Ever wondered who works out the end of season mathematical connotations? So did I.
One more Iron win means neither Grimsby nor Southend can catch us on points.
One more Cod defeat means they cannot overtake ourselves (47pts) Colchester (47pts) or Walsall (49pts) and only equal Barrow who have a superior goal difference of +24.
That defeat would leave them unable to overtake Southend should the latter win their 3 remaining games and Grimsby win their then remaining games.
Should Barrow draw one game from 4 and Grimsby fail to win their remaining 4, Barrow cannot be caught by Grimsby but can be by Southend who would need to win all 3 remaining games and overturn a minus 25 goal difference.
A Southend defeat from their remaining 3 games leaves them unable to catch anybody above them.
Draws! Cant even be bothered ……..
Had Bolton not lost to the Cods it would have saved a lot of working out.
More novelly should the Iron win a game or 2, it too would also save a bit of maths and taxing of the noggin.
May I say ironking after reading your post, you really need to get out more mate and now Covid restrictions are being gradually lifted you have no bloody excuse, unless you are housebound of course. 😜
Southend can’t pass us unless we have a 15 goal swing in results (unlikely but not impossible) so we would need 1 more point if they win their last 3 games.
We need to get 2 more points if Grimsby win their last 4 (their goal difference is also much worse).
If either side fails to win any of their remaining names, we are safe even without winning another point this season.
Aye!
Basically we’d have to lose the last five by a cricket score for Southend to finish above us on GD, and the Cods need to win all their remaining games. If they draw or lose one we’re safe.
Iron-awe you are absolutely correct.
Apart from the old eyesight, hearing and needing the odd erectile pill there is nothing wrong (I hope).
It started out as a jibe about one more Cod defeat could make our season twice, but when I looked into it, it was more complicated.

Not entirely true. The goal difference is 16 in our favour I think. We lose our last 4 games, we’re likely to lose another 5-6 goals in goal difference. If Southend win their last 3, they’re likely to make up 5-6 goals in doing so. Suddenly, not such a wide margin.
