Interesting to hear Swann talking about Adkins and having his phone number on his phone, get it bloody dialled man!!!

Maybe he is trying to get the odds higher so his mates can all get a good price on Hill. Sky Bet are running a book on it!

Personally I’ve always liked a nice twat.

There was one on Humberside tonight pushing blame onto Iron fans for lack of attendance, not sure about the ” nice ” part of your post through.

Ultimately, he was clearly out of depth. The budget constraints are a large mitigating factor, but that doesn’t excuse : Baffling interviews, tactical incompetence and poor man management; I don’t think he knew how to get a tune out of the modern day footballer, a bollocking on Humberside only works once in a blue moon. The negativity – especially in leading positions – cost us valuable points at Carlisle, Barrow and Sutton, the blame there for me has to lie with Cox.

Don’t wish any ill towards him and perhaps he will make a decent go of it as an assistant somewhere. Just the wrong bloke at the wrong time here.

Remember how excited we all (most) were with the appointment of the Cox/Lillis dream team? A local boy and an imported club legend with passion. (I’ll never forget the SWansea play-off) Where did it all go wrong?

Thought Peter was very coy when asked about Adkins and even seemed to put his foot in it at one point. I would have to listen back to it but he did seem to state that it would be unfair on “the other” applicants when asked directly if Nigel had applied.

You’d strongly suspect that Nigel has already been contacted. If by same miracle he does throw his hat into the ring then the job is surely his. Very big if though.

For me, he’d be a fool to come back here.
He has nothing to prove to us.
But failure here…and does ANYONE really think that any manager could make anything of the dog’s breakfast Swann has created at this club, failure here will surely tarnish his legacy.
    Stay away Nige.
You DO NOT want to work for this idiot.

Maybe so but apart from him and Keith Hill we may as well give up and just accept our non league fate.

There is a risk it could horribly backfire on Adkins but we need some divine inspiration and if he can supply it, we have to try.

Not sure I’d be jumping at the opportunity if I were in his shoes either. Far too much to lose and not a lot to gain. Although if he manages to keep this side up it’d arguably be a bigger feat than the L1 title winning season.

Just listened again to the RH interview. “He’s not the only applicant and I think it’s unfair on the other applicants” was an interesting choice of words IMO.

Swann must surely be desperate for this to happen. It pretty much guarantees the required extra numbers on the gates.

Nice house in Hampshire, why on earth would Nigel come back, especially when the average managerial life expectancy is about twelve months.

Anyone with any credibility won’t take the job without the promise of serious money to spend in January – which will also mean paying the loan off.

It would be a remarkable sea change for Swann to suddenly reverse tactics which he has employed over the last 3 years and suddenly start spending big again.

As for Cox – I have little sympathy for him because he knew what he was letting himself in for when he came.

That said, he can’t be blamed for our league position.

If the players aren’t good enough as a whole then it doesn’t matter if you have a tactical and motivational genius in charge – you still have a sub standard side.

Any argument that it’s ‘Cox’s side’ is rubbish as well.

It’s a side assembled on the cheap, laughably no doubt with input from our ‘chief scout’.

Cox has played the cards Swann has dealt him – full stop. Whether he played them badly is irrelevant – it was a crap hand and he simply couldn’t win.

Cox had enough chances – he was woefully woefully short of anything near competent – even his interviews, whilst refreshing (!) were just soundbites because he lacked the basic football intelligence to talk in more depth about things, my lads….. channels….. pass and move….. trained well… tired legs/leggy. It was all bollocks in the end – he just couldn’t do the job.

And I’m not absolving Swann of the shitshow we find ourselves in. Its just another bad choice from somebody equally lost in football

Today has been a refreshing move by the club by getting rid of Cox and Lillis, neither of them have shown that they have the slightest clue on football management, they might be NICE MEN as many keep saying, but in their time here they have taken the club into new depths. Many supporters will never return after the past 3 seasons of unenjoyable and so boring so called football , but for sure a few hundred will be back to see if things change, if they don’t change it will be the end of league football. How the hell does Mussa keep surviving ???????.

Swann has one more chance to get things right, and I hope that he goes through applicants, and even takes a bit of advice, and keeps away from ex-Scunthorpe Utd connections.

I hope this is a turning point for the club, a good move in getting rid of these two, but sadly it should have been taken last January, when it was so clear that it would never work, and we have fallen fast since then, to the present time of being bottom of the League, and gates down to 2,100. Saturday would be a good time for a win, it would be some change to progress in the FA Cup, or any Cup for that matter, and at home to Donny who have lost all of their seven away matches to date, a real chance for us, so go for it.

Love Nigel for what he did for us! But a little word of warning he has been sacked from 5 of his last 6 jobs so things have not been great for him at certain clubs.

But if he did come back I will fully support him and he would add at least a 500/1000 to the crowd meaning better sales helping the club not just the players with his positive attitude.

    Well, maybe.
But if you are aware that your opponents ALSO have a crap hand, and you still insist on folding… whose fault is that?
When I played three card brag at John Leggott so many years ago, I won a fair few crap hands by bluffing.

Let’s also remember that Nigel took over a good squad of players when Laws moved on but he did put his stamp on them and I believe got them playing better football then under Laws. Let’s also remember that to compare this squad against Sharp, Keogh, Barraclough, Crosby, Byrne, Murphy…….need I say more…..would be insane. Whoever comes in has a massive job but surely be has to be an experienced campaigner who get get this squad playing in a more structured way, I believe the current squad if they can keep fit would improve a hell of a lot under proper experienced leadership but it must happen NOW.

Swann brought back KvV from Northampton in a popularist move, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he tried the same thing again.

It would boost the gates and buy him some time. But any appointment will be a gamble given where we are.

And what of the players? From what I’ve seen this season some just simply aren’t good enough. I doubt if Sir Nigel himself can turn a cart horse into a thoroughbred!

To be honest, at this stage I wouldn’t mind a move that would give fans something to cling to, something to get excited about, because it’s been so long since anything like that happened around GP. I can’t see even Adkins turning the situation around but at least it could make for a more exciting ride.

I think it was Mike White, he said had he been in contact with Nigel Adkins, offering him the job. Peter Swann said no as it would be unfair on those who have applied, now if he applied that would be different.

The answer is not all that logical, really – especially when the job has not been advertised.

I’m sure there have been plenty of applicants, regardless of whether there’s an ad in the classifieds or not.
