After listening to Mr Cox’s post Crawley match comments on radio humberside it seems that JAI ROWE is at last getting coaching !

I think that is an insult to Russ Wilcox who managed and coached Jai when he joined the U23s. Russ did a very good job working from scratch with the new set up and I know several of those players speak very highly of Russ.

Added to that I also think that a manager with a win rate of just over 20% should not criticise a previous manager who has a win rate of 40% !!

    Bit of a weird post.

Didn’t he just say something along the lines of they’re coaching him everyday to improve & cut out mistakes?

What’s it matter what Cox says?
He’s clearly about as bright as a Toc-H lamp.

No – he said that he had had no coaching !

Plus when others had asked for extra coaching when they were being played out of position they were ignored and not helped.

If it means the current coaching team have suddenly had a light bulb moment and realised improving the ability of our squad is part of their job then it is cause for celebration.

We have seen little evidence of it over the last 15 months.

As someone who makes a living as a coach (of managers rather than footballers) then improving the capability of the people I coach is number one priority.

My point for the item was the to disregard the work of Russ Wilcox with the U23s.
He was doing a good job and even when the manager the issue was more his defensive tactics and not the players ability.

Now you have seen poor recruitment yet again. Tactics ? So questionable. Player selection that at times defies description. Fails to field a team in a settled formation which would help ‘a young inexperieced squad who show a lack of maturity’ and yet it is their fault. 352, 532, 433, 4321, 442 just a few of our resident ‘leaders’ sparkling league climbing systems !!

Not sure at our performance levels the system ever makes much difference. We do well in games when we mark men, challenge for the ball and have some kind of attacking intent.

When we retreat into 2 lines and mark space instead of players and stop challenging for the ball we gift possession, chances and usually goals. Known in modern coaching parlance (bullshit) as keeping your shape.

You could never accuse Wilcox’s teams of not marking men or challenging for the ball – the attacking intent was often missing though.

How come we allowed the newly appointed Cod messiah, McAtee, move to Grimsby for free. Surely a clear case of failure in the coaching, tactical and man management departments.

There was a fee for McAtee ( I’m a poet and I know it ) but as per normal with our lot in charge it was undisclosed.

Stand corrected and hope we have a big sell on clause. The main point is that the coaches failed to get much from him in terms of skill and effort.

It was only Hurst that got McAtee to give consistent effort. Pretty much the same with Eisa.
He was also the manager to get a good work rate out of KVV.

Remind me why we got rid of him again?

Was it not that we had a number of shite players on 2 or 3 grand a week that Hurst failed to “magic” off the wage bill.

I seem to recall a Mr P. Hurst, formerly of North Lincolnshire, was quite successful in getting him to play well.

McAtee was not consistent even under Hurst. Do we really want a return to Wilcox? Kevin was a good player on his day when fit but must have been expensive could we afford such a luxury?

“I seem to recall a Mr P. Hurst, formerly of North Lincolnshire, was quite successful in getting him to play well”.

That’s the point I’m trying to make. He has ability and this coaching team failed to do anything with him.

McAtee scored one solitary goal under Hurst…I’d say he played his best games for us under Wilcox.
