So Taft, Feeney, Perry & Millen are still all under contract but have been nowhere to be seen – Feeney aside – for weeks? So why haven’t they been being played when fit? I find it completely baffling.

I’m surprised Pugh has been released, I think he would have been a handy and moderatly more experienced addition in the Conference. I hope Thompson can find himself another club when he’s fit, I feel a bit uneasy about releasing players when they’re seriously injured but I guess we don’t really have any choice.

I believe Taft and Millen are injured. Also, if they refuse to have their contracts torn up, in a way KDT did, we haven’t got much choice. :-)

Do people still not understand how contracts work? It’s not possible to just release someone without both parties agreeing.

Pugh is injured and apart from running around doesn’t really offer a lot.

Why should he agree to have his contract torn up? No one forced him to sign it, he’s entitled to his income if he’s not in breach of his contract.

Sure, do you not understand that we have finite resources and that we should be making full use of all the players at our disposal rather than paying them NOT to play?

Where did I say he should have agreed to have the contract torn up? :-) It’s not his fault the club offered him a long contract. Contracts shouldn’t be able to be torn up like that without a care.

It may be that some of these players are deemed not good enough or possessing attitude problems, so Hill doesn’t play them, but we can’t do anything about the contracts.

Fair enough if that wasn’t your intention but I’d say the word “refuse” is quite a loaded term in this situation, making it look like the problem lies with the player.

Err, could it be because Hill didn’t sign them, Cox did?

Added to any injury issues – Hill has clearly wanted to discourage players he doesn’t want from staying.
Probably thinks that anyone with any sense of pride would not want to stay if never in the squad.

After three or four games – Millen was starting to look decent – then injured again. Sigh!

Hopefully Lewis will be ok. He’s going to be out for a large part of next season. To be honest it’s not a great situation to be in.

Surely you should be working with the tools available to you though? Especially given as we famously didn’t have any money to sign new players without selling others.

Indeed you should. But when did that last happen at Scunthorpe United?

Also got a recent history of players signed under a previous manager not performing for the new one.

    John McAttee perhaps?

It’s a concerning trend given the number of managers we get through.

If they refuse to train or play or follow the rules – then like any other employees, they can be disciplined.

    Same rules apply.

It’s universal, so the PFA have no comeback – 3 strikes and your out.

But, Renee, do we enforce any discipline? We had a player suspended for 6 matches for spitting and what did we do? Forgave him, welcomed him back into the fold and selected him to play until he decided he didn’t want to any more. What a message that sends to other miscreants!!

I would assume a sacking would result in a tribunal for unfair dismissal.

Tom Pugh – was a shock. I know a different position but Nuttall gets a contract ! Besides Tom others have more bottle than Nuttall. About as stupid as giving a 2 yr deal to a continually injured player – Hallam.

And when we have a manager who did discipline players certain fans didn’t like it, a manager can’t win either way.

Nuttall was signed on an 18-month deal – certainly, he wasn’t up for renewal this summer.

Like him or not, Laws knew how to discipline players and because the players knew that, it perhaps pre-empted more of the same? Why hasn’t Hill addressed it in a way that not only punishes but restores some faith?

Don’t think Taft and Perry will be at scunny when preseason starts also not sure about Oniell, think Bunn would be worth a gamble if we can get him on a pay as you play deal.
See Joe Murphy has been released would good for young Owen Foster to have around and help him develope also Matt Done at Rochdale, going to be a very interesting 5/6 weeks! Get it wrong and we are doomed, get it right and we might just see a turn round in the clubs fortunes
