Wondergoals——I didn’t suggest that you thought that Hippo was a world beater, although if you have attended games this season, you have every right to have a better view of things than myself, simply because I just cannot be arsed to go and watch such boring shite, all I can go by are either i-follower viewing or Humberside radio.
But after just watching the Swann pod-cast, what little bit of paith I had in things getting better has been shattered by Swanns back that clown Cox, no matter how nice a man he is, he simply is never going to make a football league manager. But Swann has different views it appears.
October 4, 2021 at 12:46 am #214689I’m sure he outlined another 5 matches but let’s face it, what the hell is he going to do in another 5 matches which he hasn’t done in the last 50 odd ?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Scunthorpe team so lacking in direction….no structure, no patterns of play and very little cohesion.
We do the same all the time. Huff and puff, run around a lot without usually creating much, come out second half and play half as good as we played the 1st half and let in 2 or 3 goals due to slack marking and positional play.
Honestly, it’s like groundhog day. Cox clearly can’t get through which he wants to the players and he’s had 2 squads to get his point across and for the most part has failed on both occasions.
Cox told the players 2nd half against Newport to pass through midfield and build the play and he said they just kept playing it long so he’s telling them and they’re clearly not listening so clearly they’ve lost faith in him.
As I said above, this has happened to 2 squads of players now and he’s the common denominator. I can’t understand Swann giving him another 5 games, I’d get shut now and move on.
When Swann said he thinks we could/should have had 7 more points I nearly turned it off. Seriously, what the hell is this bloke on about ?
What’s he been doing ?…anything Scunthorpe United related, I’m pretty sure he’s been wearing earplugs and covering his eyes because to think that….Jesus Christ.
That’s denial at it’s finest. I shouldn’t really be too surprised though thinking about it, as this is the bloke who fancied himself as a footballing man along with other plonkers and signed Turan and Jarvis to 2yr contracts despite there being no manager at the club.
Have you seen Turan’s record ?. I doubt Stevie Wonder would have sanctioned that transfer lol

A will cox and a can’t Cox led by a complete Cock.
Two many Cocks spoil the broth.

October 9, 2021 at 3:38 pm #2151384-0 down at Harrogate after 30 mins.
Its gone from embarrassing to heartbreaking 46 years plus of support and this is the lowest point ever!
Got to go NOW! . He shouldn’t even be allowed to manage the second half.

Cox cannot and must not survive this horror.3 users thanked author for this post.

October 9, 2021 at 5:24 pm #215159Newey and Cooper suggested that finding a manager might be a problem.
This is not so. There are scores of experienced managers who think that they’ll never get back into the league and will take us on as a longshot to resurrect their career.
If you were ever get to see the list of applicants you would gasp at the number of well-known names – desperate to get back into football.
We need someone who is intolerant to lackadaisical effort and who will gladly put juniors in when more senior players do not deliver.Yet again, we have to look at the dismal quality of loan players on show.
None of them is worth a place. I warned pre-season about the dangers of continuing with this failed policy. The real problem is centre midfield where we are hopelessly inadequate. They are so bad, the defence is wrongfooted far too often. The same inept CM means that we do not construct decent forward moves.
Green allowing that cross to be made showed a couldn’t-care-less attitude which has to be expunged.
If Cox goes and a new manager can’t turn it around – there will be only one person left who’ll be 100% at fault – and who will then not be able to argue otherwise or try to divert blame.
Anyone want to guess the next home attendance, BTW?

Sadly les you have not highlighted the one vital quality any Iron manager must have. Yes sir.

October 9, 2021 at 6:23 pm #215176He won’t be removed for at least another 9 games, the top mans plans are working to well for that. Oh and spite .. probably just about the right word if you ask me

October 9, 2021 at 7:44 pm #215186October 9, 2021 at 10:47 pm #215231A manager without a job maybe.
October 10, 2021 at 10:14 am #215260Yes, Alcy.
Sounds roughly right. 700 from the league leaders and 1,647 diehards.
FG were the best team I saw last season and seem to have improved.October 11, 2021 at 9:52 am #215320Les, do Forest Green have 700 fans? Could be quite a bit less than that I reckon.

October 11, 2021 at 10:18 am #215323FGR wont bring more than 150 fans they just don’t have the support like other clubs do. Attendance on Saturday if no change in manager will be I think under 2,000

October 11, 2021 at 2:15 pm #215334Keith Hill and Ronnie Moore are without jobs and Keith Hill in particular is well know for getting the best out of solid if unspectacular players. Hill’s teams don’t play silky football but least they’re hard to beat.
That’s what we need at the minute, as currently we’re boring and as soft as shite to play against.

October 20, 2021 at 6:30 pm #216177A poor display away at Barrow with a second half capitulation, virtually every player less the home side goalkeeper in the Iron box when Barrow equalised.
Robbie Gotts and Ollie Banks took the mickey and were not closed down all the second half. The statistics say we had possession for only 19.5% of the game making 167 passes with a 46 % accuracy, Barrow meanwhile made 691 passes 87 % accurate in their 81 % possession.
You cannot win games without the ball. If the squad is good enough as Ernest believes it wont be with this manager.
Cox has to go NOW…………….

October 21, 2021 at 2:13 am #216205Who would want to manage SUFC with Swann in charge????
Exactly .. i cant name a single half decent AVAILABLE experienced manager that would want to come to Scunny .. with or without Swann ..though i suspect without it may be easier to find the right man.
October 21, 2021 at 11:30 am #216211Are We waiting for Grant and Cliff to become available. With their payoff they may work for peanuts to earn a contract by keeping us up.

If the squads good enough as Swann says to keep us in the football league then Cox has to go now, otherwise both SWANN AND COX NEED TO GO.
October 21, 2021 at 1:30 pm #216228October 21, 2021 at 2:36 pm #216233Impressively poor stats. Our passing was bad last year and seems to have got worse.
Absolutely – but most of those “passes” weren’t passes. They were clearances. Aimless hoofs into space. There was hardly any attempt to keep the ball or to try to build an attack. We completely surrendered possession whenever we got it. The only thing I can compare it to is that famous Barcelona v. Inter Milan game when Inter put 11 (then 10) men behind the ball for 90 minutes to get through to the final. But that was quite a good Inter side!
October 22, 2021 at 3:14 am #216265I would love to be proved wrong but past history shows Swann has been very quick to sack .. something has changed where now he is so reluctant to give Cox n Lillis the boot when they are so clearly inept at all aspects of football management .. for sure the longer Swann for whatever reason doesnt sack them it will come to the point its just too late who ever comes in post Cox Lillis.. the damage will be done and beyond repair if its left much longer .. a win at home on Saturday against Crawley would certainly keep them at the helm longer .. silly but would another home defeat this weekend be enough for then to be dismissed ??? i doubt it .
Kieth Hill isnt a manager im familiar with need to read up on him and his past positions etc.

October 22, 2021 at 12:17 pm #216274I wonder if Swann is attempting to show potential managers that he HAS changed his approach, i.e. away from hire and fire in order to help him recruit someone new. Let’s face it, nobody — including a potential applicant for the job — could accuse Swann of not giving Cox every possible chance to turn things round. The squad isn’t great but good enough for a decent manager to get us out of this mess.
For all Swann’s faults I simply cannot believe he’d be happy for us to be relegated from the EFL. Unless a miracle takes place and Cox somehow manages to put a decent run together I think Cox will be sacked in the next few weeks.
Swann might also be lining someone up in the background. Again, I don’t think anyone could really blame him for doing so given the current circumstances. If Cox does go, which he surely must, a new manager needs to be installed and up and running very quickly.
October 22, 2021 at 4:31 pm #216292If we lose on Saturday that will be ONE win in 27 games of football. An absolutely ridiculous stat that would surely mean the trigger being pulled??
October 22, 2021 at 5:04 pm #216294Just been reminiscing and looking on the old site, so many reminders of the good times and also wasn’t swamped with adverts and was lightenimg speed.
I was trying to find who it was that was always banging on about Keith Hill and how we should have him as manager, anyone going to own up, you might still get your wish?1 user thanked author for this post.
