Sorry enough is enough now, he needs to go. I agree with the things he was saying post match but he’s living in an alternate reality this fella. Moans that the team haven’t been scoring and yet plays a negative formation and flatly refuses to play two up top despite us needing to score.
Please make sense of this man because I can’t, he defies logic. Again today we needed the win so he takes Bennett off and replaces him with Elliot, despite Elliot not being a lone striker and never will be.
Too negative and tactically woeful. If any team throughout this country has a manager who’s this reluctant to set his team up to win in times like these then there’s no hope. I’m sorry but this is a regular occurrence with Dean it’s happening game in game out.
Harsh reality is that it’s gotten worse ever since Dean came in to replace Nelson.
Any team having a manager who’s managing the way he’s managing is completely unacceptable. In my opinion he won’t learn either, he knows the situation we’re in and knew we needed to go for it but time and time again it’s the same negative mindset, same shite formation and same like for like substitutes, it’s not good enough.
Give him till end of the season out of pity and then reinstate Nelson. Nelson is no certainty to bring success and it took him time to adapt but look what he did with what he had compared to what Dean is doing now.
Dean is a million miles away. People will argue the fact he needs his players in but he can’t even manage the one’s he has now in a proper fashion. Dean goes on the radio and sings Shrimpton’s and Pugh’s praises about their passion and their willingness to everything for the club and yet dumps them first chance he get’s after they were starting to form a really good partnership, we’d just won 4-1 with those two playing brilliantly.
How the hell are players going to trust him when he’s saying one thing and seemingly doing another ?. Then you have Elliot who’s the only striker with any track record or scoring who notched 6 in 8 at Gateshead and yet doesn’t really play him. York commentators thought our manager had a screw loose for not starting him.
I dread to think what the hell he’s going to be like with a blank canvas of players. Bennett is the profile of striker he was after and clearly rates him higher then Elliot so that tells you all you need to know.
My thoughts about Dean aren’t a knee jerk reaction either as his managerial deficiencies are rearing their head game in game out, it’s as plain as day that he just isn’t good enough. Dean’s approach to this relegation battle has been a disgrace.
Dean has one way of playing, direct bullshit to a big isolated target man and feed off the scraps which is unacceptable in the situation we’re in.
I know this will ruffle the feathers of a few of you but this post wasn’t intended to antagonize anybody, it’s just how I feel about Dean’s tenure. I think the chairman is to blame as well for his decision making because he’s hardly brought a sound plan to the table either.
Why he didn’t give Nelson another game or two to see the progression is beyond me. Obviously had his plan in my mind and it’s spectacularly backfired.
I read a comment which went something like “we’ve got a new chairman and manager from non league and it shows” which just about sums this up. I know he’s saved the club but my god as he made a balls up along with Dean.
Granted this is a long rant but needed to let some of this out.

April 1, 2023 at 9:36 pm #258470His post-match interview was pathetic. I am sure some of it was true, but as manager he holds the buck. We saw great success with Adkins’ man management, no matter the result. Can you imagine him throwing the players under the bus like Dean has done? No, and I don’t think the entirety is the fault of the players; it’s Dean with the clueless tactics and awful substitutions.

April 1, 2023 at 9:45 pm #258473Let’s hope he returns to his part time role in Peterborough
April 1, 2023 at 9:50 pm #258475You can’t surely have a go at your own players and pin all the blame on them for not scoring when you’re choosing to field a formation with an isolated target man upfront who isn’t very good and choose to not really use a striker who hit 6 in 8 games at the previous club ?
No excuses. Dean is more to blame as he’s as negative as any manager we’ve had and he’s picking the team. Look, we’ve seen this all too often now he flatly refuses to change shape and brings a striker on for a striker even though we all know Elliot isn’t a target man, he never will be.
Dean needs to look in the mirror and take a brunt of the responsibility as he’s clearly not using what he’s got correctly. Throw into the mix he’s dumped Shrimpton and Pugh out who started to look really good and built up a good partnership for two players who aren’t home grown and won’t care about the club as much and more importantly aren’t even match fit.
There have been that many tactical faux pars from Dean that I daren’t sit down and list them all, I’d be still writing until the early hours. A lot of what he said was true about the slide we’ve been on but since he’s been here on the whole it’s gotten worse since he came in to replace Nelson and his negative attitude and woeful tactical decisions have been glaring obvious for quite a while.

April 1, 2023 at 10:37 pm #258489Hi, new here but I often look in to see people’s view on whatever shite we are dealing with. Inspired by “Patrick” showing how easy it is to register, I registered.
WonderGoals post is exactly my thoughts. I was at the Halifax game and was relieved to hear about the takeover, following that I was optimistic that Nelson was the guy to keep us up. The Nelson radio Humberside interview where the Dean bombshell was dropped was a massive alarm bell. I’ve given unconditional support since then (what else can you do mired in the bottom four and saved from financial disaster at the 11th hour ?) despite feeling the whole thing is amateurish. Well, we’re down now, just waiting for the maths to catch up with the reality so I need to say WonderGoals is spot on Dean has to go.3 users thanked author for this post.

But apparently too difficult technically, due to his age (so he said) for him to tap a request to join the Scunny Fans Facebook group, which he’d obviously looked at as he remarked on how toxic it is on there. Regarding Dean staying or going; all feels a bit futile. Don’t think he’s going anywhere.

April 2, 2023 at 1:22 am #258502I don’t think he’s going anywhere, he need to though. I saw Hilton’s responses to fans questioning Dean a couples of weeks back and to say he was overly defensive is an understatement.
In so many words he said fans were unreasonable and gave various reasons why the teams form wasn’t great. Also threw into the mix all the promotions Dean’s had at his previous club, which still doesn’t cover up the fact that he’s not utilizing the squad properly, he’s far too negative and tactically inept.
No doubt us fans will get the blame for being too harsh on Dean and he’ll most likely get a complete blank canvas next season to allow him to play this one upfront bullshit with a shite target man.
Baring in mind 8 out of the 11 players fielded today are Deans players and the profile of striker he always said he wanted to come here from the day he arrived here is Bennett so make of that what you will !

April 2, 2023 at 7:32 am #258512Dean, and the team have had good support at the actual games. To be honest the atmosphere at GP has been fantastic and the away games I’ve been to have had a brilliant following with positive support to the very end. It’s just obvious that this is a level too far. I didn’t expect us to beat Notts (although Dagenham did…) but they completely took us apart and barely worked up a sweat. I just can’t believe they have whimpered out against York and Torquay, they were 2 games to properly go for it and if we lost at least go out fighting. 1 point was no longer enough.

April 2, 2023 at 3:43 pm #258594Don’t often subscribe to Rene’s ramblings, but as I said on another thread, Dean is a non league manager. And not even proven at NLP & NLN level.
To expect him to come in and turn five years of failings around in less than half a season was a ridiculous ask. Hilton appointed him poste haste after taking over, and in hindsight that looks like folly.
Hilton himself has no previous experience of L2/NL club ownership, so perhaps it shouldn’t come as any real surprise.
I guess it’s rather like expecting your local garage to service a Typhoon Fighter.
Out of their depth, and insufficient time to learn!

Bennett is injured so carver will have to come in. I don’t think it’s exactly a downgrade though in all fairness as they’re both crap.

April 7, 2023 at 8:07 am #259192Said at the time hoped Nelson got the job until end of season but understood owners choice.
Now I do not understand why he is still there. How many players has he had the opportunity to use ! Still can’t settle a formation which should be 442. His pre and post interviews are so predictable and quite frankly boring.

April 8, 2023 at 7:36 am #259360I’m prepared to be shot down here and it’s obvious to see Dean has made mistakes, and rather annoyingly continues to do so. For the love of god Jimmy, quit this one up top shite. But to pin all the ills on Dean seems a bit simplistic no?? Some of these players go back to Cox’s era so will have played under 5 different manager’s including caretaker’s etc. How many of the current squad would we lose any sleep over if they were gone tomorrow? To say some have been stealing a living is unfortunately not a massive understatement. If multiple managers can’t get a tune out of the players then maybe just maybe the players themselves should be taking as much flak as Dean is currently. I’m sure I’ve heard of a thing called professional pride.
I have no great conviction that Dean is the answer but it’s clear in my mind he’s not the only problem.2 users thanked author for this post.

A charabanc of shite wearing ‘kiss me quick’ hats and kissing an (I’m shite) badge hasn’t worked.
I said this some time ago, after the first 3 or 5 games – player power.
If they don’t like the manager, for whatever reason, and let’s not forget, that someone raised the bullying issue (?) – then they won’t try / play for you.
Leopards don’t change their spots, Scousers don’t change their shell suits.
It’ll be the same next season.April 8, 2023 at 8:38 am #259364Has to go. Admits that some of the players have quit and don’t care and that is why we lose yet picks the same group the following game ! Don’t pick them ! Put U18s or U16s even U15s in.
Or shame the non triers in a game. Even if you lose players to injury if there are 3 players visibly not interested sub them all at once not matter when in a match ! Earlier the better of course.
But Mr Dean is letting whoever get away with it while the fans suffer.

April 8, 2023 at 8:42 am #259365This isn’t actually Dean’s fault. Hilton gambled on appointing him and he had to take the opportunity. Apologies if this podcast has been linked before but it is an interview with Dean in August 2022. He comes across as an honest guy who is very realistic about football at non league level and managing to get a team the size of Peterborough Sports promoted to NLN.
By his own admission he was looking at survival being a success this season for Sports, and mid table being a good success. He admits that he didn’t know National League North level enough yet. Half a season later he’s Scunthorpe United manager in the league above that. I won’t criticise him any more, in my opinion he needed to finish the season at Peterborough and then move to a bigger NLN or NLS club and get some more experience. Far too many players have been changed too far into the season for any chance of being a team, you can see they don’t know enough about each other on the pitch. He’s been thrown into a situation and it isn’t working out and that is Hilton’s mistake not Deans.
Link to the podcast, sorry again if it’s old news I’m not trawling 3 months of Bru to check !https://shows.acast.com/62fcfc183e14f50012189fb1/episodes/62fcfc1c09158d0012010539

April 8, 2023 at 9:36 am #259379It’s still early days for Dean, that’s true, but he’s showing no signs of learning anything and that’s the problem. He has decided how he wants to play and the fact that it isn’t working is completely lost on him. The fans (even the oppositon ones) know it and the players know it and have reacted accordingly. Professional pride clearly sadly lacking in The Iron squad.
Remind me again of that definition of insanity Rene.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 8, 2023 at 9:47 am #259383He’s had plenty of experience in in the national leagues no L plate needed, Now were would we have been if we hadn’t given Adkins his chance. What did Hills experience bring us absolutely nothing.
April 8, 2023 at 10:03 am #259385Have a listen to that interview, he doesn’t have hardly any experience of NLN and not much of the leagues below. It’s a bigger leap than if Adkins had gone straight to a premier league side. Adkins had also had a career of being a league player, manager at Bangor, working alongside decent managers and coaches when he was physio and had coaching qualifications.
