Nowhere near good enough. Is not a presence and stops very little. Left a massive gap for the Aldershot first today.

Everyone left a massive gap for the first and the second, Dewhurst was very poor today though.

He lets more in from distance than ever Rory did. Defo not good enough. New keeper required Asap.

I have to agree, his positioning for all the goals meant he had no chance of saving them. I wouldnt mind but they should have been routine saves the two in the second half looked to me like they nearer the middle of the goal then the corner

He lets in what Rory would save, and saves what Rory would let in, like Rory he isn’t solid enough, really neither keeper made a serious save, but they let in six between them.

Time wasting after 80mins was comical. Needed grabbing and shaking because he seemed like a rabbit in the headlights

Definitely not good enough for us in our current situation.

He’s clearly well thought of and has potential but we can’t afford to have a rookie keeper in our current plight… he should be at a side who always finish mid table where his mistakes and learning can be absorbed without potential dire consequence.

It was a massive mistake that we didn’t sign an experienced older keeper in the summer… surely there were (still are) out of contract better options available.
And we still need a quality CB

Always a risk starting the season without an experienced custodian, particularly with a back four that has regularly looked shaky.

Today’s result underlines the problem we have defending a lead. It’s becoming a serious issue.

Blame him for the first, that near post bowler should never happen at professional level, blame the whole team for two and three, back of back off back off don’t close down, oh dear. Basic bloody common sense, we just don’t possess it for the full 90 minutes.

If you rely on a young player learning his game you are going to run the risk of performances like Saturday’s. The goals conceded look awful not only for Dewhurst’s efforts at saving them but also for our non-existent midfield failing to get anywhere near their players. That’s where our defensive problems lie, we really need to find a solution to that. I don’t think Beestin & Butterfield can be picked together, need someone else alongside one of them.

At the beginning of the season he was prepared to rush out and to shout, seems to have gone into his shell, clearly his confidence is shot.

Both Rory and Dewhurst were and are poor. We haven’t had a good goalie since 2018, yet still we make the same mistakes.

IMO the keeper is the most important position on the pitch.

A good keeper who commands his area instills confidence throughout the defence, and this spreads into the rest of the team. An inexperienced keeper, who is prone to mistakes instills a nervousness across the defence, and by extension to the rest of the team.

It is no coinicidence that SUFC have struggled defensively over the last few seasons. If we ever want to progress and return to the EFL we need to find a good keeper.

In case anyone was thinking of mentioning Mark Howard, I will point you in the direction of the video of him shipping 5 for Wrexham on the weekend. Yes I know they still won 7-5 but still….

BTW, our home game with Wrexham in a couple of weeks could be an absolute rugby score with both sides’ attacks against two poor defences.

Dewhurst is piss poor, what a clown with his attempts at saves for the goals against Aldershot. Scunny bunny for me any day.

But still in the previous 5 games Mark Howard let in only 3, should have stuck with Rory we’d have been relegated the previous season instead of going through last season’s debacle.

Maybe musselwhites coaching skills showing their age ,a new experienced goalkeeper with a coaching job might entice someone

    This.
It should have been sorted pre-season, along with the centre back position. Build a team from the back, and you’re on your way to keeping the point you start with.

This young keeper mantra was Will Swanns choice and no one else. He quits and the issue is firmly there for all to see. Why we let Tom Collins go baffles me even now. If 2 young keepers were wanted then we had them anyway, Tom knew the players and what was needed – so Will got rid of that bit of stability. He tried it the previous season with the Coventry lad and I understand Rory had been told right from the start of the season if they could get him out then they would ! Same mess. Our recruitment was to create imbalance and now Tony Daws has to sort that out first.

One final huge mess and the creator vanishes. Mr Dewhurst just the latest victim, hope he can get back to where he was before we got him.

No better and no worse than a string of inexperienced youngsters we had of late.

How many games did Bilson play? Whose bright idea was it play Foster against a team that needed a cricket score for a chance of automatic promotion?

Fine having young keepers for back-up, but putting them in a team on a downward spiral, low on confidence with nervy defenders is tantamount to suicidal.

Everything was systematically dismantled over the 4/5 years with our recruitment from the front working backwards. The last position to receive the treatment – The Keeper !

Once done the architect legged it !

If we didn’t stockpile centre mids we could afford a half decent experienced keeper.
