The trouble was the centre back stayed up after the corner and managed to hang on the back post so O’Malley was picking him up. He didn’t lose his man I don’t think he just got beaten in the air by a centre back which is always going to happen if he goes up against a full back. Whichever one of Onarise or McGahey wasn’t on Norris ideally would’ve noticed the danger and stayed on the CB until he went back.
It’s obviously something they had planned which we didn’t pick up on and it worked perfectly.
regarding the goal, it was crossed from Clarke’s side and not O’Malley’s, so seeing it was scored in the middle of the goal it was more the central defence and not the full back not covering when it wasn’t the winger coming in from wing to score, it was a well taken goal.
It was O’Malley’s man, no doubt. We lambasted Hornshaw for sloppy marking earlier in the season and it’s something that he can’t afford to become habit.
Despite that, I thought he had another good game, and the whole team for that matter. Really good tempo, put decent balls into the box but just couldn’t find that goal. We seemed to struggle aswell to create any more chance once Col went 5 at the back.
So much improvement from the start of the season though.
So you think a 5’7” full back is going to beat a 6’2” player to win a header when the big lad is running towards the ball, Mason wasn’t even a a position to get flattened.

Not at all Mick, when the ball is cross from one side, the full-back on the opposite side needs to be covering across because the centre backs have to move across too.
We have to stop the delivery, both Clarke and Gilliead should take responsibility, the passage of play leading to the goal was poor. If we stop the cross the rest is immaterial. Yes O’Malley needs to check his shoulder more, but, last night it was the right hand side that was at fault for the goal.
Well said Eandme,my thoughts exactly, stop it at source as I said earlier Gillead did not go with the runner,no blame on O’Malley from me,but still a positive performance
