Match thread
September 19, 2020 at 11:05 am #194837The silence is deafening!
Do we all expect a drubbing?
September 19, 2020 at 11:19 am #194838I went to the Crawley away match last season. They were sh1te and we were considerably worse.
I am expecting a lot more effort from our team this time. Any better result will be a bonus.
September 19, 2020 at 11:45 am #194839just hopeful we get something, it’s a long while since we won a league game.
September 19, 2020 at 1:56 pm #194843Three matches in & the pre-season optimism has completely evaporated.
We have an inexperienced, unbalanced squad with no spine down the middle.
Keeper, shambles; cb’s poor; cm weak & unimaginative. Only Loft looks capable, but he lacks a partner.
Bring on the 2-0 win today!
To be entertained would be an improvement!
September 19, 2020 at 2:39 pm #194844Abo benched and Coco not in squad. On their way out?

Topics: 4How long do we persist with Hornshaw as right back? Other than that not terrible so far, but a bit toothless up front. Loft’s donkeyish.
September 19, 2020 at 3:58 pm #194848Agree have said it before,we need a pair of proper full backs,Hornshaw was woeful in that first half,and Gillead needs to be wide left where he can do more damage,hope for a better second half????
September 19, 2020 at 4:10 pm #194849Least we got a natural left back on now and can go 4 4 2 instead of whatever that formation was ment to be the first half trying to accommodate 3 centre backs
September 19, 2020 at 4:17 pm #194850If we can’t get at least a point against this dog shit then we are in trouble
September 19, 2020 at 4:32 pm #194851Absolutely clueless in the final 3rd
For such a big team we are offering very little from set pieces in particular corners

Topics: 4Well it shouldn’t take much for van Veen and McAtee do get Loft out of the team if that’s his standard performance.
September 19, 2020 at 4:59 pm #194854Turan was absolutely turd!!!
September 19, 2020 at 5:02 pm #194855Crawley looked woeful,and for all our huffing and puffing,and loads of possession we never looked to have s cutting edge, thought Crawley just surrendered in the second half,3 points there for the taking,a missed chance against a poor side

Both our forwards were. The only player with anything about him today was Gillead, especially in the first half.
September 19, 2020 at 5:07 pm #194858Gillead caused problems second half when out wide, if Eisa played wide left we Would have some potential for getting some crosses into the box.
September 19, 2020 at 5:18 pm #194860Watson = 6
nothing to do, one good save but straight at him TBF, made it look good.
Hornshaw = 5
We need to sign a decent RB.
McGahey = 6
Didn’t do much wrong could have been a seven.
Cordner = 7
like the look of him, good on the ball but not troubled today.
Bedeau = 7
one of his best performances, exciting bringing the ball out of deference.
Gilliead = 6
Good in possession, got us up the pitch but end product missing.
Vincent = 7
Good Performance, him and spence were solid in the middle of the park today.
Spence = 7
As above
Hippolyte = 7
Some good touches, corners too close to the keeper for my liking, deserved a goal .
Loft 5
Should have scored when presented with an open goal , didn’t have any service but didn’t look like he was at it.
Turan = 2
absolutely awfulEisa = 6
looked threatening when he came on but not enough time to change anything
O’Malley = 6
Couple of promising bursts forward but picked the wrong pass too often, not much to do defensively.
Hallam = 5
Got 10 minutes not sure what he offeredRef = 6
we should have had a penalty, thought other than that he was okCox = 5
Just not sure on his formation and in game management, Crawley were there for the taking but we just went through the motions for the full 90+ minutes.September 19, 2020 at 5:24 pm #194861Again we took nothing from playing a very poor team in Crawley, in fact we had ONE SHOT on target in the 95 minutes, and that was a long range effort straight at their keeper, (that was the only shot he had at him, Watson had TWO SHOTS on target during the whole match, but wait a minute, Cox said we were going to play attacking football), when will this start????
Vincent, Loft, Hornshaw, and the German where all shite, you will never make a team out of that lot.
The only good thing in the match was my 7 points in the Prediction League, I had 2-0.
I would think that our supporters will be hoping for an extention on the no fans allowed situation, at least we only waste 2 hours with IFoller and not half a day. Where are McAtee and Coulclough £££
No player rating marks today, just put 5 against all eleven of them.
September 19, 2020 at 5:34 pm #194862Big step backwards today from the last couple of games.
Loft looked a different player and couldn’t control the ball to save his life. Not sure what Turan offers that’s different to Loft they don’t look like a pair that will fit.
Better from Bedeau and O’Malley looks decent.
Gillead a better day but still out of position first half.
Hopefully we’ve learned that 4-4-2 is the way.
Not good though I could’ve rounded up 10 mates and beaten that Crawley team. Failing to win against teams as piss poor as that is very concerning.
September 19, 2020 at 5:46 pm #194864Can’t disagree with most of the comments above.
The formation we started with needs binning off. Keep it simple please!
Switching to 4-4-2 We looked comfortable on the ball and at least resembled something of a team. Good build play, especially starting from the back, however there nothing of note in the final third. Loft and Turan were crap today, simple passes were beyond Their capabilities. That cannot be the standard to make it into our first team.
That Crawley team were there for the taking today and we have come up well short.
September 19, 2020 at 5:49 pm #194866Similar comments from 2 nd game a year ago at Cheltenham.
September 19, 2020 at 6:01 pm #194868I thought our general play was OK, but we wouldn’t have scored if we were playing now, Hornshaw like last week wrong side of the winger for their goal, it’s going to be a long season if we can’t make the keeper make a save and again we gifted them the goal.
Watson 6 did OK, not sure if he could have Don anything about the goal
Hornshaw 5 not the best full back, better going forwards
McGahey 7 did OK, injured
Cordner 7 played well
Bedeau 7 better than last week
Vincent 6 average performance
Spence 6 average performance
Loft 5 should have done better early on with a header
Turan 5 some nice touches but no threat
Gilliead 7 probably our best player
Hippolyte 7 hard luck with shot that grazed the post but was OKSubs.
O’Malley 7 did well
Eisa 5 not at his best, needs to be wide
Hallam 5 wasn’t on long enough to make improvementRef 7 couldn’t argue with his performance
Cox 5 still probably struggling with getting his best team out, where is Colclough.
September 19, 2020 at 6:04 pm #194869We are extremely poor, but on a positive note, looks like that lot down the road are even worse!
Maybe they need a new keeper; wonder if they fancy Watson!
September 19, 2020 at 6:06 pm #194870When van veen and mcatee return and we don’t win matches we are ,in real trouble,that’s if Cox plays them ???
September 19, 2020 at 6:41 pm #194872McAtee at RB and KVV in CM?
September 19, 2020 at 8:11 pm #194876Another opposition keeper that didn’t have to make a single save.
Another sloppy goal due to a Hornshaw mistake.
Some decent enough build up but the final ball was absolutely shocking.
Gilliead was the best player on the pitch.
OMalley really promising – but really should have scored.
Loft was poor. Looked tired.
Contrary to some of the above posts, I actually thought Turan looked quite promising, particularly in the first half.
Thought Nige got his summary spot on.September 19, 2020 at 8:16 pm #194878I thought Turan looked pretty promising as well. I’m shocked people are giving him a 2 and Loft a 5. Loft looked like things we’re not going for him and just mentally wasn’t at the races….he was shocking to say the least.
SST, what did you think of that formation ?
Also the fact Green was left on the bench and Hallam was brought on to partner Turan ?
Actually, how the hell did Loft even get as long as he did ?
September 19, 2020 at 8:34 pm #194881Hornshaw 5 not the best full back, better going forwards
Mick…How can you possibly give Hornshaw and Turan both a 5 ?. I’d give Hornshaw a 3, he was absolutely dreadful. I do however feel a bit sorry for him, you can tell he’s never going to be a FB.
What about sticking Hornshaw in CM in place of Spence ?.
Spence and Vincent are sort of tidy enough but don’t effect the game enough for me…both him and Spence just like to sit there and keep it ticking over, neither effect the play enough.
The pair of them are similar. If we opt to keep playing Vincent, what about getting Beestin up to speed and give him a go alongside him, least he’d get forward a bit more.
September 19, 2020 at 8:42 pm #194882Difficult to lay into Hornshaw when he’s only being used a makeshift right back.
If push comes to shove next week I’d be looking at playing Mcghaey at right back and O’Malley Left back.
September 19, 2020 at 8:45 pm #194883I don’t agree about Spence I like him a lot. Not flashy, simple balls but just in the right place at the right time.
