Sorry but it’s gone completely stale. More strange Dean decisions. Slow ponderous football….pass, pass, pass, pass, no real goal threat and no real shots on goal. This is getting very tiresome now.
Please explain how Pugh is not getting a start ?.
Lost for words.

February 17, 2024 at 3:09 pm #281230Agree Pugh ,was the star man at Hereford and can’t get a game here Seems strange but when you see who the manager is that says everything. How much longer do we have to put up with Dean?

February 17, 2024 at 4:43 pm #281237Plenty on the pay roll who could do a better job. Head says he’s going nowhere but with the squad we have to serve up this stuff, something’s not right

February 17, 2024 at 6:32 pm #281241Pay him off now. We have to pay him anyway, but if he stays he could #@?& up any chance of getting promoted (he’s already made sure that we won’t be champions).
February 17, 2024 at 6:51 pm #281242Gardening leave. Appoint temp from within until season end. Chester closing the gap quickly and we aren’t closing it on Tamworth.
February 17, 2024 at 7:06 pm #281243South Shields there for the taking Tuesday night after today’s result, what the hell’s going wrong there?
February 17, 2024 at 7:33 pm #281245Or they might have a positive reaction to their defeat unlike us.
February 17, 2024 at 7:43 pm #281248We’re stuck with him

That really didn’t work out too well for us the last time we did that…ended up not winning any of our remaining games and getting relegated from League 1 after sacking McCall and putting Dawson in charge. That sacking is one of the biggest factors that contributed to our recent demise, in my opinion.
February 17, 2024 at 9:07 pm #281262Big toe, if we keep stumbling along like this we’ll struggle to even make the play offs, never mind win them !
Something has got to give because whatever is wrong Dean clearly can’t rectify it. The same things are happening game in game out.
Central midfield was pretty much dead again and yet Pugh who was one of the form CM’s in the league can’t even get a game. First thing any sane person would do is put Pugh right in there for Scales and when Flynn is fit enough, play him in place of Butterfield. Central midfield needs freshening up and yet he’s picking the same 3 players game after game.
Clunan was better than usual but that’s not saying an awful lot.
Whitehall was shocking again and looks like he’s pretty much given up the ghost. May as well change to a 4/4/2 from the off and stick Youmbi and Elliot up top with Ferris and Law/wilson out wide with Pugh and Clunan in CM until Flynn is fit.
We need to try a different approach before we end up in deep shit.
February 17, 2024 at 9:23 pm #281271Careful what you say about Whitehall WG, someone might have a hissy fit.
February 17, 2024 at 9:32 pm #281272Whitehall was shocking, let him cry because what he’s giving on the pitch is nowhere near enough.
February 18, 2024 at 2:44 am #281273We will stumble in to the play-offs if Jimbob remains in charge… but, we won’t win them.

Don’t need a comma after but Rene, keep your standards up mate.
February 18, 2024 at 9:32 am #281276If we don’t go up this season it will be catastrophic, the board need to see it.

Yes i agree .. we are now so consistently inconsistent predicting results has become rather inconsistent.
Forget catching Tamworth , ifact if we do overall them i will have my gonads removed without anesthetic and change my name to Dorathy
Re SS AWAY .. anything else than a win n we are gonna get dragged into the play off scramble so im going for a draw AGAIN.

Will it?
There’s hardly a pot of gold in the national league, no extra tv money and the away attendances will marginally increase
It will be a complete failure to not achieve promotion with this squad, however with the budget due to be slashed I certainly don’t see the desperate need for promotion in terms of the club’s sustainability.

February 18, 2024 at 8:46 pm #281304I beg to differ Cliff, to move forward as a club we need to get out of this league. The money invested in this season has been silly 4x the budget of clubs at this level so if Dean can’t do it with this group of players, he’ll never do it.
Highest budget in the history of National League north with the best support so if he can’t do it, he needs to be sacked immediately.
February 18, 2024 at 10:52 pm #281309At some point, yes.
I’d rather the priority see us continuing to progress off the pitch and work towards building a sustainable model; rather than demanding players all the time and pay no interest in the balance sheet. We tried that before and it almost liquidated us.
Dean probably isn’t the man to lead us long term, but until his contract is up then we have to hope he can find the solution to turn it around.

IF IF we are lucky enough to scramle into the NL next season i suspect without a big spend on recruitment as the cods are doing in L2 scunny will get battered everywhere they go !!
Dean should see his contract out til the end of the season and if not promoted resign or the board should not offer him a new contract ..simple as that really.
February 19, 2024 at 10:05 am #281329Clunan makes Justin Walker look like one of the most incisive passers we’ve ever had!

I don’t necessarily disagree with this and I don’t rate or particularly like Dean but we have to recognise that what Tamworth are doing is beyond freakish. They’re currently on course for 100 points, which is ridiculous. We’re on course for around 82, which in most recent seasons in this league would be a solid second place and often even enough to win the league.
Of course he should be doing better, but sometimes your opponents are just too good. Must be how clubs like Bristol City felt when we were ripping up League 1 in 2007.
February 19, 2024 at 10:33 am #281335I think Clunan sets and wreck our tempo in everything he does. His total game is sideways passing and any forward movement gets ignored , I’ve seen him try a shot and it went 90deg to the goal from 8 yards out FFS.Dean puts him in,makes him captain so it’s his game plan.
Sacking Dean now might save some embarrassing headlines if we manage to get in the playoffs and win by some flukeFebruary 19, 2024 at 10:46 am #281338The ultimate aim this season is promotion, that can’t be denied.
Do the board gamble and keep him in place?
With his lack of tactical awareness and lack of a plan B, refusal to drop what he considers to be his starting 11 I don’t see promotion, carry on like we are and we could easily slip out of the play off places.
Can the board afford to replace him?
Only the board members are privy to that information and ultimately it’s their call.
He is contracted to the end of this season and asked for an extension, regardless of where we are playing next season, IMO the club shouldn’t take up his request of an extension.February 19, 2024 at 10:58 am #281341IMHO, Clunan is nothing like the player he was in the first few months of the season.
In that period, incisive passing was probably the main part of his function on the pitch.
Today, he is not really attempting to do this – and on the few occasions he does – passes are generally not finding their target.
This can also be viewed as a rather different problem for which he is not to blame.
Off the ball movement is nowhere what it was at the start of the season. Simple fact.
I have wondered whether this may have been hidden from view for a while because of what Smith was doing for us.
Another question is begged when we consider the midfield goals contribution from Clunan and Scales. Derisory!1 user thanked author for this post.
February 19, 2024 at 11:43 am #281345I just think that a sustained stay in this division will be detrimental to the long term standing of the club. We would survive as a part time NLN club but crowds will dwindle and the quality and entertainment will be considerably sub standard. I can’t say there is any appeal in watching dross week after week, it’s really poor quality stuff, how anybody is entertained by some of this stuff is beyond me.
The quality of officiating is beyond abysmal. There is a balance between spending and sustainability as there is with every club but our natural level should be league two, I just fear a couple more years in NLN and our natural level will be NLN and that would only appeal to a hardcore group of fans. This season is a novelty for most (away support) but 3 years of Banbury away and we’ll barely fill
a bus load.February 19, 2024 at 12:53 pm #281350Quite agree, the board have asked for the fans support and the fans have delivered. Some going above and beyond in their efforts to help. The players and management are failing in their duty, yes DUTY, to make that as easy as possible by providing entertainment and value in return. Jimmy stresses his appreciation for the support, admits the performance wasn’t good enough and says he’ll work on what we need to do better. Next match we get the same thing again and again and again. Nice words – no action!! Somebody cleverer than me will know who said “the definition of insanity:- doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result” Jimmy must be told!!
February 19, 2024 at 1:08 pm #281352We’ve got South Shields tomorrow and we’re playing exactly the same brand of football as we were then, new regimes new managers new players rinse and repeat nothing changes.
February 19, 2024 at 1:30 pm #281355Well the way we’re playing will not see us promoted it’s as simple as that. Smart teams have worked us out and they need do no more because we have no plan B. So we either stick to what we’re doing and hope it comes good and hope teams forget how to counteract our plan A. The brand of football is bland at best. If you want to put a positive spin on it – a slip down the table to 4/5th means significant extra revenue for more games in playoffs! That’s assuming we get in the playoffs
