game, as I once did. I don’t claim to be the best fan and admire those who do go the extra mile to support the club. The most important thing is that the club is now united and we have owners we can trust.

October 28, 2023 at 1:15 pm #275992This is why I can’t stand the London lot.
In the McLean season i was at Huddersfield away, and met a group of them. They were going on about how big superfans they were.
Their number seem to have decreased since then.
I don’t go to every game, i am 50 miles away but do try to go when I can.October 28, 2023 at 1:21 pm #275993I can’t believe no one has pulled me up on my attendance at Glanny park down the years ain’t called awaywego for nothing, I won’t be going the extra mile to support the club other than the new lottery that’s coming, that’s down to the owners and has always been the case on my part, like I’ve said I’ll help buy the ground but that’s it.
October 28, 2023 at 1:33 pm #275994On a positive note the lads from Falkirk (Stenhousemuir) are on a reciprocal visit this weekend, football brings them together but it’s much much more than that.

Indeed. On match attendance, I personally found it much easier to attend lots more games financially 15 years ago when on more income than now. Stick cost of living crisis, particularly travel costs, and family costs and there may be just enough to visit the dentists when necessary! Having said that, I just noticed Bad Apple saying he’d bought a ticket for today even though he’s not going and viewing it as sponsorship. I like that and will do that more often.

Sounds a good plan, maybe I will start doing this as I miss many matches or maybe buy my first ever season ticket since 1977. I usually pay on the gate/now online and never bothered me paying extra as I don’t get to many matches and class it as helping out.
Any plans of the club coming up with a scheme for us supporters to help in anyway?
October 28, 2023 at 6:24 pm #276008“I can’t believe no one has pulled me up on my attendance at Glanny park down the years “is it because nobody is interested in what you do?
October 29, 2023 at 1:18 am #276032Cant remember where i read it but a guy on SM had the idea of when possible moving away fans to the side seating and giving the whole of the away end to schools and organizations similar to the community days, gets kids and possibly mums n dads plus those who would not attend interested and extra revenue from sales in the shop and FnB.
October 29, 2023 at 11:41 am #276050Batesyboy’s idea I think. Yes, why not. Won’t bring in much immediate income (maybe some merch and catering) but could be part of a longer term relationship building strategy. Warming up works in other sectors and it would be a good use of dead space. Some marketing and publicity, facilitation costs, but a worthwhile investment I think.

October 29, 2023 at 11:52 am #276051Just an idea for those who cannot get to games. Come to some financial arrangement ( PayPal etc) with a regular who is a friend and buy 5 x 50/50 tickets each game. UTWI
October 29, 2023 at 12:02 pm #276052There is a new club lottery coming along soon they have got the license now, those who don’t or can’t get to games will able to contribute, let’s hope they roll it out to the whole town as well not just us footy fans.
October 29, 2023 at 1:34 pm #276059I struggle to get to that many games due to living 210 miles away, really hoping they make this club lottery available online to us out-of-towners!
