Sadly reported that Don Welbourne loyal servant of Scunthorpe United for many seasons has passed away.

Died yesterday aged 73. R.I.P Don – thank you for representing the club with such pride.

Sad news. Always thought of him as much older. Only three years on me. Strange how ‘that team’ of the late sixties seemed so much older than my teenage self … Cassidy, Heath, Kerr, Clemence, Keegan, Welbourne etc Whether sharing my faith ..or not … such news ought to give us a sober moment I think.

Another great Iron servant, I know we tend to look at the past with a bit of ” rose tinted specs ” involved but I honestly believe Don was a really good player for us and it’s a very sad day indeed. RIP Don and thank you.

“Whether sharing my faith..or not..such news ought to give us a sober moment I think.” A “sober” moment to do what?
RIP Don Welbourne. Lived in the road next to mine and always told my daughter, that man played for Scunthorpe when we won at Sheffield Wednesday in one of our most famous wins of all time.
